  1. I only swapped from a Ser 3 to a 4 because the 4 had Traction Control. (I'd wiggled the back end on a turn one damp night and given myself a fright!) Obviously Lexus, with their 'Kaizen' philosophy, would have gradually improved them. But I have another article somewhere comparing a Ser 1 with a Jag and a Rolls; and saying the Lexus is as good or better than the Rolls, except in aura! So even the Ser 1 is starting from a high level. It did cause a stir when it appeared! (Except in hidebound UK?)
  2. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2000-LEXUS-LS400-AUTO-GREEN-/291390083566?&_trksid=p2056016.l4276 Pics now up. Bad ones, but may just mean someone who's not too good at posting! 88K miles sounds good? Pity; I was in London last weekend!
  3. Don't 'Plip' it closed, just use key. Unless you think someone might nick it? Otherwise, cheer yourself up with the first few minutes of this clip, which features a pretty unique Isolator! (AND driver's seat!!) Every time I watch this, I want one!
  4. I sold my last Ser 4 for exactly this paranoia! And now? Am looking for another -I think - as nothing else compares (Thanks Sinead) Luxury costs-and other cars fail more often/more price-ily?
  5. Keith-empty your mailbox! AS an ex-Citroen driver, comfort is a priority for me. Though earlier post, from the actual guy who developed the DHP on the LS!-said all ('all'?) you had to do was refit original springs to revert to the 'comfort zone', so maybe........ Though having to fit unique/pricy size tyres is a drawback.
  6. May go and see it-it's only 30 miles away. Belt-check. DHP-check....... Not that fond of black leather, but......it's O.K. LPG is good. So info on DHP versions welcome from anyone.
  7. Multi-storeys? Supermarkets? It's a Motorway car, designed for USA! Space needed! Get a Smart for shopping? (Keep it in 600's boot?)
  8. So;. 430 + 460 actually a continuation of the Kaizen Lexus approach? Would you say as smooth -or more! - and comfortable as a Ser 4? I'd EXPECT it from Lexus, but occasionally felt they might have been seduced into the Merc/Beemer school of harder suspension etc. Must get a ride in a 430/460! (having turned away from TWO Ser 4s lately!) Know so little about 460s that I don't know if they - like 430s - have 'Air suspension'! Note to self; research!
  9. Well, I've just resisted the Silver one on Exchange + Mart, which has just been reduced. The temptation was strong-and it's local to me, but I might just be 'downsizing'-literally, in getting a smaller car that we both will drive. trouble is, find a car that has a semblance of the LSs 'ride' in a smaller car? Not since Xantia days anyway? was in a Mini recently; like a go-kart with zero compliance! Tempted by this Forfour (Smart) Brabus http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2005-SMART-FORFOUR-BRABUS-SILVER-/131412604870?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item1e98cd37c6 that looks lovely. But comments like; "The steering was heavy, though, likewise the clutch, and boy was the road noise overbearing on motorway journeys," "Well, yes… The chief executive of Smart-Brabus, Bodo Buschmann spoke of "an optimal compromise between sporty firmness and a comfortable ride". Optimal? Hmm… Anything other than totally smooth surfaces induces violent vertical shocks." "Body control is good on fast roads, but the ride, on 17” rims and 40/35 profile tyres (front/rear), is shocking. Loads of road noise too, and more than its share of torque steer." "the noise on motorway journeys was unbearable"..... ......In reviews, put me off. The silence and comfortable ride of the LS is pretty nigh unsurpassed. Am I looking for 'the rainbow' thinking I might find something as comfortable in a smaller car? Oh, and not at mega £££s of course. Enjoy the ride, you LS owners! ( If only the Citroen C6 hadn't got so poor a rep.......style AND comfort....)
  10. ...and here's me vacillating about whether to buy a (singular!) Ser 4 again! To supplement wife's Micra. 'Need' is a flexible concept. When I had my previous Ser 4, it only did 3K miles a year, so obviously not a necessity. £££s in bank-no %. ££s on street, seldom used.....any better? Only one life? etc...... Damp day isn't helping!
  11. 52K miles? wear does cost; can't deny physics? But: do bushes, etc., decay with AGE as well as miles? certainly the cam belt is supposed to be 60K, OR 4 years. How about other rubber? (Nice car at banger price here though!Pity it's Beige)
  12. Well, coincidentally 'Pistonheads' today features a (2nd hand) Rolls Royce at £89K; and the 'Classic Car Show" is featuring the RR Corniche. I'm reminded that I have an old comparison review of the LS 400 (Ser 2, I think!) when they compared it to a RR, and, in many ways, preferred the LS! Certainly a bit more manageable, I'd guess, and, really, RRs are for the passenger?
