  1. Perhaps Waterboarding could be used as a stage of negotiating for vehicles with dealers? not using floodwater of course; that would present its own health and safety issues.
  2. Hi Jack Hope you get things sorted quickly and relatively painlessly. The RX450 is a lovely looking car. My personal view is that insurance is, on the whole, a massive money making scheme - in so many ways premium increases are entirely down to the insurance companies themselves. Everything seems to be subcontracted out (and each time no doubt a Margin is added), and everywhere there seems to be a claim for whiplash and physical injury. I was hit by someone a couple of years ago, entirely their fault, but the first call you get is from the ambulance chasers, checking that you are ok, entirely focused on revenue, and not restitution. The sad thing is so many people are prepared to cash in, in my personal opinion, fraudulently. makes my blood boil.
  3. Looks empty certainly no pink liquid. You can see it in the beige one. Note I know nothing about engines,
  4. That's the £800 one. That is pretty mucky, looks like several builder owners. but you're right the back bumper looks ok
  5. It's just a bit too far for me to go otherwise I'd gladly have a look. I guess if a dealer says it's worn, it's possibly an understatement. I'm surprised he's never put any pictures up, he's had 3 for sale for quite a while
  6. surely this is primed for chasdads potential purchase...
  7. if you could find someone nearby who could help you disassemble the main bits, maybe put those in a garage/shed? then sell the shell for scrap? Wife gets to put her car back on the driveway again (maybe two weeks later) join up here as a gold member, start a link with parts available, updating as they sell off job done, and the world is a better place
  8. is it the one in Lichfield? He was selling all 3 for £3k! What a deal if as Phil says you have the space. I was looking around for centre caps (on an LS400), a breaker wanted £25 for one! So I bought 5 old wheels, with 4 centre caps for £100. In fact I have had 4 of them shot blasted (£40), and hopefully next week will get them powder coated (£80). Looking now it's much cheaper to buy a car and strip it down (my lack of knowledge would inhibit that of course) Certainly saves scrapping them.
  9. Hi All Would anyone know, or know where I can find the different variations of silver used? I've seen a possible door for mine, but the seller lives a fair distance away, and doesnt have the VIN (which I think indicates the colour used?) My own book only lists my car as being Silver (upon sale) Was it possible that only one silver was made?
  10. Hi Colin I think that's the case with the cheap one I just bought from ECP for an LS400. Looking on ebay though, I spotted a blueprint carbon, for between £10 and £11 with free delivery.
  11. They'll be getting a bargain at that price
  12. No longer required
  13. Hi Simon I've not peeled mine off yet, partly because I'm sure I'll end up folding it, ruining it, and feeling a need to smash anything with a 2 metre radius. However I was wondering where to put them? My car has a lexus dealership sticker in the rear, I could replace that, but what happens to the other sticker?
  14. thanks. so it would be a case of starting again. one step forward...
  15. would it need two trays to catch the coolant? If so, no. When I went there was just one tray, under the offside front
  16. Hi Aaron Have you checked insurance costs? The LS400 is in a very high group. My quotes (for a second car) range from £490 to £4500!!!, based on a sub-20 year old car. From next January I would expect it to come down once the car hits 20, and becomes a classic. If you are doing your own work, and there are plenty of helpful people, advice and tutorials on this forum, you'll save money, and avoid the risk of mechanics tinkering with what is a very specific piece of engineering. I used to have a maserati (222SE), and whenever anything went wrong, there were very few people who could do anything with it. Which, looking back, was actually a godsend. I've just had my newly bought LS400 serviced. Opie Oils provided me an incorrect fuel filter, which the mechanic has scratched whilst trying to fit, so thats £20 gone! I provided the mandatory 11 litres of red (pre-mixed) coolant, and he could only empty 6 litres worth. So I'm guessing that'll need re-doing (The colant fill tank has the instructions on it). I'm off to pick a part from toyota tomorrow, so will drop in and ask Lexus how much it will cost to do it again if it needs it. If you know what you're doing, I'm guessing all of this stuff will be rather nicely avoided! A couple of hours looking through past threads will make most things quite straightforward. I'd say a £1 car will need time and bits buying for it, there is a £2.1k Mk4 on Gumtree at the minute on Merseyside, which has been reduced, which looks superb (has the Dynamic handling pack, manifesting itself with bigger wheels and more expensive tyres) I guess that could need some £ on it, but it looks nice on the photos. I've never driven a 430 so can't comment.
  17. Hi looking for two of the above as I currently have a mismatch of three of these and one 8325 on different wheels... Please remember to reply to this thread offering anything for sale you need to be a Gold Member otherwise it is against the terms and conditions of the LOC. It also applies to private messages offering articles/car for sale.
  18. Hi martin just looking at eurocarparts they'll tell you based on car choice, the code on mine (albeit a mk3) is different to an ls430 I looked at, although the picture looks identical, I guess it could just be the same picture they use for all filters
  19. Yes, I found it a few weeks back whilst surfing, can't find it now though! im going to ring the guys at Lexus tomorrow and ask. I checked with the technician when I collected the 5l bottle they gave me (for free!), who said red was the one they use, and that some Ls400s used pink. Toyota use mainly pink, plus at least one car with blue, and no longer use green!, after they ordered it in batches Only to keep receiving pink...As long as I don't remember to drink any of it.
  20. Hi chris

after having to spend a bit more than I thought fixing a newly bought ls400 I'm looking at refurbish the alloys.  I've had a read of your posts, thank for that, I don't suppose you know if the lidl spray is always available?  And whether the etch product is the acid or the spray can one?
