Perhaps surprisingly in the GS450H you can still do this without any drama. I find the traction control, and limited slip diff takes care of such situations without being obtrusive or invasive. I agree though safe driving comes first. John

You obviously did not put it into sports mode then as OMG x 6 does not even remotely describe the acceleration. John.

The only way to do that "and it would be more expensive than buying a battery" is to fit an standard auto gearbox with torque converter. Why not refurb the battery as this could if you DIY bring the cost down to as little as £25 but involves much work. Or better let Richard at Hybrid battery solutions give you a price to repair it with a guarantee. It will still cost less than selling the car with a bad battery. John

The fan motor is a variable speed three phase motor controlled by the high voltage ECU. It is a type of stepper motor. It does not have a normal 12 volt supply, and you risk damaging the internal processor if you supply it with 12 volts dc. You need Techstream or other diagnostic system to test run it. John. -
Unfortunately Techstream does not tell you witch wheel the faulty monitor is in. It only gives the code number of the faulty sensor. Lowering the tyre pressures of each wheel in turn while Techstream is connected will show what code number is in a given wheel. Using a felt tip marker write the code number on each wheel Lowering the pressure of the wheel with the faulty monitor will give no changes on the Techstream screen. John.

Perfectly correct John. After closing the lever the unit is slid depending on it's orientation sideways, up, or down. This last operation connects the 12 volt supply to the HV relays to allow them to connect the HV battery. John.

Collin. you can get at the SPDIF connection at two points. One is on the rear of the tape player, and the other is at the amp under the floor cover at the drivers side of the boot. At the very rearmost end of the amp is a Blue plug this is the SPDIF input into the amp. A similar plug is at the player end. I used the player end to connect to by removing the plug, and making up a screened lead to go from the player to a switched jack socket then back to the original plug. A CD is played to turn on the amp, but when you plug in a digital audio signal at the jack the CD signal is disconnected and the digital signal from the A to D converter is played. All the steering, and touch screen controls for the audio remain working including the surround sound functions. Phone connection also still works as OEM. When buying a converter "about £5" make sure it's an A to D as most on sale are D to A. Do a search on "Aux audio in instructions" for my post with diagrams, and pictures dated 6 July 2017 John.

The only options that I know of are adapters from Grom, and others. These are good, but pricey. I have wired my GS450H by using the SPDIF connection from the CD player to the amp in the boot via an A to D converter. This give excellent quality sound, and still keeps all the OEM controls. It does not however allow control of the sound source from the cars touch screen. The A to D converter can be supplied with audio via a bluetooth devise if required. I agree transmitters, and tape adapters give poor quality sound. John.

Andy. The usual arrangement is that there is a clear portion to one side of the large fuse box after taking off the black lid. The strip fuse is under this clear section, but the clear cover cannot be removed from the top. It is good that the car does start for a short period as this indicates the hybrid system is working as this is responsible for turning the engine to start it. The possible cause for not continuing to run is a fuse in the fuel pump circuit. John

The camshaft sensor is an easy issue to deal with, and should cost sub £100 if it is replaced at an independent garage. It "may" just need cleaning. John. -
The fuse in the service plug will not be blown as the hybrid battery remains completely isolated until the hybrid system gets to ready mode. Many people remove this link to check it, and then fail to complete the refitting procedure giving rise to more problems. Although I agree it is somewhat over kill high voltage protection gloves should be worn to remove, and refit the link. John.

I assume this is a hybrid. I am not sure of the exact setup with your car as I do not have one, but most of the hybrids follow a pattern. First do you get any electrical operations? headlights electric windows. If not there is a fuse in the battery positive terminal 150amp from memory. If this is ok there is a strip fuse under the clear plastic cover in the fuse box under the bonnet. This looks like a thin strip of metal running along the side of the box. Visually check this for blown sections. If this has any missing (blown) sections it will need replacing "not an easy job" requiring removal of the fuse box to get at the underside. There are other various smaller fuses in the fuse boxes that are likely to be blown the dome fuse in particular. If you are lucky no other damage will have been done, but this cannot be guaranteed. As you have discovered jump starting hybrids in particular is problematic, and should be avoided if at all possible. John.

Did you by any chance try to jump start the car before changing the battery? and did you fit the new battery with the correct polarity the first time? John.

When ever the tracking is altered there is a re calibration process in Techstream to reset the steering wheel centre position, and for the electric power steering, and yaw rate sensors. This possibly could be the reason for your occasional pull under braking. If you have Techstream it is easy to do as the instructions for the procedure appear on screen. Lee. Do you know if the did a steering re calibration as part of the tracking? with Techstream or other. John.

Lee. How does the car feel on the road now? Have you noticed much difference? I ask because my car feels a little loose around the centre steering position at speed It is difficult to give a better description. There is no play in any ball joints, or worn bushings, and no play in the steering rack. Shocks are as new, and the tyres ware very evenly across the treads. The ride is good with no knocks or rattles. The car tracks strait on the road with no hands. I am considering a four wheel alignment, but am reluctant to go ahead, and upset the even tyre ware for perhaps no improvement. John.

I do not think the Pioneer system has a separate amp "I could be wrong so no doubt someone will correct me if I am" I think it's all in the head unit. John. -
Exide make a range of AGM batteries to fit Toyota/Lexus vehicles with the correct small JAP terminal posts where required. They are sold as Exide Edge batteries. Mobilty scooter batteries are also made in suitable physical sizes often with higher amp hour capacities the only downside being the terminals being bolt on rather than clamp type posts.These batteries are AGM that are very ruggedly built, and able to withstand deep discharge, and charge on a daily basis. Designed for indoor, and outdoor use are about as safe, and reliable a battery available. John.

CHECK YOUR SPARE TYRE _ and the NUTS!!

Some good advise there Chris. I bet the great majority of folks do not check there spare tyre pressures at the same time as those on the car. The OEM alloy nuts however are designed to be used with the steel space saver spare. To overcome the problem of tight wheel nuts I carry a 12 volt lighter plug in electric wheel nut impact gun. It came in a handy plastic case, and choice of 4 impact sockets. In my GS450H it fastens nicely in the boot on the righthand side with the small strap that I believe is there to hold a first aid kit. It saves much time, and struggle changing wheels also working on my caravan wheels when towing. At from memory it was £25 well spent. It has come in handy removing stuck nuts for other people I have come across stuck on the side of the road. I also carry a small compressor, and a can of tyre gue. John. -
Hi Bernie. My condolences, and welcome to LOC. Disconnect the negative battery terminal of the car then charge the battery with the Halfords charger for 24 hours. Then reconnect the battery. If the battery is any good "it may not recover from being left discharged for a long period" the car should now start. If it does not turn over enough to start the car a new battery will be required. The CTEK charger only works if there is a reasonable charge level in the battery to begin with.. John.

That OS looks rely rusty. To your knowledge has the car spent much time near the coast in salty air? or is it just the salt used in the winter that perhaps has caused this? Please let us know if the car feels any different after the tracking has been corrected. John.

Correct, but not by Toyota. A lithium battery is used in the 7 seat Prius the non plug in version. So Toyota are obviously looking at changing battery chemistry, but are not in a hurry to ditch NiMH John.

The usual method of stripping the mirror is to tilt the mirror upwards as far as it will go. Then lifting the bottom edge of the mirror glass with as many fingers as you can firmly pull the glass from it's clips at the bottom, and then unhooking the top clips. The rest is then a matter of undoing the self tapping screws now visible. It will help to release the glass if you blow warm air from a hair dryer behind the mirror glass to soften the plastic making the clips easier to release. John.
