  1. The Owners Manual doesn't say that the engine warning light could be either Red or Amber. So in short, I have: The Red Master Warning Light. TRAC Off warning light. Malfunction Indicator Lamp. The Manual states taht the TRAC Off warning light means that the car is okay to drive. The Malfunction Indicator Lamp states that it could mean that eh fuel tank is empty or I have a loose fuel cap. The fuel cap is fine, however, it does have an LPG conversion the gas has just got low (still half a tank of petrol in it) - so could be something to do with that, will fill it up and see what happens!
  2. Hi John, there is a Red exclamation mark in the middle of the speedometer, but the engine light is Amber. Left my Owners Manual at work! Trying to navigate the online one is a pain :D thanks
  3. Just got back after a 150 mile drive, - just as I was parking up, fuel low... engine warning light comes on, together with TRAC OFF light.... I have got to do two 70 mile trips tomorrow, - do you think it will be okay to drive for these journeys, as to be honest I haven't got time to investigate and I need the car? Many thanks for any help
  4. Be very interested in this also, how did you get on, Jim?
  5. Thanks all. Lexus dealers weren't much help unfortunately. I found this technical bulletin from Toyota which describes the problem perfectly: http://www.vfaq.net/docs/TSBs/EL002-05.pdf ...seems a little coincidental that it's exactly the same symptoms, on the same year cars. I have no idea how similiar these Highlander/Cruiser/Prius units are to the LS430, however, there is also a fix; it was down to a hairline crack in one of the connector's on one of the circuit boards (Pin 60) http://www.techno-fandom.org/~hobbit/cars/mfd/ This outfit have also fixed many, so it's obviously a known problem, but they won't ship outside the USA unfortunately. http://www.mrwhizard.com/Climate%20Control%20Repair.cfm If I could determine that the Prius/Cruiser unit is the same as the LS430, I could at least advise a local firm, - I asked an ebay Lexus-parts dealer; he thinks the unit is a completely different design... shame if true, - as discovering a possible hairline crack in one of the many circuit board connections looks like a painstakingly long task, as the car electronic repair guys I have spoken to so far aren't familiar with this issue.
  6. Hi again - sorry I have yet another query (sure they'll be more) however this is more serious, - really hoping for some assist if possible (I have only just brought this car privately). I have intermittent problems with the MFD on my 04 LS430. It suddenly stops working & renders the air-con, sat-nav, reversing camera, everything which is controlled by the touch screen and surrounding buttons - useless. The radio can still be controlled by the radio unit however. When this happens I receive messages on the MFD: "external system not connected", "check connection of the air conditioner", - and none of the buttons work. It can stop working for half and hour or so, and suddenly start again, - or when I turn the car off for 5-10 minutes sometimes the problem resolves. I read a suggestion to check that the connections going into the rear lights weren't corroded, due to a possible leaking gasket, but both the inside of the rear lights look fine. I have tried disconnecting the battery for a while, and have also removed the wood trim and radio to check the connections (I haven't removed the MFD unit yet, however). I have checked some of the fuses in the cabin, which look fine, but surely if it was a fuse problem, it would occur constantly not intermittently? The battery is OEM & all other electronics work fine, so I don't think it's due to this (but of course I could be wrong about any of the above...). I have searched high and low on the net, and there are a number of people (mostly in the US) who have had this problem, but I cannot find a clear solution, however there seems to be a common issue with 2004 models in regards to the connection to the MFD circuit board which fails, - so, I could contact a MFD repairer, however, how can I be sure that this is definitely the problem first? Any constructive guidance at all really would be greatly appreciated in regards to how to proceed to get this sorted on my new car! :) :(
  7. Many thanks all :) Is it important to get an OEM part? Or maybe a higher grade aftermarket job? Do you folk buy your parts yourself and give them to a garage to ensure decent parts are used? If you can recommend any good sources for OEM parts, - or, for that matter, any good sources for salvaged parts, it would be greatly appreciated :)
  8. I have read about the disasterous possibility of coolant mixing in with the gearbox, and that the best prevention method is to simply replace the radiator. Is it best to go for an OEM radiator? THere are some brand new ones on ebay for £60, but I am presuming that they are aftermarket and not OEM? Can anyone recommend a good source? Thanks.
  9. Thanks Mark. That's interesting - thanks Titch - I seem to remember watching a tutorial on how to remove the trim near the Display Screen, and it instructed to do just that, - although the reason given was so that you can move the gear stick into N - basically so it's out of your way when removing the trim. In the Owner's Manual it only states that the parking assist monitor *may* not operate correctly when you reconnect or replace the battery, so you have to go through a "normalisation" procedure. I am glad that there doesn't seem to be any radio codes, or other codes, needed, as I haven't got any.. !
  10. I just wanted to confirm before I disconnect my battery what, if anything, needs resetting thereafter? Just want to make sure after trying to fix one problem I don't run into more. Many thanks.
  11. Very steep. I am a good few years younger, with less ncb, - the fully comp protected insurance for my modified LS430 is £385 with my girlfriend also on the polilcy
  12. Okay further research seems to suggest that I don't have tyre valve sensors, it simply monitors the circumference of the wheel so shoudn't be an issue
  13. Just on the off-chance someone might be able to offer some help. I am about to get the wheels refurbished on my 2004 ls430, - however, the garage has advised that the tyre pressure monitors probably haven't been removed since birth so are probably heavily corroded, so, may break when removed. He also mentioned that there are three different types that he's aware of (his not sure which the LS430 has) - however, some of them are very expensive (£150+VAT - each). Has anyone here had their wheels done - did you run into problems with the pressure sensors? Just after any info and wondering how common it is... I am presuming that if they do break, I could do away with them, and ask Lexus to re-program to turn off the warning lights? Thanks for any help.
  14. Mirror lights: I would like to swap the “greeting” lights in my 04 LS430 mirrors, to a much brighter LED if possible. Is this a simple straight swap, or is there anything to be concerned with? If easy, does anyone would know which bulbs to go for? Front Fog Lights: The main Xenons look nice, but I think the halogen in the fogs could possibly do with a bit of an update, what are my options here? Could I simply swap the bulbs for some more powerful ones, - LED maybe? Is an HID conversion simple and straight forward in terms of install, reliability and battery drainage? Lastly, the front grill, has anyone refurbished theirs to the factory finish? Maybe just gone over with it with a chrome touch up pen or something? Many thanks for any help here.
  15. So now all you've just got to do is keep it looking like that :) - that ISM will make it much easier to clean and should last a long time... - did he advise you on products and maintenance?
  16. Wow, that was seriously worth it! Coulsdon S.London? How much did he charge out of interest? I am thinking of getting my interior done...
