Kris I've had my IS250 since December last year, it had 107,000 miles on when I picked it up, now it's on 113,000. It is as smooth as a cashmere codpiece and is in great condition. Getting over 43mpg mixed motoring and it's fast and responsive when you floor it. Mine is on a 56 plate (Jan 2007) and I would buy it again now if I was looking for a car. Had it serviced by Lexus a couple of months ago, they do a special service for higher mileage vehicles. I paid less than 5k for mine with 6 months warranty and I would have paid more if the dealer had been more insistent. Hope this helps

Interesting to read about the ground walnut shells. We used this technique (carbo blasting) to clean gas turbine blades on my previous warships. Ostensibly it was to remove the salt deposits off the compressor stage blades and then the shells were burned up in the combustion chambers. Although there was a dosing pot on the gas turbine itself, the preferred method was to throw the shells 'at a measured rate' down the air intakes on the upper deck. Great in theory but once the stoker picked the wrong intake and pebble dashed the boys in the boiler room who were standing under the fresh air vent to stay cool. We used to call the process 'feeding the chickens' because that's exactly what it looked like!

Hi all I had a visit from Chips Away (don't ask) this morning and he asked me to move the car (2007 IS250 SEL petrol/auto) so that he could work on it. I tried reversing up a gentle slope but I needed about 1500 revs just to get the car to creep backwards. It was cold (1deg C) and the engine was cold too. No wheel spin, no strange noises, just as if the reverse gear was slipping. No problem in Drive. The car is regularly serviced by Lexus. 107,000 miles on the clock. Any ideas please?

I bought my 2007 IS250 just before Christmas and haven't regretted it for a second. I now enjoy the quiet and refinement so I'm not that bothered about the exhaust note, I guess I got that out of my system with previous classics or maybe I'm just getting old and boring. There isn't much traffic where I live and most of the roads have 40 mph limits so I'm getting between 32 and 34 mpg locally. It drops down pretty quickly if I only do short journeys of 1-2 miles. I managed 50 mpg on a run from Portsmouth to New Milton, mostly motorway and clear roads, cruise control for 80% of the journey and didn't go above 60 mph. However that was a test to see what I could squeeze out of it as a best case scenario. I reset my ECU a couple of days ago and wait to see if that has made any difference but in the meantime forget those last minute nerves, it is a superb car.

A ball joint splitter should do it. The hammer type are the cheapest, failing that, try a bit of heat. WD40 has a lot of good uses but it's not that a good as a pen oil, especially on badly seized components. Depending on where you are in Hampshire, I'd be happy to lend you my splitter. I'm between Highcliffe and Lymington.

Thought this was interesting. I guess it was easy for a previous owner to think that any wheel nut will do as long as the thread size matches. Again, thanks for all the suggestions, I'll go round and check that all the nuts are the right type and re-torque them. If I lose any after that then I will become paranoid....

Thanks for the replies. I did some research and they are genuine Lexus wheels but the nuts are probably the wrong ones. Mine are definitely tapered with no flat or captive washer. Correct ones now ordered. Btw, I only found one nut next to the wheel, it was the locking wheel nuts so I've ruled out foul play...

Hi all I recently bought the Feb 2007 IS250 in the pic and have lost 4 wheel nuts from the front offside wheel in 3 weeks!! Firstly I noticed one nut laying next to the wheel when it was parked at my house so I replaced it and checked all of the others for tightness. Today I washed the car and noticed 3 nuts missing off the same wheel. I'm not big into conspiracy theories but driving through a Paris underpass with 2 nuts holding a wheel on doesn't sound like my idea of fun. I guess the questions are: Is this a common issue? Have I bought a car with the wrong wheel/nut combinations? Are my wheels (16inch) original Lexus wheels or have they been swapped? Thanks

3 weeks into new ownership and I'm loving it! The site is amazing, so much knowledge and experience. I've now done a few 'economy' runs to check the boring numbers, now it's time to put my foot down and have fun. Going to clay bar the paintwork and screens over the next couple of days, never done this before but the car deserves to look it's best. Any advice welcome...

Jackcramerr, I have a Feb 2007 car on a 56 plate. 107,000 miles on the clock and regular Lexus services in the book. I must confess, I have never bought a car based on fuel economy, in my car ownership history I have always let my heart rule my head, for the most part it's paid off and I've had some great cars....Jayt13, I don't usually dawdle, I just wanted to know the best case scenario, it seems with day to day driving I'm getting about 32 mpg. I thought the original post was excellent and just wondered how petrol compared. I guess we don't have that 6th gear issue?

Thanks for the great welcome. Bluesman is right, it's never too late to learn, I keep discovering new interests and I dive in, what is there to lose? Just done my Day Skipper qualification having never been on a yacht before. Done aircraft carriers and destroyers but never went near anything with sails. I might have a stab at piano too, maybe give it 3 months in the New Year and see if there's any aptitude there. In the meantime I've got to enjoy this new car......if it stopped raining for a day I might get it washed and waxed!

OK, top tip, I thought there was something awry!

Stevenson as it's my surname. As far as I know, only one guy records with my guitars, Daniel James. I made him a custom Telecaster from scratch and a Martin D28 copy. All my guitars are out on permanent loan to friends and family members, I just keep a Martin at home for messing around with and the occasional open mic night. Jazz is way too clever for me but the blues, now you're talking!

Thanks for the welcome, Bluesman. Read the Ts&Cs, ready for the test. Are you a musician? I used to make guitars, actually better than I play them...
