Wouldn't trust the range figures on the trip computer - I've yet to get more than just over 400 miles and as many people say, I get the higher range of mpg than most due to the miles I pile on it - I've covered 19000 miles since early December and the real tank to tank average is currently running at 39.47 since day one - recent averages have actually been higher - more like 41 as the car loosens up and the weather warms up......

  2. Latest update - first 10,000 mile service by Lexus Stoke, friendly lot, NX as a loan car too, nothing major to do - just the usual rattle on the rear number plate, now sorted and a replacement wiper blade hopefully will stop the smear across my eyeline.

    So, what's the first 10,000 miles and 3.5 months been like - well mpg has been acceptable for a 2.5L petrol at 38.6 for the period, the drive remains serene, apart from when nailing it, but nothing as loud as a diesel would be, and surprisingly sprightly for a bulky heavyweight, especially in Sport setting. The challenge of driving on ev is sometimes beyond even my feather foot but for a lot of the time I can manage to spend a fair amount of time with the little ev light illuminated and massively improves the overall mpg.

    The ride, whilst firm, is nowhere near as harsh as the trade reviews say, certainly not as firm as my Evoque was and it smooths over most road surfaces with aplomb. I am now getting to grip with the slightly false steering feel, certainly not as direct as the Evoque, but body roll is well controlled and the handling is exemplary. The seats, on my poverty spec SE being cloth, are superb and ever so comfortable for long 300mile + journeys, and certainly much cooler than leather on the few warm days that we have had.

    The interior is fantastic and I love getting into it every morning and running my hands over the tactile surfaces - especially the steering wheels and the gear shift.

    All in all, very pleased with my choice......

Latest up-date - over 8000 miles on the clock now and still running like a dream - last two fill ups have been 45 and 44mpg and included a good chunk of motorway driving!  A couple of minor niggles - last few cars I have had automatically turn the rear wiper on in reverse if the wipers are working and I can't see that the NX does this and on the drivers side of the windscreen I seem to get a band of poorly wiped area right in my eyeline and no matter what I do to clean the windscreen and blades always seems to be there....grrr!

  4. 6500miles + and perversely although the weather has been colder these last couple of weeks, mpg has been 39 to 40 on last 3 fill ups - all Shell standard unleaded and this really seems to give the best results. What are people's experience of running the tank down? I usually run down to when the light comes on and find I only get around 45 litres in - does R mean it goes into reserve and then how brave can you be?

As I change my car every 3 years on a lease, and am particularly anal about measuring mpg for tax reasons, I can confidently say that all the cars I have had get nowhere near the stated mpg figures and that the NX is certainly no worse than any of the others. I have done around 35,000 miles per annum for the last 35 years so can say that I get a pretty good mix of driving conditions and the average mpg for petrol cars has been mid 30's and diesels mid 40's regardless of cc...the latest tankful on my NX is currently at 41 which, given the current temperature, for a 2.5L petrol is quite frankly outstanding - BTW - I do not drive like a pussy when I have that amount of miles to cover but I do like the challenge the NX gives you in trying to maximise it's mpg.....

Back on topic.....I always find that you get to appreciate the designers skill when you wash a car and get to run your hand over the panel work - you get to discover so much more of the creases and lines in the bodywork when washing by hand - what I really like is the panel that the fuel flap sits in and it's almost horizontal position and the bulge of the wheel arch - very satisfying. Strangely, one of the nicest cars to wash was my old mans MK1 Laguna which had a lovely smooth outline..........However, one poor design foible on the NX is that I have found that the rear door seals on the trailing edge of the door don't half collect crap in them!

Right - latest update - now over 4100 miles in and still loving the experience - the speed that the heated seats go from brr cold to bloody hell its burning me nuts off is brilliant, the only thing I miss from my evoque is the heated steering wheel which was a £50 option on any model spec rather than a model specific standard item on the NX - very disappointed at that.....quietness and serenity still rule - regularly do 250-300 mile trips in the day and I get out still refreshed and without my head buzzing - it's great that you don't have to turn the radio up when you are on the motorway and blast your head off to hear anything. Surprised at how easily I can spin up the wheels now that I have got used to driving it a little more aggressively when setting off - better check I don't rinse the tyres too quickly! Also love the way the Windows slow up as they raise or lower - a little thing I know but it adds to the feel good factor.

Now over 4000miles and the last few fill ups have all been over 38 with varied road driving - I use a neat free Iphone app called Road Trip Le to do tank to tank averages and it shows a graph of mpg from fill up to fill up - definitely shows up when I've used cheap supermarket fuels as they show up well beneath the average and have been what has dragged down the overal figures......
