  1. Moose don't care how your drive. I been in quite few dangerous situations and I would ay 90% of them was unpredictable and not related to how I was driving, somebody just jumped in front of me and I was very happy that I had tyres which I had at the time. Fair enough. But as per my point above, sometimes the way you drive has nothing to do with the situation and you wouldn't want to find out there is no grip in tyres in emergency.
  2. Seems like they are refurbished and painted/coated, not a cover.
  3. Yes... Tyres are literally the only thing that hold you on the road and you have some most horrible tyres on sale. I mean yes they are "legal" but that is about it. And I am not brand snob, not saying you must get Michelin, but just "safe" tyres which any mid-range brand for £8 extra per tyre could do. It really horrifies me how many people in UK just fit cheapest tyres there is and call it a day, when the tyre is the most important safety feature on the car. As well if money is really an issue (which I find hard to believe taking overall cost of motoring), then little research goes long way - you can get Gislaved, Uniroyal (owned by Michelin) or you can get Fulda, Sava, Debica (owned by Goodyear)... which are "non-branded" but made to same high standards and are safe tyres. Certainly better than some chinese crap which is made without any standards and where patter is designed to look nice over being functional (I am not joking). By the way - there is nothing wrong with Chinese manufacturing, many big brands make tyres there and they are fine, problem is with Chinese design and safety standards... there is much more to making the tyre then just making nice looking mould and casting rubber in it... and this investment into research and development just isn't there in China. They pretty much buy premium tyre copy the outline of it, but construction and material scienience is simply not there. What I find strangest is that mid-range or even premium tyres don't even cost that much more. Say if Sailun is £56, then some mid-range brands like Avon are £65 and Premium tyres maybe £80 (talking about standard 225/45/17). Putting things in perspective that is the difference of £100 for set of tyres, which will last for 30k miles... and that is about as much as it costs to fill single tank of fuel for a week or two. Not to mention it is false economy, because premium tyre will last whole 30k miles providing predictable grip all along if properly inflated and cared for, whereas chinesium ones may only last 15k and be extremely unpredictable and dangerous even when part worn after 8k. In short over period of time "budget" tyres works out more expensive than premium tyres just because of how they wear. Other big issue with comparing premium and budget tyres is that most of them are compared when brand new, and they may look "just" 30% worse in wet stopping distance... I mean that just is a difference of say 8 metres, when you thing about stopping here 2 metres away from the back of that truck, or there 6 metres under that truck... I would not call that difference "just". But it gets worse - nobody compares worn tyres and chinesium tyres becomes very unpredictable when just part worn. This is not tyre thread so I stop here, but as I said I am just surprised people who seems to care about cars often pay no attention to tyres... which is baffling.
  4. I would say it isn't necessary. Undersealing mainly protects the underside of the car from stone chips which then can propagate into rust, as bottom of IS250 is almost fully covered by plastic, and the parts which are not covered are already undersealed or have covers (like wheel liners etc.). So to be honest it is pointless to underseal IS250 as very little of metal is exposed in the first place and it does not actually rust under the plastics. The only places where I would do it is the lifting points as they likely get scratched when lifting the car. However... in my experience Lexus (as most modern cars) uses zinc treated metal and doesn't rust for very long time even when compromised. Just check your lifting points which are 100% are scratched and you can see there is very little surface rust even after over 12 years being exposed. I have been under my car for many times over the years and to be fair I haven't see anything that would justify any additional rust protection. Things that rust are exhaust, but that is just how it should be, then anti-roll bars which are powder-coated which over the time cracks and rust and some bolts holding underside panels. There was never any rust on the car body itself. Most of suspension components are actually aluminium and they not rusted, but just covered with brake dust. There are few points under bonnet that needs attention, battery tray in particular (for obvious reasons), tops of shock towers (usually rust around bolts), some ground points and that is about it. In summary, IS250 in my experience do not rust and thus do not require any additional attention. One exception - if there is damage on the car, then the areas will rust over the time e.g. on my current car previous owner scratched corner of front arch and that corner is starting to rust. But for 17 years old car that is not really exceptional and just sign of negligence.
  5. Kind of sad really, he had no chances to run away in that car, so just totalled perfectly good car - most of American interceptors have ~400hp and can reach 160MPH with ease. Cannot see anytime he was going very fast or accelerated well at all, cop was just idling behind most of the time waiting for clear road for tactical contact. It is very clear when cop is behind and doing 127MPH - that is GPS, so it would be ~140 indicated, which means he was doing top speed in IS250. When he pulled away I it seems he wasn't even flooring it, because it looked like he just casually drove away, too forever, cop even have time to pick-up his had and casually catch-up to him. What a waste. lol. I hope you joking... why would anyone need high wiz in middle of the day when there is car on the roof in the middle of the road?
  6. It just seems like wrong priorities. Suspension is nice, but surely the tyres should have been replaced before that?!
  7. As other said - something is very wrong with your left calliper. It could move very slightly side to said (like 0.5mm), but not in other directions. So basically your right calliper is fine, it moves just a little and it seems like it was replaced, but your left one is completely gone and needs attention asap.
  8. mk3 IS250 Auto should fit mk2 Auto, I don't believe they changed anything about drivetrain. However, I don't think it fits manual (at very least autos had different final ratio) and as far as I know neither had LSD at all - IS250 auto were open diff.
  9. I kind of doubt it, RC300h has funny little brakes behind those massive wheels.
  10. I generally agree with some comments - it is kind of laziness, but in other hand Lexus cars are packed to the brim with all sort of features and some owners don't even know how to describe the button, never mind to find it in manual. So I appreciate that asking on the forum is probably the most reasonable way as they don't even know what to look for in the manual. I may be weird, but when I bought my first IS250 I took the owners manual, brought it home and spend entire evening reading it and finding out all the features my car has, there were many moments like "oh wow I never knew car can do this". As well I have another joke - "Lexus owner manual describes all features that you car has, Toyota owner manual it describes all features your car lacks (and explains all those blank buttons)".
  11. That is what I done on mine, replacing exhaust on IS250 is just not economically viable. Regarding the tyres that is sad reality in UK, even if tyres are "premium", they often are not matching, which in any other country would be illegal on same axle, and not ideal at best of times, but it is ok in UK and people do that a lot. Good luck with the purchase and let us know how it goes.
  12. That was my first thought - Lexus original filter has activated carbon and it looks like that out of the box.
  13. Would like to come, but at the time being I am not sure whenever the car will be working (or what make and model it may even be), nor whenever I will be available. So enjoy!
  14. the 200t is caller 300 in US, so that is what I meant, but 300h would not be amazing on such wheels either. I am sure it feels like driving one one. But the cost must have been immense, one needs custom tyres for these and I ma sure suspension was completely ruined to fit them, or they are running on like 80mm extension pipe.
  15. maybe a little bit... 😄 I just check tyres before I set-off for longer trip.
  16. Yeah, but think about ride quality... I hope it is at least RC350AWD and not 300 😄
  17. At least it is NOT RCF.... That is the only good think to say about it 😄
  18. Just to clarify one point - Lexus Relax is "global" policy ( global meaning - available in all countries where Lexus officially sells cars). If your car is FLSH and it has been less than 1 year since last service with Lexus and you drove the car for less than 10k miles, it should be under warranty. The next question - is rear steering rack covered by this warranty?! I don't know, they may try to put it on "wear and tear" items (like most of suspension components), but considering the cost I would argue with them. As well, considering how rare the problem is and because it is likely not mechanically worn, rather faulty electronics, perhaps it is possible to argue it should be warranted. https://www.lexus.eu/owners/warranty/lexus-relax/?lexReferrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2F#watch-film So have you mentioned the warranty and have they specifically said car is either not warranted, or the part is not covered?
  19. Because it won't fit - 255 will catch on at least arches. I think 235 is most you can get, maybe 245 with different offset, especially on 18s" 50MPH is not exactly "limp mode" and considering british motorways one is lucky to even reach such speed 😄 The way I see it - 50MPH is enough to get you to the tyre shop where you can get the tyre fixed or replaced, I never had an issue using spare, but obviously that is your decision not mine. Generally, I understand when people without spare (like IS300h) wants to get spare, because glue kit is frankly useless and I been in that situation myself where I had to get trailer, just because car did not have spare and glue kit did not work and left me stranded, but spare is generally enough to get you where you are going. This would be first time where somebody is looking to get full size spare on car with staggered set-up. Normally people are getting full size spares on AWD, because different size spare could mess-up the differential and thus it makes sense, but AWD cars usually have square set-up.
  20. Correct. I just said TechSteam as it would not work without those drivers.
  21. When it comes to inspection, the Lexus dealer is to be honest best for that. If you don't trust the dealer you bought it from for some reason (like being financially interested not to find anything), then just go to another dealer. For example Lexus Reading sold me RC with very worn out brakes which they deemed to be "okay", but when I took it to Lexus Woodford they right away told me that brakes have to be replaced ASAP and Lexus Reading ended-up replacing all brakes for free. When it comes to servicing it is mostly the same deal, independent garages are very unlikely to offer you better price as Lexus servicing price is very competitive, besides you could still get warranty until 2025 if you car is under 100k. If you car is over 100k miles then I would try to ask for "essential care" service, which officially no longer provided, but many dealers still offer this, the difference being that essential care does not provide "relax" warranty. For example I was able to get essential care service in December for £160, no independent can beat such price for car servicing. Sorry, for not answering your question directly as I don't know any independent garages around Bristol, but the fact is - I don't know any independent garages I would trust.. period. And therefore I do not consider that using independent with Lexus is really beneficial at all in comparison with other makes.
  22. Could be price from pricing guides for valuation i.e. they enter all the details and just get the price spit-out and they use that to price the car. And the valuation is never round number.
  23. I would go with either 225/18 or even better with spare from IS/RC200t which is about the same size as 18" wheel. Well I guess that defeats the purpose of full size spare. You can't fit 255 in the front, so that is out of question. By the way why do you want to replace spare?
  24. Not sure one should be proud about it. It is not like windows will become "classic" 😄 That is true, the W10 in particular has only on issue - there are no signed drivers for TechStream on W10, so one has to agree to install "unsigned" driver which gives multiple scary prompts when installing. But apart of that it works fine.
