  1. Indeed - I am not saying above video is definitive answer to our problems, but I think it helps with perspective, especially when somebody calls it emergency and starts throwing paint at buildings, cars, concerts, sport events etc. I myself have been researching this topic for at least decade when I realise some of the claims and solutions just doesn't make sense, and yet until today I was not aware that technically speaking ice ages has not ended (by historic climate perspective). How many people knows about this, how many have considered it, what does it mean, does our politicians considered it, have they accounted for it having potential impact when they agreed to something. I reckon not many knows about it, "termination" phase it self seems to be relatively new study from 2008. And yet we have proportion of population running with "Greta" and other ecomentalists and ruining our lives... Just think about it - how many "just stop oil" ecoterrorists knows at least basics of environment studies?! I reckon not many... yet they keep shouting "climate emergency"! Imagine one is locked in the sauna and doesn't know what the sauna is... what would their reaction be when temperature reaches 80C?! Well that is how they seems to react to climate change! Yet when one knows it is sauna, I think the reaction is much more adequate. I am all for spending more money to understand earth climate better, climate patterns better, definitively prove what natural increase/decrease and what is human activity doing... ONLY then we can identify what is causing it and what we can do, or if we even need to do anything. This is not question of beliefs, not a matter of opinion, not an observation one can do by looking at life-time experience or without concrete scientific evidence - this is a question of research and finding the cause and applying right solution to it. If anything available data is horrible (and I am not saying it was better at some point, I am just saying it is missing), I myself often quote pollution per sector, in which transportation is responsible for ~10-12% global emissions and from which vehicles are 2.4%. Now those are true numbers I am not pulling them out from from my back side, BUT they are far from perfect. Do begin with 10% was number in 2016, 12% was in 2020, but the data for first one was collected between 2006 and 2012, and second one 2012 to 2018. Meaning we talking about decades old data! And not only that - the % is CO2 equivalent of SOME pollution sources. Now what is the problem with that. First of all if you look at the underlying source data, then it turns out that every country has different methodology to count it, different methodology of what in included or excluded from pollution... so the end result in technical terms is "shaite in shaite out"! Some countries count Methane and Phosphates, some exclude particle pollution, or lead, there are just so many variables, can you even trust data from countries like China or ruzzia?! What I am saying - it seems the first step is to have GLOBAL pollution sources identified, analysed and have complete data set of all pollution sources, consistently added in the list, using same well established methodology. In short - we don't even know how much exactly we pollute, we have rough estimate at best! How we can address the problem when realistically we are guessing what it is?! That is why I kind of like the questions raised in US and now in UK as well... "for US to become carbon neutral by 2050 it will cost $30 Trillion, what impact it will have on global warming"... answer - "we don't actually know". But $30 Trillion can pretty much eradicate hunger, most of diseases, probably finance fusion energy research 10 times over and there would be still money to spare. Now sure this is just the money, but that is opportunity cost as well, so if we would spend that money wisely our life quality can significantly improve, but now it will be significantly reduced for over 30 years because we traying to battle the problem we don't even understand properly and we don't know whenever what we doing adds any value, or it is just total waste because maybe we indeed in some sort of "Ice age termination" phase... or another million of possibilities we have not thought about! I guess in summary, I am saying - to make any decision we as a society/race at very least need good quality data. Nobody can make good decision without having even basic fundamentals right. And I am not saying we should do nothing! I am saying we should use logical and consistent approach - identify the issue, find the data, analyse the data, make a decision. Not suspect there is an issue, make assumption about the subject you don't know and it isn't even well researched and right away jump to conclusion and force everyone implemented the remedies you guess may work which has impact for decades.
  2. Came across this brilliant video (at the bottom)... just to be clear I personally think it is somewhat speculative, truth is that our understanding about climate is very limited. That is why I HATE terms like "climate emergency" so much, how can one say it is emergency if in fact we don't know what "normal" is? Instead, "Climate Change" is correct term, because that is observable and we simply stating the fact e.g. average temperature changed by 0.01% per year or whatever, but it is moronic to jump to conclusions and follow ecovandalists and ecomentalists when we don't fully understand the causes, just by observing short term changes that we still cannot explain! For example many people do not realise that CO2 induced global warming is just a theory! It does seem logical and some of data corelates, as well it is fact that climate is warming, but it has not been definitively proven it is because of CO2, or because of human activity... yet most people nowadays already treat this as a fact which it isn't. It may be true, or it may not be true - the judgment is still out, research is still ongoing, the results are not consistent, yet we have things like Paris Accords where our leaders agreed on actions for something we don't fully understand yet. Now if the pledge would have been to spend 1% of GDP to research this - fine, but we just skipped that part and went right into the action without knowing what we are acting for. Just to note - I am not meteorologist, nor climate scientists, I know some people really get offended if I don't state the obvious when it is just my opinion, so I just like to look at sources on both sides and use logic to work out what adds-up and what doesn't. The video below actually introduced me to few terms that didn't know about before and few interesting processes. For example the fact that based on correct terminology we are still currently in "ice age", it is speculative to say that we are in now in "termination" period, but the concept itself is kind of proven and repetitive. And I think that perspective is what is mostly lacking in the discussion. This planet is billions years old, most of processes takes 100s of thousands of years, and we (or rather all the ecomentalists) are looking in tiny period of few hundred years to draw conclusion about impending doom. In short - what is being presented here is more along the lines of what I consider objective view or at least discussion when it comes to climate change, I think to understand what is going on we need to look into at least 100s of thousands of years climate perspective, because otherwise we are at risk of sampling error and general research bias. We can even call it cherry picking - in the event that takes 100 thousands of years we picked last few hundreds to maybe a couple of thousands of years and we trying to draw conclusion from that. Yet if we broaden the perspective then we can see that climate was both much hotter and much colder in the past, and if indeed it is termination period then we can expect climate as much as 3C higher than current temperature, yet for some reason we (or at least some people) are alarmed about predicted 2C increase and want to basically stop any climate change. Isn't that a bit foolish to try prevent something from happening despite it being natural cycle for the planet? I guess it is fair to say we don't know if it is or if it isn't, but that is why we should not jump to the conclusions too early. Now what it has to do with cars and car forum? We all obviously impacted by these overreaching, idiotic and hysterical reactions from ecomentalists. I do agree with desire of preserving the planet, but to do that we need to understand what is going on first, perhaps improve the science and then act, not simply stop living like the ecovandals basically demand. So all of our quality of live is negatively impacted by minority which is overreacting to the processes they don't understand. It would be fair if they demand to fund the research to understand what is going on, but they just want to skip that part and go right into corrective actions despite not knowing what they are correcting and why. So yeah... the video:
  3. This is just speculative render, doubt it would look like this. As for my personal opinion - it is kind of generic and ugly, sort of oversized GT86... but again that is just a render done by somebody, so it kind of has to be generic.
  4. Yeah - that was surprising, because I blew some black stuff out and wanted to check what it was and it turned out it was like 20 small black ants. Only two in the jet thought. My theory is that they somehow got into washer bottle, maybe an old story before I got the car... would be interesting to know how they made through washer pump and why they only decided to stay in passenger side jet and not both. Perhaps we will never know!
  5. Thanks, So it turns out I had ants blocking the jet and little return valve... so many of them that it could not even blow air into the pipe at first... little bit of poking and detergent and jet now works as it suppose to. Just make sure to get clips for hood insulation, as they very hard to remove and every second brakes At least these ones are kind of generic and cheap: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/392013723987
  6. Yes that is very true - preventative maintenance only, once actual metal is worn out put any additives you like it won't put the metal back in.
  7. My first suggestion would have been - alternator or battery. But as you said it was just replaced, then I would look into general ground issues, could be some crusty contacts somewhere. Basically, it seems like there is resistance to the ground, so when you turn something on it puts extra load on alternator. As well it is quite surprising because thing you mentioned are all very low power, I would expect it for heated seats/mirrors/windscreen/rear window, but not for cooled seats. As well when reversing it may be more to do with gear change than it is with reverse camera. In short - car should not be doing it and I would speculate it is electrical.
  8. I would assume it is from scratching the dip stick tube when pulling it out.
  9. MOT is due in couple of weeks time, so I was just going trough MOT checklist and noticed few unusual things in this old beastie. To my surprised was that brake fluid reservoir was full to the brim, at first I thought it was empty, but then when I removed cap I realised it is literally overflowing. Goon news it is clear yellowish/greenish fluid, so I assume someone have topped it up maybe before replacing brake pads (as I can see all the discs and pads are nearly new). So quite easy fix, just going to bleed the brakes until the level is just below maximum and that as well will act as little bit of brake flush which isn't bad thing considering the age of the car. Then I noticed that passenger side windscreen washer jet isn't working (most likely clogged). Would I be right to assume that both must be working to pass, so even thought single jet effectively covers and washes windscreen it would still fail?!
  10. Thanks, It is 2006 - basically my key issue is below: On IS250 there separate switch as part of Master windows switch and dedicated wiring for folding the mirror: On GS300 the switch is part of switch panel: As you can see above, there is no direct connection from mirror switch and mirror, the plug in picture is what wiring diagram has as "L12 - Outer mirror switch assembly", but if I am not missing anything it seems it is not electrically connected to mirror, rather communicates with RH/LH Door ECU via MPX? I guess I could connect to each mirror individually (green and blue wires to grey and white), but I can't figure out from where can I pick-up switch signal (the brown and orange wires). ----- Update: Just figured out what all wires on L12 does: Pink and Yellow - is BEAN network (MPX). Blue - B+ Black/White is obviously Ground Red is Intrusion sensor switch signal Light Blue and Black - headlight washer switch
  11. Generally speaking not much, but enough to cover all intake system in fine mist of burnt oil and petrol, and it is just nasty. I am sure somebody on here had catch can installed and after half of a year it was like 80ml of oil, less than quarter of catch can but as you can imagine, that is 80ml less dirt going trough the engine. And just generally, 80 ml does not sound like much, but imagine throwing a cup of dirty oil on intake manifold and how that would look.
  12. @ahmed24 - do you think same mod would work for GS300? I was comparing wiring diagrams to IS250 and just can't find the way to get to the same wires. At first glance seems like it would require to pull wires and connect to both Front Door ECUs separately for it to work. Any experience with these?
  13. It is dash out job, so quite substantial. Everything has to come apart as airbag sits under the dash. At least that is what manual requires. I reckon it would be possible to take it out by just removing glovebox, loosening one side of dash and pulling it down from below. When they did mine, they scratched few things as well and unusually for me I did not complain either. I think it was on the passenger side and I only noticed few days later, so felt it would be difficult to go back days later and tell it was their fault (kind of kicked myself for not inspecting/noticing it when picking-up the car). That said - sorry to point out the obvious, but complaining about something that was damaged years ago will be quite tricky. And dealer can justifiably say - why haven't you raised that when it was done. Not that I am saying you shouldn't raise it, but consider what you do yourself if somebody contacted you about something you did many years ago.
  14. The oily intake is "semi-normal". Basically, it is because of PCV, so oily gasses went into intake to burned-off as per design. However, depending on how oily your intake is that could as well be fault PCV system. In short - some oily residue in intake is normal with mileage, but loads of oily residue is not good. And all in all, oily residue causes more carbon build-up and not great for throttle body. To prevent that altogether you need to install oil catch can.
  15. I would get contact cleaner and a brush, clean all the wires and inspect them very carefully, even if they are not chewed trough completely, the insulation may be damaged to the point where they would short with each other. So inspect them very carefully and insulate any cables that look damaged. As for broken wire I think it would be safe to assume just connecting it together and insulating it should be enough. These wires in picture will be low voltage (less than 14.4V), so they don't require any special high voltage treatment. I am not really expects on hybrids, but on normal car I would disconnect starter (the normal lead-acid 12V) battery. Perhaps people who are more experienced on hybrids could advise if there is anything else to be disconnected when working on hybrid.
  16. Why? Just can't see how we can jump to this conclusion. Many cars have MOT, yet hey haven't been serviced at all, we just had this discussion with one member and he did not change even oils for two years, yet car had it's MOT. I actually can check how much it was serviced on Lexus App, but can can't be bothered because I would never be interested in Advance. Actually looking at MOT history, seems like car missed MOT several time, it is normally MOT'ed every March, but there are few May, Junes and Aprils... so it likely was standing and somebody forgotten MOT run out and they only realised by June. As well car can be SORN and and MOT'ed, so there is no reason to believe it was even on the road. The good is that there are no advisories, although it would be very strange to have advisories on 3000 miles car. That said car was likely last used ~2016-2017, since then 89-215 miles a year could be pretty much getting car MOT'ed and parked back home.
  17. Best of luck trying to sell it for that (and I mean it in good faith). Lexus mk2 price is ~£4,000. Give or take, very good examples sells for maybe £6,000... £7,000. So this being exceptional car with such a low miles, despite very low-end trim we can say it is more than that. It is exceptionally hard to sell above that range and you can't double the price of the model range just because car sat undriven for decade. Could it sells for over £10,000?! I think if the dealer is willing to wait forever, then sure, but this is not privately listed car, they need inventory to manage and rest assured they have got this car from relatives of some pensioner for £6,500 or something like that. So from their perspective it is better to move 10 cars a month with £2,000 margin on top, than sit on this car for a year trying to get £8,000 profit. For the buyer who is looking for Lexus mk2 IS250, anything over ~£6,500 are diminishing returns. £7000 buys you nice 2010+ F-Sport/SE-L/SE-i with decent miles, say 75k miles which would be expected for the age. Why would anyone spend any more money? It is not like there is any significant difference between the cars, okey 2011 got DLR, but lost ASF - is that really a reason to pay extra £1,000 or £2,000, to get DLR? And overall, what do you get in later car that is not provided by 2006 SE-L for £4000 (assuming both have FLSH and comparable condition)? As well don't forget Lexus itself is kind of niche, buyers are not lining up for these, £395 for road tax does not help, so this is not exactly desirable car in the market. As well, £10,000 is a lot for 11 years old car, £15,000 is not very realistic. Let's not forget that you have F-Sport which is the most desirable trim, and we talking about Advance here, which arguably is the least desirable trim. So if you list your car for say £8,250 (roughly in the middle of the range) I am sure you have better chance of selling your car, then they have chance to sell their for even £10,000. So why have they listed the car for £15,000 in the first place? Because they know they can lure somebody saying "look I make you amazing deal of this low mileage car, I give you £5000 discount" and this will look amazing for potential buyer, whereas realistically it is going to be just about alright. Well I guess caveat to all above - that applies to knowledgeable buyer who did research and know what is what. 90% of buyers have no clue, especially older buyers are completely naive and happy to take advise from sales person, so assuming buyer doesn't know what they are buying and what it is worth there is possibility for them to sell this car at any price. But then they are relaying on buyer ignorance rather than merits of the car.
  18. That shouldn't really be an issue, Lexus warranty is quite good, especially the 12 month sales one, because it works slightly differently from normal warranties, in a sense that you could argue even wear and tear items are included. It is more of Lexus promise to you that the car you buying is all in working order, rather than normal warranty where something may be broken but not covered. So the question is more whenever this fault existed before sale, or developed after sale. If you only owned the car for couple of months, then I can't see how they can say that creaking sunroof is caused by you.
  19. I was about to say £8k, but agree - there or thereabouts. Because anything over £10k and you are in a decent mk3 territory.
  20. Yes - that is real shame, I don't know what to do either, as for the older cars that do not get "Relax" warranty is doesn't make sense to pay full price service. That said my local Lexus Woodford/Hainaut said they would apply 20% off at their discretion. Still £300 for minor service is a bit much considering the only thing they do is oils and filters.
  21. They will... pattern for bolts are all the same across all years. Whenever features of seat will work that is another question e.g. memory, heating, cooling, airbags etc. So they will physically bolt on, but not necessarily are compatible electrically, at least not plug and play.
  22. 5 miles every Sunday going "to the church and back" - that would be salesman explanation. It is lovely car, sadly it is Advance, but it is not £15k in any world. Low mileage alone can't make it £15k.
