  1. I guess your previous Volvo had 10 times more reliable engine than IS220d. While I cannot advise it terms of how easy it is to do and how much performance/mpg it would give. The fact is that stock IS220d barely runs without failing and the only thing Lexus did to facelifted IS200d was reducing power to improve reliability and emissions... I would say - I strongly advised not to boost.
  2. Well ... I am sure this is not your sensitivity problem. Lexus is know for one of the smoothest gear changes. I have owned IS250 with various mileages and gear changes were always somewhere in between "super smooth" to "unnoticeable".
  3. These cars are very reliable and 123k nor 150k is non-issue if looked after. Mine is now over 150k without major issue. Lexus IS250 will always be much better value for money than BMW 325i and will come much better equipped. Not sure what you mean by SE - because SE is basic trim level, while SEL is the best. So I guess you need to be looking for SEL either with or without sat-nav. My advice don't take FSH as some kind of indicator - look what was actually done. Mine had £1200 spent on average during each service as was really well maintained. There are certain mileage related items e.g. Water pump .. if it is 123k it must have been replaced at least once. Average pump life time ~90k, mine one was replaced at 122k which is probably one of higher end of mileage. I would take this Lexus even with 200k miles without worries if history can prove all necessary work was done in timely manner. So when you take all service history invoices .. look for last 3-4 and check if there were no advisories which were not covered in subsequent services. Checking MOT advisories on DVLA can give some indication as well e.g. if tires, disks, pads were wearing low or car failing emission test - stay away, likely to be rough one. I would advise for back interior - obviously personal choice, but black one wears much better and I guess it becomes concern for high miles car. I have bough 2010 AWD with 40k km (~25k miles) light grey interior and it looked worn out and was very hard to clean. Even after professional cleaning it was looking like car had covered much more than those 25k miles. Some can be attributed to how previous owner was caring after it, but at the same time my current back interior after 150k+ miles still looks almost new... Finally, point about Sat-Nav... Had 2012 IS250 F-Sport with Sat-nav and later 2010 IS250AWD without it... my personal opinion Lexus IS sat-nav is sub-par to comparable models, screen is low resolution, not great in sunlight and very unresponsive to touch. If it happens to be in the car you looking after - great. If not it is nothing you would miss. I am using my phone for short journeys - just because of mealtime road alerts and proper sat-nav for longer journeys making sure maps are updated. Lexus sat-nav in not good for neither of those, map updates expensive and even then still missing many recent changes.
  4. I as about to point out - maybe you are in "PWR" (there is no S-mode on IS250 - S only enables paddles and sequential up/down shifts)? Though in PWR up ships are usually smooth (not different from Normal mode), only downshift kind of jerky and not well timed. My car is on much higher mileage, but transmission is super smooth... though transmission fluid was "topped-up" quite a few times in the past. And if I remember right it was done for first time at 60k+ full service.
  5. Yes that sounds about right - it is very efficient engine. You can get up to 40MPG, up to 90MPH... I have never seen 47... but that is because I never drive at 60. I often drive Romford to Luton and getting ~42MPG depending on the traffic. I am sure this is related to the way engine is well-paired with 6 speed auto gearbox and gear rations which allows low RPM at high speeds.
  6. I wonder how long you going to defend LPG as "never an issue" and mislead people to look for issues where they are unfounded. Fact is that 90k and 126k are very low miles for the engine and your point of pre-conditions is baseless. Maybe on 300k Petrol +100k on LPG engine it would make sense. My point - 90k for lexus/toyota engines are non-issue, but poorly installed LPG can hurt it in as few as 36k miles. LPG - little gain, huge gamble and risk - nothing else. I am not claiming LPG cannot be done right, but times and times again in reality it is rare and more often then not is bad for engines. Again this is just statement out of ignorance nothing else. If same cars on petrol are running for 200-300k miles and more without issues, how can you say that LPG conversion has nothing to do with engine which is failing on barely half the miles? I can pin-point where is you problem - you assume (without any reason) that all LPG conversions are done by qualified professionals at ProfGas for £1200 (or whatever other company you are recommending) and that who ever are the owners are generally maintaining car very well. My simply logic tells me that it is unlikely that somebody would spend £1200 for LPG conversion and another £800 on proper annual service for the cars which are worth maybe £1500 and which are already in poor condition. Unlikely... I do appreciate you take your car and your LPG with pride and can show good example of how car should be cared for and how LPG should have been installed to become an upgrade. But not all cars are the same especially with LPG conversions..
  7. Same was for me with the fuel sensor gasket replacement. It was pointed out by dealership for me when I booked service, but later cancelled - because "they have not received parts/instructions for replacement". That said the message you got is kind of premature... they know in advance which cars will require work, but only make parts available and local dealership aware when they have campaign official and communicates about it via DVLA. I believe this is understandable, because it is their duty to make sure safety recalls are properly communicated to everyone e.g. they don't want those recalls to be done on "case-by-case" basis whenever somebody pops-up, but rather via one single big campaign. Lets say Toyota site gives you a bit premature message..
  8. I would say nothing except of ordinary. I am sure they have marked me as trouble maker - because I have complained quite a lot because of number of mistakes they made last time. That said service was ok, they finally had my details right, I have received call confirming my service and courtesy car was made available. They have replaced only the gasket and not the sensor, when asked they said they only replacing sensors if one cannot be re-used e.g. damaged during replacement or already faulty. They have refilled about quarter of tank, so I would say ~15-20L which is nice. As well they did visual safety inspection (same as provided with service), but they didn't do video for it as other have mentioned. They called me hour later to say visual inspection is complete and about 2 hours later to confirm recall is finished, so I would say it took them about 1,5 -2h of work to do it, though I don't know in which order they did the cars (there were ~6 other IS for same thing that morning). Car was returned washed and vacuumed, which again is expected (to be fair I have never liked quality of was and vac from Lexus, but it is great price/quality ration... simply because it is free). Overall, nothing bad or good - just a casual service. I wouldn't be worried about taking car there. Maybe last time was unfortunate for them. P.S. they in progress moving from Toyota building to refurbished Lexus building nearby, so make sure you check where you need to come. They are next 2 each other, but if you drive to Toyota one first you will need to do large circle to get back to Lexus.
  9. What is the point of fault codes, when the OP clearly indicated - valves had burned through by poorly installed/adjusted LPG.
  10. Because that is his IS250 in picture, not the IS-F he is referring to. Anyway Carl.. we have already discussed this particular Lexus IS-F being overpriced... not that long ago, see below: http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/108206-over-priced/ I am sure it is nice and looks like new (because it is), but there are no way to explain the price point. You can have 4 years newer RC-F, with 10k more miles (so 15k in total - still nearly new car) for the same price. Lexus should know it better than anyone else...
  11. Well.. as I said "based on the picture". As explained by OP the damage is much more structural... Again that doesn't mean it can be done correctly and again it doesn't mean it would be worth the price. The problem with unsafe repairs is when they done wrong and I am not in favor of cars such cars. Back in my country they would just replace doors, remove shot airbags (if smarter maybe put some fake/empty bags in these to make it harder to notice)... bend back the rest of the shape and a lot of filler... Definitely, not a safe car and not the way to do it right. I would strongly support motion for such "mechanics" to be prosecuted myself. In the same situation it probably would be no different to what happened now even after poor repair, but direct hit to the side would be definitely much more painful. That said I agree - better stay away from poorly repaired cars, because you cannot choose at which angle and side you going to get hit
  12. Somehow I wouldn't agree.. (maybe my easter european blood). There is nothing you can not repair - other question if is financially feasible to make it right or not? Picture is pretty blurry so hard to tell for sure, but it looks like easy swap of 2 doors, more expensive and complex bit is rear quarter panel, but can be easily sourced and replaced. The expensive parts comes where airbags needs to be replaced, driver seat, headlining. Putting in financial perspective Doors £300, airbags alone would be probably £1500, driver seat £150, rear panel £800 with painting, all miscellaneous parts maybe another £300. Another option is to find write-off IS220d in matching colour which currently can be found for £900-£1500 for whole car from auctions. Obviously, Lexus new parts would be astronomical price. I am not suggesting to repair it, just saying it can be done and can be done right. Probably cat-d, hope they not going to crush it.
  13. Is that carbon vinyl on your console? or you recently changed to IS-F? Looks good - I was never fan of wood trim.
  14. That is my point. I wouldn't want to upset sensors.. I guess any other power source is fine, but not sensors.. because they might be very sensitive to voltage changes etc. Though as Garry reports it works this way - I wouldn't be confident it is the case for all DVRs (especially higher end and more power hungry)..
  15. As long as tires are worn evenly, there should be no issue on alignment side. as other said 46psi are very high pressure. I don't know where the figure came from, but standard is 35 for front and 38 for rear. I found this pressure too low and it was causing outside wear for my tires, which would indicate too low pressure (usually run Dunlop sportmaxx). After replacing all tires I have now inflated front to 38psi, rears to 40psi, which I found as a good balance between wear, fuel economy and comfort. Rear tires were replaced 12k miles ago and worn just about 2mm, which I consider very good wear. Now the reason of excessive wear could be very high pressure (46psi), or maybe batch of tires, maybe they were old batch? I believe you referring to Ventus S1 evo 2 as there are no such tires as Evo S2 http://www.hankooktire.com/uk/passenger-cars/hankook-ventus-s1-evo2-k117.html That said I would point out that even Hankook list they wear as below average (See performance/wear - 4/10). Together with over inflation I guess that is your answer. Hope you going to get better wear on new set. Good luck!
  16. As other I is good to hear that no one injured, though still quite sad to see the car being written-off - especially such good example. Hope insurance going to come up with reasonable figure.
  17. That is the reason for my question, because those sensors are know for being quite sensitive (I guess that is the point of sensor). I don't see how aux can provide enough power for DVR... many of which uses 5V 1A (the least) power. Unless you mean aux as cigarette lighter.
  18. What about local lift? aka Taxi on behalf of Lexus? or assuming you taking train, why not pick-up and drop-off service? At least I hope buses in your place are less disgusting as ones in London.
  19. That is interesting read... It is funny enough I have just got invitation to BMW show sometime in July which includes test drive i8 and dinner, even though I have never spent a penny on BMW in UK, only had subscribed for their newsletters online (kind of opposite from you). I cannot say I spent a lot on my Lexus in this country, nor I am regular customer at Lexus Woodford (though one time there was enough for me - was actually horrible). I don't remember any communication from dealer in my country either (were I bough new IS 250 f-sport .. back in 2012). I do believe different dealers does things differently and it might be that only Woodford is so bad. I would like to believe other dealerships are better, sadly only other dealership close to me is South-end and it doesn't work on Saturdays, which is very inconvenient. That said, I believe this is exactly the problem - I expect uniform service from any Lexus dealership as reps of the marque, even if I am not regular customer there.. they represent manufacturer and if I get crap service, that might result in me going with other manufacturer. Lucky for Lexus I know their cars and would but them regardless of the dealership experience. I guess I cannot make any opinion before visiting few other dealer, but for sure if somebody asks me - Woodford is the one to avoid. Else I might be not the target customer (too young).. I believe for Lexus as well as for Porsche the target market is 40+ males.. That would at least explained why I am not invited to the midlands party ( but I guess many other are not invited as well)...
  20. While I believe this is relief for many IS220d owners and generally for diesel owners. I just wanted to point out that DPF is there of one solid reason - diesel cars are not very - lets say "clean". That means DPF is needed to stop poisonous and deadly pollutants to get out of the car and kill me, you, my family and all other strangers who are unfortunate to be near the exhaust pipe of vehicle which have DPF "deleted". That said I strongly believe such changes should be very least banned or even punished. Similar story goes for Catalyst converters "deletion". Now the reason I post is not to ruin your day or celebration of the discovery. I know how much problems DPF and ERGs made to IS220d and other later diesel car owners. Instead I would like to see someone to come up with the facts and maybe prove me wrong (hopefully). Until then, I do believe it is immoral to drive the car which pollutes more for some limited personal benefit.
  21. I would guess maybe windshield was replaced ? A lot of problems on IS250/220d after windshield replacement, so I believe IS-F no different here. Check for related topics..
  22. In fact I would be surprised if they were to wire it all the way to engine compartment and fuse box. It can be simply tucked to cigarette lighter loop under the dash (again sounds more likely than wire to engine compartment). Otherwise, there might be some wiring already the cabin, which was designed to accommodate some kind of accessories and it was matter just to add fuse to that particular the loop. There are quite a few unused fuse sockets however it is hard to tell which of those are can actually enable existing loop.. One thing I am sure - they do not take wire all the way from cabin to engine compartment..
  23. Yeah... I guess I need to take a note of the date, to make sure I avoid the area... otherwise looking to all those IS-F might drive me mad.
