  1. Yes - I appreciate your point of view and that is good approach. Just pointed out that trying to protect your car may actually cause higher monetary damage in the ends - at least I guess one could feel better that scumbags got nothing out of it.
  2. ...Or the countries with more appropriate roads for the times than UK. In fact most city streets have light already, so I don't see how AHB would help. That said, some A and especially B roads are outright dangerous and would not be considered fit for use in other countries. I am sure I haven't mistaken LED lights - on NX'es they were on full high beam blinding me. Potential explanation is that AHB was masking the car in front, but did not spot me coming ahead, so didn't mask the angle I coming from. That said, all similar system I have seen which supposedly keeps high-beam, but blocks the traffic in front not to bling never works. This is not Lexus issue - same applies to BMW or Audi. They are ok on like A-road where you have 2 lanes and maybe one car in front of you and one coming from ahead. But once you on motorway with 8 lanes and 50 cars to track these systems will always blind somebody.
  3. That does not help - if they can't get catalyst converter , they will simply smash your windows from frustration. I tend to put blame elsewhere - as a society we have accepted Police inactivity, and likewise Police have pretty much decriminalised any car related crimes. They won't even come to inspect the scene and won't start investigation. Nowadays they simply say - "if there were no injuries - claim insurance". So in such situation criminals are taking advantage - they know nobody will be coming after them, so they becoming especially blatant nowadays e.g. doing it in broad daylight and we paying ever increasing insurance costs: .
  4. As a seller, you have duty to describe your good accurately to best of your knowledge - if you don't, then you are at very least negligent. On top of that if you genuinely interested in fair transaction then taking any ambiguity away from the description is simply good practice. This is not legal requirement, but certain description could be misleading e.g. "excellent runner" implies car is mechanically sorted. So you would want to avoid it unless that is absolutely true - just saves the trouble. The second one simply means - this is not our opinion, this is simply the laws in UK. You may dislike them, but this doesn't makes us wrong - we just explaining you that Dudley dealer broke the laws and therefore his sentence is justified.
  5. I do know, not sure if that is being "devil's advocate" or ignorance or both. I never said I am immune from occasional hypocrisy... However, highway code is not the law, there are only by-laws which dictates what happens when you caught braking rules (namely the Road Traffic Act). So speeding is not illegal, but getting caught can have consequences. I was afraid to make this connection, just in case I upset you in particular 😁 libel laws et al.
  6. I provided that as example to make it clearer for you what separates negligence from fraud. The part where Dudley seller got his criminal record is changing description after the fact: This not only proves that he knew the about the fault, but as well decided to deliberately hide it - so fraud. Criminal deception is still fraud, so sorry if my use of "fraud" in broad and generic way. You may not like the law which required people to be truthful, but that does not make you immune from it.
  7. You have ignored what I have said, so I am not going to repeat myself indefinitely and this is last post to explain it to you if it is still not clear. If it is true - e.g. "Lexus LS400 - body very good, normal wear and tier for mileage, otherwise excellent runner." - there is no issue with this. However, if you know there is engine fault and check engine light is on and you further go ahead and blank/disconnect that light to hide the fault, then "excellent runner" part of your description is lie. Then it comes to proving this in court of law - if you said "excellent runner" and it turn outs that engine is blown, then you can pretend to be stupid and say "I didn't know, the buyer did test drive and I am none the wiser". This will fly if you private seller, not so much if you car dealer. So I would say as long as you didn't intentionally hide anything from buyer, you should be alright as private seller, the levels of your own morale can decide - sort of "I didn't lie but I haven't said all the truth either". If you blanked the check engine light to hide this fact, this straight away proves you are lying and thus liable in this case - this would be all the evidence court needs to establish the fact you were indeed lying and instruct you to cover the cost. However, there is one step further and this is where Dudley seller got his criminal record - if you blanked the engine light, sold the car and retrospectively updated the advert to say - "Lexus LS400 - body very good, normal wear and tier for mileage, otherwise excellent runner potential engine fault and check engine light broken" then it this elevates your sentence from civil offence to criminal one - this is fraud. Try to read it carefully this time and maybe you could identify the lines which separates lack of knowledge, from negligence and finally from fraud.
  8. If you are incapable of describing car correctly, or unwilling to take liability - then yes you shouldn't. Describing any goods for sale correctly (especially cars) is not a question of personal taste or preference - it is legal requirement. However, as private individual (rather than car dealer) your liability is much less... especially if you trade in the car or sell it to say car trader, then it is their own liability to check what they buying and offer the price based on their own inspection. For this reason they generally leave themselves generous margin off error and offer bottom prices just in case they miss some fault. Obviously, you cannot lie even to them - if you know there is engine fault and you have just masked the "check-engine" light it is still fraud and they can sue you for damages. In the end of the day, it is up to you what you going to do with your used cars - but be aware that if you are unable to be truthful about condition of the car, then you may join Dudley guy in the courtroom.
  9. Yeah, but as well it is specific model dependent. B&O in A6, may be worse than one in S7 and better than RS4. Similarly, here even thought CT, IS, RC, LS and other Lexus models have ML, it does not mean that ML is equally good on all models. I heard as well that in previous ES (mk6) the ML system was better than current gen ES (mk7). So sound test is required during test drive to really check this.
  10. Not sure about that, the quality of his cars may be considered acceptable there and even within law? As well more-likely stabbed repeatedly with pitch-fork rather than shot - but that is different topic.
  11. What I have said in 4th line is factual, but even if it is just my opinion, the Law of libel only protects individuals. So it cannot be applied even if I am "smearing" the brand (hence the confusion). What you have in mind is probably "trade libel" which is when competitor smears other competitor product - again does not apply here as I am individual and not competitor to Tesla. Either way, Tesla quality is factually very poor... some of their ideas are great but quality is poor. Certainly worse then any established automaker (ahem ... not sure about JLR thought).
  12. Is it rather 3rd line you have in mind? Although, Law of Libel only comes into play if I would unreasonable smear persons name. Elon Musk has lied many times on record and has even paid fines for it, so that is unfortunately a fact. He is great businessman and potentially a genius, but I am afraid trustworthy he isn't! If CNN can do it, then surely I can https://bit.ly/2HNAoXj (1) I would imagine you have 7/8" screen (not 10.25"). Yes it is dated and since have been replaced with 10.25" which is completely sufficient for intended purpose - see like 10 post above. Large touchscreen in the car is simply bad design ergonomically. Although I do agree, the screen could be higher resolution and graphics could be nicer, but especially smoother. (2) not sure what you mean with HUD not offered? Yes you need to go for standard F-Sport to get the digital HUD, but that is the same for all makes. Entry level BMW 3-Series does not have digital HUD, even the latest one launched this year. You cannot expect to take lowest spec. car and get all the gizmos. What is more, even if you upgrade with BMW/MB/Audi etc. I don't think their digital HUD is as good as Lexus. Lexus design is just so much cooler and original. Although it is fairly limited in functionality, but it does what it needs to do in the end of day. (3) that is not true, some got one but not the other etc. There are still plenty cars without carplay/android auto. Yes Lexus was ~2-3 years late to introduce it in UK (but they introduced it in limited models in US straight away). Either way - as of today 2020 models suppose to have it. (4) sadly this is not possible on most of the cars, not only Lexus. If they fitted the system which cannot be upgraded, then it means you have to change whole unit, which is not simple software update. Sometimes it is, but often it isn't. Either way, I think the only reasonable comparison we can make is looking at 2020 Lexus models and comparing them with other brands of same year. When making such comparison I cannot see much of specific features missing. Please let me know if I have missed something major.
  13. It has nothing to do with this. The only obligation seller has is to describe the car correctly - if it has wear an tear - fine, 30 years old - fine, million miles - fine, previous write-off - fine, even blown engine is fine. As long as this is what it says in the description! However, if description says car has done only 80k, when it did 500k, if it says car is in great condition, bet exhaust is fixed with bear can and air suspension collapsed, if it says engine is smooth when actually the bearing is spun, if it says car never had an accident when it is CAT-S insurance write-off - that is fraud my friend. Equally, nobody is asking seller to know all the faults, it is just not possible to list every small detail on 30 years old car. And that is where "statutory rights" comes in, meaning that you can go back to seller and say - "there was a fault which was not listed and thus should be addressed". Seller has to honour this, or if the seller thinks you are unreasonable, he can refund you and take car back. What seller cannot do is to deliberately miss the detail in description and once you buy the car, update the description to cover himself from liability - that is again fraud. So nobody is asking sellers to only sell "perfect cars", what sellers are required to do is to describe the faults and condition accurately to best of their knowledge.
  14. I was going to airport last Wednesday and on my journey I had 3 cars driving with high-beam and blinding me... I was like "you f****.... ohh wait that is Lexus NX - they surely have AHB?!"
  15. @Stompe - yes car is not great place for audiophile, but it could be made bearable by some systems. Lexus entry level system is not the one which I would consider "bearable". As I said, if you into listening to radio in the car, it is only good for that - don't try listening to musing on it thought. @SJT - yes CT is not great representative of Lexus as a brand. I see it as missed opportunity really, because the only logic to have such entry level car is to attract young buyers into brand. This means CT should be loss leader - "too good of the deal", it should give good impression so that somebody would upgrade from CT to other models in the future. Sadly, none of that is true about CT. The only Lexus quality it has - it is reliable... so is Toyota Auris which is as well available as hybrid. Frankly one would not miss much going for Auris.
  16. Toyota Century is only sold in Japan - whereas I appreciate their philosophy and Lexus at some point was inspired by same philosophy as well... I don't think it works outside of Japan. That said I feel from design perspective new Lexus'es are on par with their competitors (caused some shock with original owners base). On contrary Tesla design is just bland (they call it minimalist thought). When it comes to tech again - it may not be in your face on Lexus, but if we look at 2020 line-up I don't really see area where Lexus is specifically behind competition (Tesla is not Lexus competitor, because it is not even Luxury brand). Now admittedly what happened here - "EV fashion" mostly impacted Luxury car sales. Why?! Because people who could generally afford luxury cars are more affluent, educated and thus more aware about environmental issue + their peers are the same. This means having cheaply build and terrible EV is status symbol for them and they would feel bad driving around in 2.5L V6 "gas-guzzler". Further, everyone knows that Tesla is expensive, the liar Elon does good job hyping it for less smart so we have paradox - a cheaply build EV being perceived by society as luxury and futuristic, whilst any entry-level brand (Dacia, Hyundai, Seat etc.) have far superior build quality and reliability. Let me just repeat - Tesla has no autonomous driving, their "beta" autopilot is not autonomous and will not be autonomous and not tech in their cars are really that impressive. The only difference from other makers is that Tesla sells their "vision" and allows unfinished products to be used by consumer. In that regard they again are very similar to Apple - not only (and surprisingly) they can get away with that, but they even advertise it as advantage - "look how cool we are - we allow you to use unfinished autonomous, but not truly autonomous mode, so that you can risk your life testing it for us... ohhh and we going to give you opportunity to spend £10000 to have this privilege of being free test resource for us!" Well, you can still do that in Tesla, as you have control for that on the steering wheel - god forbid "physical buttons"! But then this just proves that massive central screen is useless for driver.
  17. In some way I agree - there is quite a of of research done in "music quality" and conclusion is that music "complexity, variety and quality" is much worse nowadays. On top of that the speakers and amplifiers are so much cheaper nowadays per watt that anyone could easily build 10,000W system for under £1000. So simply abundance of poor quality music and equipment could lead into problems. However, when we are talking about 6-speakers entry level system in Lexus there is no confusion, it is literally trash quality speakers and they sound awful and any volume. 10-speaker Pioneer (premium sat-nav) and 13-17-speaker ML systems are more or less on par. Yes they are no loud, but your argument would be correct here - they are good quality.
  18. To be honest I constantly being dazzled by specifically NX'es driving on high beams... I wonder why... 😁
  19. I guess back in the day when they costed like £80k new, they were not terribly competitive cars. But in used market they are quite amazing value for money (sorry to late to hide it to me) 😁
  20. In that case you honestly not missing much. ML has better placement of the speakers and more clarity, but less bass. If you fan of classic music then ML is outright better, but for hip-hop actually it may be other way around. Further, CT does not even get 17 speaker ML, but rather older 13 speaker ML which was fitted since beginning (like 2011) - P47:http://forms.lexus.co.uk/ebrochures/Lexus_CT_e-brochure.pdf?ac=C5534&mc=IPRMC010&URN=0
  21. nahhhh... to young for that. And when working from home it is enough to wake-up 8:45 and turn on PC, so I can afford staying late
  22. Likely... unless I find something more, new or exciting to share 🤐
  23. I assume he just doesn't drive Lexus'es to know. Although, it is kind of his job to know as an "objective motor journalist".... In fact the only grudge I have against all TG and GT over the years, is that they voted SC as worst car of the century... I still cannot agree with that!
  24. @paulrnxSo.... lets start with the bad: Engine is absolute disaster! I already explained intricacies with short power band, gearing, noise, but to add to it - fuel consumption is ridiculous! I really genuinely believed that trade-off between 2.5L V6 and 2.0L 4LT was that you loose linearity, sound and response, but you get slightly better fuel economy. Short answer - NO... ok maybe when just cruising on motorway... NO... maybe in some circumstances like in laboratory whilst moving through vacuum - NO! During lock-down I didn't commute to work, so ~90% of 3000 miles were on motorways which were completely empty and I just sat on cruise control all the time. Can you guess what is my MPG? I just going to give figure for comparison - in same conditions IS250 would have done 38-44MPG. As well I would add that RC-F MPG is literally better on average. Indicator switches/stalks (as well affects IS mk3 and GS mk4). Not much to say there - Lexus tried, failed and gone back to proper indicators. I may look into retrofitting them, but honestly I neither plan to keep the car long enough, nor I love it enough to do it. Cruise control - it is the same "analog" system Lexus/Toyota fitted in their cars probably since 1998. It was sort of acceptable in my IS250 (but it was 2008 car, not 2016). What is the problem with the system? Basically on most cruise controls, 1 click goes up by 1miles (sometimes 5), double-clicks goes to next round number and if you hold it then it will go up/down until you release it. RC (and older Lexus) does not have "rounding" but, in theory small adjustments should work (they worked on my IS250), but on RC they don't work - when you click once sometimes speed does not change at all, sometimes it changes by 2 or 3 or even 5 miles. Secondly, RC200t does not stick to the set speed - I mean single purpose of cruise control is to keep constant speed and it fails to do it! Just last week I was driving through roadworks with 50MPH limit and it was embarrassing, car at times would get as slow as 46MPH (I set it to 52!) and on the other times it would approach 56MPH (56 actually = 50). I suspect this again all to do with engine and gearbox, on the incline car simply does not have enough power to keep the speed and starts slowing down, then it changes the gear down starts accelerating and the blows past the set-speed. The speed varied on IS250 as well, but it would vary by 1 mile at most - not 6! Either way, this should not be the case. Just to *****-me off even further I got 2017 NX as loaner and cruise control works perfectly - has 1 mile adjustments, double-click to next limit and keeps the speed perfectly (the stalk looks the same). I am thinking maybe I need to ask Lexus to check it, maybe it is faulty? Boot closing - it really seems to me like Lexus could have included electronic closing at this price point. It is not helped by the fact that struts are so potent I have to slam the boot very hard to close it. IS250 was not perfect, but it would simply unlatch when opened and was balanced well enough that you can open it with small finger, for closing - it would as well close with very little force and little press would latch it locked. --------- Actually, I didn't much new that surprised me in a good way (except 1), but general list is below: It looks stunning It has all options which were available on this car It is very rare and has presence above it's class (~BMW 4-Series) = to 6-Series BMW (even approaching 8-series), MB E-Class... people simply don't know what it is and what to think about it. If I park it next to £100k BMW 8 most people would not be able to tell which cars is "cool" or even more expensive... Certainly, nobody would guess it costed less than £20k. It is unusual/original - people don't know if the car is slow or if it is fast (I am sure they assume it is very fast). Point is - it attracts a lot of positive attention. It has most of conveniences I need in the car, phone connects automatically, music starts playing automatically, seats/mirrors/steering wheel adjust automatically, light adjust automatically. So you literally don't need to do anything when getting into the car - keep keys/phone in the pocket, everything is keyless/wireless. What else do you need from Luxury car?! It is very practical with folding rear seats. I never understood why Lexus decided not to give IS folding rear seats, but RC for that reason alone actually turned out to be more practical car. I been in IKEA - it did better than RC. We even fitted 2 bicycles inside (took of wheels and they fitted) and went for hiking/cycling with my girlfriend. I couldn't do that with IS, so was surprised. --------- Few points which are neither here nor there: People complain that rear is cramped, leg-room/headroom is bad. Just reality of having coupe, my answer is: "this is not a taxi!"😁 I still use my phone as navigation, Lexus sat-nav and voice commands are next to useless, but hey! I knew it before buying. Android auto would be perfect thought - could be retrofitted for full Android infotainment system, but car just isn't worth £800 investment. The driver seat failed and there is story with brakes, but I don't hold it against the car or the brand - kind of maintenance thing. --------- In summary, what this car is missing to be perfect (and I mean not "better", but perfect): Different engine - 450h or 350 would be perfect, better power, better fuel economy, more responsive, better sounding... 200t has no redeeming features in comparison. Not much else to say here. Equipment in line with same model year SUVs, if they simply take tech they have in NX of same year it would be great car. I still don't understand why same priced and same year NX is just so much better equipped and up-to date?! Why NX has new and perfectly working cruise control, where RC does not. NX gets electronic boot closing, 360 degree camera, electronic/automatic parking brake/button, wireless charging for phone, glass roof - it even has proper indicator stalk! I guess this is all because RC was based on IS tech, but still one would not expect such discrepancy within the same brand. P.S. @royoftherovers - sorry mate, this one had to be long 😅
  25. Yes indeed there are such numpties, but then we are talking about two completely different cases: is having decent audio system that you could use to enjoy music in your car, not necessary very loud, but clear and deep. Well made systems with ~400-1000W does it well. I would say any reason to have any more than 1000W (like new LS has 2400W, some Bentleys have 2800W) is not to make it louder, but to allow for more adjustment. You can as well achieve excellent sound quality whilst keeping the system at say 20-30%. are show cars and some real idiot drivers who drive show cars on the street and blast their music to show off. Do you want to guess how much watts they have in their cars? Mate... they can easily have 8 or more subs with 10k (EACH!).We talking about the systems with 200,000+ Watts. I seen van with 20 of these + 30 other speakers - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ground-Zero-15SPL-Subwoofer-10000-black/dp/B003TSD57K . There are versions with 20,000W - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/253972541711?var=0 and here you are concerned about legality of 400w system with 200w subwoofer... Should this be illegal on street? - yes I agree it should be. I mean they pushing 170dB on some of the systems and that is literally dangerous levels of noise which could cause permanent hearing loss. So if you hear somebody driving, with music so load that entire neighbourhood windows are shaking... they will have systems with well in excess of 10,000W.
