  1. No they don't filter the frequencies, that is why I suggested retrofitting aftermarket filter/crossover. If you play very bassy song on standard system it just sounds terrible as all frequencies are sent to all speakers and probably only the the tweeters have a filter. Overall, I think frequency filters/crossover controls are really fitted into mid-range amps or built-in head units. This is kind of feature of high end systems. But in other hand - what is the point, most high-end component speakers usually comes with their own crossover and all decent coaxials have them built-in. High level input is an option, but I hope there is a better way, because rear speaker would have it split into L/R already and that is not ideal.
  2. I didn't say it is good car, nor it is fast of performance car, what I said is that it is smooth - not hunting gears and I didn't feel torque dips or plateaus. It almost feels like electric, as if it pulls from 0 to 200 in single gear. Would I buy it, probably not - not my type of car. But was it comfortable, luxurious and effortless to drive - yes it was. And it was the only car with turbo engine and those stupid "million" gear gearboxes, where I didn't mind the set-up, nor noticed any turbo lag, input lag, gear hunting or other hesitation.
  3. Not sure... it isn't for me... not the sound of vacuum cleaner is that satisfactory compared to magnificent note of V8. The only car where I didn't mind it was new MB E300 (still tiny 2l turbo), somehow 9speed box there managed it in the way that I didn't feel it shifting at all and it was quite effortless. On all other cars I just feel them shifting and kind of hunting for gears, not at all luxurious if you ask me.

  6. I thought we are talking about IS300h here ? 😁 Because in that case I have seen IS220d with 374k and IS250 with 246k, my old one is now 195k as well. And I am sure there are higher miles cars... I think there is one member on here with 360k SC430 (is not more).
  7. I wonder what that would be considering he paid 1200 for IS300h. Actually sounds rather unbelievable that anyone would sell the car for that price - it coust triple that in parts alone. The highest I seen on sale in UK was 190~ something. I don't think I seen any above 200k yet.
  8. Ohhh, c'mon are you telling me now that Audi with it's "wooden" AWD steering/handling is better sports car than M4. I would not agree with that. As well AMG are more Luxurious that they are performance/sport, handling on both Audi and MB is below M-cars, I would argue even below Lexus. So if we say "sports cars" then M is most sporty from the lot for sure, obviously if we then compare it with Porsche then yes it is not the same, but neither is the price. I feel like we discussing moot point, we seem to agree Lexus makes luxury cars and not sports cars... and for what it is I consider large NA to be most suitable for Luxury car... and we don't agree what is better and we don't need to agree what is better, I am just saying I prefer the way NA delivers the power as long as there is enough of it... and 470hp is certainly enough and 4s to 60 is enough like wise. Especially if you just want to daily it rather than win competitions on track.
  9. I tend to prefer facts over the nice messages, and whereas I agree Colin sometimes make quite "snappy" responses I must agree he is almost always factually right. Cannot argue with that!
  10. ok. In either case there should be a way to pick-up the signal, only that it won't be marked "like-out or sub" and may require getting adapter or tapping into wiring. I would always advice getting adapter or making one, rather than messing-up with factory loom.
  11. Ok... I have educated myself now and indeed it seems like decent consumer product (indeed no fillers) and based on M102 compound with more lubricants etc. to make it more dummy friendly. Sadly (or luckily) in my experience I just skipped past consumer products and right into professional ones, but I appreciate that for somebody who just wants to address few scratches on the car and don't want to jump into car detailing and invest hundreds into all equipment something like Meguiar's Ultimate Compound could be good enough. I would note that from what I seen the results by hand are marginal at best and you really need to use machine to use full potential of this compound. That said by the time you get the machine polisher, probably there are better products which both cuts quicker and finishes better (likely in 2 stages). So overall.. I learned something new today and agree it is not bad product, but considering how involving is detailing process I would not waste my time with it, but that is because I have all tools and compounds to do it professionally. If I had nothing then maybe it is worth a shot and it is cheap as well. Finally, as I said I would go G3 way - it is quicker to work with and capable of removing quite deep scratches (more aggressive, so don't use it on machine). Other option is Gtechiq P1, it is good for scratches removal, but not great for good finish as it is not diminishing compoind.
  12. Assuming you are right about both head units being Pioneer, then it seems logical there must be something for sub. Or at least there should be a way to tap-in or adapter. Because is head unit has not changed between the systems and Premium one has sub, then there must be a way. Obviously as you said Premium system has dedicated amp and that is how it drives the sub, but in that case adding additional sub-amp should not be any different than Lexus adding amp for everything.
  13. I guess that is my only reason not to have it... as physical buttons are just so much easier to use compared to rather insensitive touch screen of this era. But at least you have repeater buttons for key functions. Reverse camera is actually useful and for F-Sport you should already have "smart guide lines" (basically they change when you turn the wheel) - older models just had static ones. Good luck with the purchase!
  14. In my experience black cars are worst for scratches and imperfection being visible - grey is the way to go (they look crap either way 😁 and you can see scratches). Not sure about Meguiar's Ultimate compound either - never liked polishes with fillers (gives fake results) and doing entire car by hand... well good luck!
  15. Adding simple active-sub would definitely improve things as main weakness of the system is no base at all (besides being overall underpowered), but it would not be perfect. Sadly, on standard system crossover is poor, because instead of focusing on mid-range and treble system tries to cover full range without dedicated sub-woofer. Meaning that once you go past ~ 60% of sound speakers just starts making terrible noise and blurring over frequencies. I am not expert, but maybe adding active sub-woofer and retrofitting crossovers/filters to existing speakers would be decent solution e.g. that woofers in the doors would not even attempt any frequencies below say 500Hz and then each speaker could do it's own "role". Actually, just seen this and thought you may be interested if looking for compact-active sub - something like this (not necessarily this particular, but overall form-factor): https://www.amazon.co.uk/VIBE-OPTISOUND-SUBWOOFER-SLIMLINE-ENCLOSURE/dp/B00DSNBWS0/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=vibe+active&qid=1614448730&sr=8-4 I doubt it would fit under the seat in IS, but it is compact and as well if you not planning to add additional speakers this is just the right power - 600w sub would be waste as it would overpower 80W speakers very quickly and you would need to set-it to 25% power anyway.
  16. Yes you right on above, which in my opinion further support NA V8, If they would be outright sports car like BMW M3/M4 then turbo would probably make more sense. I would add that beauty of having power high in rev range in real life driving situation where your "time" does not matter... is that you can accelerate without even changing the gear at all (just downshift once and stay in it). On NA car that is probably the fastest way anyway, whereas in turbo car you are better off upshift once car plateaus.
  17. So fan not off... it is basically on auto. Because if you change fan settings I believe it automatically disables auto. In short I think you right - climate on Lexus works like any other cars. Set it to auto and it will determine what fan speed needs to be. AC on? and Dual off?

Well... on that one I have made few threads in the past 😄 I think simply not using "sport" anywhere near these cars would already be good start, just to manage the the expectations of potential buyers. And I agree with rest of your points - for massive company with best engineers in the world it should have been possible to design something better, both performing better, sounding better and more economical at the same time. Overall, 300h for me always looked like a little bit lazy attempt - they just made on the basis of "good enough". @ColinBarber - yes it is mute point, always been. And indeed making 4GR more efficient/suitable for hybrid would make it less powerful. I would still prefer V6 any day over L4. And as per above - marketing car more realistically would help as well. Having better choices in UK would help, having plug-in hybrid version would help etc. Overall, I am not sure what Lexus tried to achieve this mk3 IS - the range just never been really competitive, especially in UK. Competitors certainly delivered more diverse range, both more powerful cars for those who wants power and more economical cars for those who wants economy... and competitors took advantage of government taxation as well (we can see sharp decline in 300h sales as soon as emission were reduced to 75g for company cars) - because they didn't introduce plug-in hybrid. Being only reliable sadly does not sell cars, especially new ones - it becomes more relevant on used market.
  19. On first part I agree .. kind of. Lexus wanted to make an engine which has smaller emissions on paper and faulty test methodology. Indeed 2AR-FSE seems to be more economical engine will lover emissions that 4GR-FSE. But I would like to emphasise the part on paper and in test methodology - this does not translate into real-life Both engines are 2.5L, but 4GR-FSE is 37hp more powerful (212hp vs 175hp in most powerful versions of either engine). The quoted 223HP on 2AR-FSE is with hybrid engine and this figure is highly misleading as it is simply adding HP of ICE and HP of electric engine, whereas in reality they reach they maximum HP at different times so at no point IS300h makes 223hp, the other figure sometimes seen on adverts is 181hp and that is closer to reality. Besides whole hybrid system is far heavier than just ICE. So saying that 4GR-FSE is heavier is wrong and saying that it is less powerful is also wrong. Even if we just look to dry weight of both ICE engines 4GR-FSE would not be much heavier, because it does not require as many counterbalances as 4L. Now indeed it is less economical, but that is because it does not have Atkinson cycle and because it is ICE only, a lot of economy on hybrid is achieve by combining it with batter and electric engine. Just look at economy of the engine when it runs on its own e.g. just cruising on motorway at 70MPH - what is the result - basically the same fuel economy. Besides, I didn't say take 4GR-FSE as is any just attach hybrid to it... I said they should have updated it to be more economical and more powerful. No if we just assume electric engine makes 48hp (difference between claimed total power and ICE power), then 300h based on 4GR-FSE (or after upgrades FXE) should have had at least 260hp and theoretically should have had similar economy. Now granted it would not match fake emissions on paper, but I reckon real emissions on road would have been similar if not better. And as well, this is not even that far fetched. 450h is literally 350 (2GR-FSE) mated to hybrid system and with added Atkinson cycle (2GR-FXE)... and it is great system. Finally, this is just hypothetical scenarios invented by type expert on the forum, Toyota engineers obviously had better understanding and didn't just decided to waste billion developing new engine if they had perfect one on the shelf. The only problem is that their goals may not be something generally considered to be a good thing my actual drivers e.g. maybe goals were to make engine cheaper, emissions smaller.. and that is at the cost of nice sounding, more responsive and more powerful engine.
  20. The manufacturers are different, size is probably the same. 6 speakers are made by Pioneer and 8/10 speakers by Panasonic (or maybe other way around).

I have argued previously that instead of wasting money on developing the engine Lexus could have used 4GR-FSE with little updates - like adding secondary port injection, adding Atkinson cycle (like in newer 2UR) and then pugging hybrid on top... like a baby 450h. I think that would have actually made decent car - fast and economical. And then they could have further save money by not developing 200t either. As well agree re sport mode. It really something similar to normal mode on older cars and I think it save fuel for exact reason you mentioned. In eco or normal mode - when you press acceleration nothing happens, making you push it more than you actually intended and then car just jumps forward. Whereas in sport you can accelerate more evenly.
  22. In my experience they "drifted" and were not consistent e.g. you set it to 70 and after 20 miles it goes like 69 or 72 consistently. Or you click it once nothing, happens, click it twice nothing happens, click it third time and it goes 2 miles-up. It felt really analog somehow.. like on my old IS250 In comparison to cars I mentioned it feels very digital 1click=1mile-up.
  23. Yes ML and Premium has 10/12 channel amp in the boot.
  24. Tweeter is fitted into door handle assembly, so it isn't different door card - not sure if internally it is different. Up to you really, but even if you find replacement for rear speakers you will still need separate amplifier. e.g. ML non-ML:
