  1. That is even better... Maybe that is why Lexus was so reluctant to make PHEVs - it would require 3 separate places to "fill-up" the car 😄
  2. Yeah, I would only use Lexus for service, but never for any other work, because their hourly rates are set for cars costing £50k, not £5k.
  3. To be honest it still works out quite competitive, unless you do it yourself and keep no record of it. As well don't forget about Essential Care discount - works out around £400 for 2 years of service. Yes you right, they only do filters, oils and basic stuff but it just serves as good check over for the car and you can't get it better in places like Halfrauds, Kwiktheft or even generally reasonably good ATS. Besides I don't trust Halfrauds to check my car, not even to refill the oil...
  4. just plugged number into the formula and that was the outcome. It turns out the arm was 64mm instead of 200mm, so the force was 3times lower and it would have required 3 times higher speed to move the camera.
  5. Just took a copy of it on PC and marked approximately what I think normal human would see from drivers position. As I have learned from my experience - insurance companies only want to see exact point where accident happens, unless there is something very important just before or after (like some road markings of traffic lights). If you give too much information, then TP insurance may start nit-picking on other aspects (literally anything just not to pay, or claim 50/50%). Modern wideangle cameras are wonderful in terms of capturing a lot of view, but they have same issue - they may show things you can't see and TP insurance will claim that because it is on the camera you should have seen it as well, hence partial fault. The red area can as well be moved if needed to show what happened and having such a wide picture allows one to choose where it is best place it, but don't send the whole thing, because then TP insurance will focus on what they want and works best for their narrative. In short - it is important to moderate what you capture on dashcam in the way that proves your innocence, no more and no less.
  6. No you won't and that kind of suck... for Relax it has to be 10years/100k miles whichever comes first. I think Lexus is considering to reintroduce 140k/15year extended warranty (at least that is what they imply with some questions in their owners survey), but it remains to be seen. Relax really doesn't make much sense for anyone who maintain their cars relatively well - Lexus is very unlikely to to break-down before 10k miles or 10 years old.
  7. Makes sense - that is what I said in one of the previous post. As long as it is close enough to headrest or arm is short enough it would simply push against headrest. Probably it would still be extra safe to get long arm and mount it on the post on the other side i.e:
  8. You may be right, I can't remember there being such clause and now when you go to check T&C it just takes you to "Lexus Relax".
  9. I think Extended Warranty only covers costs at Lexus, somehow I can't remember there being any provision for Third Party repairs.
  10. Apple does not support Miracast despite it being de-facto standard for wireless displays - they have their own proprietary AirPlay protocol (as always...) One thing for sure - iPhone won't support Miracast out of the box. Some people get it working by downloading Miracast app on AppStore, but this is not guaranteed to work.
  11. Could be any place (Tesla has it on the left, BMW on the right), some even have it at the front (Nissan) or the rear (mostly PHEVs), or the boot. I would probably fit it at the rear-middle of the garage, so if you reverse the car in, then it could reach both sides and the rear of the car. Unless of course charging port is on the front of the car - then you will have to drive front forward to the garage which isn't ideal. https://insideevs.com/news/328027/take-our-poll-whats-the-perfect-charge-port-location/
  12. Yes, support is obviously another major benefit... once you get android unit from China, it either works or it doesn't. If it doesn't then not that much of the problem, just return it for refund... but if it works for say a month of 2 and then stops, then you are on your own, you won't get any warranty. Perhaps it is better to buy from Amazon or at least UK based re-seller in such case, as they at least going to be able to warranty it for like a year.
  13. Just guessed... so yes the math will change on that. Now looking at pictures again it does look like much shorter arm than I thought.
  14. What problem are you facing? Or you simply don't know here to start set-up? Have you looked at the navigation instructions? Please see page 49 here regarding the set-up: https://d24bc9lyrt5en5.cloudfront.net/Customer-Portal-Admin/emanuals/LEXUS/OM24808E.pdf
  15. Quick math suggests that if your entire set-up is say 500g and 200mm from axis, then in head on collision at 50MPH it would exert about 1.25kN of force equivalent to 127Kg on the mounting point. I don't believe the mount can hold over 100kg even on locktight. Now sure - if you were to get into head-on collision, then this mount would be least of your worries, but we can look into it other way around - how much force mount can withstand? 20kg maybe? So it will pivot at 15MPH of instant deacceleration (quite possible in collision). The other slightly worrying coincidence is that 15MPH/s is ~0.68G and average car could brake at ~0.6G... so under emergency braking the mount could move! My math by the way could be all over the place, but I think overall the results are correct.
  16. Do you have wide-screen system (10.1") or older 8"? 2018 was FL year, so it could have either. The FL cars all have wide-screens, but some non-FL cars as well got them in late 2017 and early 2018.
  17. Ok, the price makes little bit more sense then. However, in comparison one can get whole new android unit with screen for £200-300, or GROM without screen for £500. And even looking at spec. GROM isn't really that impressive - same as cheap chinese android units it comes with mediocre processor, memory and obsolete android version. In fact looking at some chinese units, they are even better in terms of spec. like having 4GB ram and 64GB storage vs. GROM 3GB and 16GB... even later android versions like Android 10 vs. GROM Android 8. Obviously all these specs needs to be taken with grain of salt, because when chinese say android 10, then it is most likely going to be their custom rom which is not supported by google/play store so perhaps one gets similar utility from older android on GROM. And when they say 4GB/64GB of memory, then again it may be cheapest and slowest memory they could get. In either case GROM isn't some sort of high end product neither.
  18. Maybe he meant between both post of the same headrest, which would make sense. In such case the only way passenger would be slapped with the camera would be a) the force excreted on camera exceeds strength of the metal headrest post or b) the mount breaks ... but then it would just fly forward. Simpler solution would be simply fitting camera very close to the headrest, so it could not pivot at all, or very little and just push against headrest itself.
  19. The only downside is that it keeps original Sat-nav unit which has very poor touch sensitivity and resolution for todays standards. And for the cost I would expect whole new unit, not only phone connectivity.
  20. E10 is definitely bad idea if left for some time, I have run IS250 quite a lot on E85, but I would never leave any sitting in the tank. Crossing the Europe an putting full tank of stuff and then burning it in 3-4hours of continuous driving didn't hurt, but if left in tank for long time then it no only attracts water, but could as well erode other components - apparently IS250 before 2007 not suppose to run E10. I just don't know what exactly has changed in cars after 2007.
  21. Torque converter AT doesn't "slip", but I know what you mean - it is feeling similar to that when clutch is slipping on MT. On AT that is usually because gear fails to engage and transmission throws it in neutral or back to previous gear for short time, in mean time engine just revs delivering no power to the wheels. Common cause would be wrong level of ATF (although I would expect Lexus to know better), the next cause would be solenoid issues - but in both cases I would expect VSC light when this happens. Same here - I always found it annoying and fascinating that in UK people don't pay much attention. In other countries it is literally illegal to have different tyres on the same axle (in UK they just have to be same size). When it comes to different axles - I would say tyres should be at very least "comparable" - that is if you have UHP tyre on the rear, it would be best to have UHP tyre on the front, so they act more predictably. Both OP tyres are good tyres themselves, but Primacy is "eco" tyre designed to low rolling resistance in mind, PS4 is UHP tyre which is quite aggressive - meaning amazing grip when pushing it to the limits, but I have personally experienced it being kind of dicey when cold. If you got out in the morning and outside is 2 degrees and slightly damp, then it could be quite unpredictable for some time. My drive to was ~45mins (18 mines) and it would take probably 30 minutes (say 12 miles) for tyre to start "feeling right". In short - you kind of need to treat PS4 as semi-slick, it almost needs "warming-up". Overall, I agree with you that these tyres are not the best match - in warm and dry PS4 will be a lot more grippy than Primacy and this could induce understeer and in cold and damp it probably will be other way around. So the car behaviour would be very hard to predict when conditions changes.
  22. Interesting idea... only one thing to consider... the camera may show things which you as a driver can't see - because it is further behind and has wider angle. This is generally good thing, but once I almost got blamed for the incident because of wide-angle was showing the car which I could not see as a driver (long story short I won). So the conclusion I made was that in future I will cut the video to natural "human" viewing angle, before sharing it with insurance (~80-90 degrees instead of 140-180 degrees dashcams records). In your case that would be even more relevant, as camera is further away, so shows even more. In short nothing wrong with mounting (and I understand the desire to capture as much as possible), just some practical considerations when it comes to using the footage to protect yourself. That is what I would be sending (within red borders) if I were you:
  23. Yeah... these one would be illegal on IS250, because they would block the number plates on the back - IS plates are mounted not on the bumper, but on the boot lid. Now obviously getting spare number plate and attaching it on the bike rack is not really an issue, but one would be playing "russian runlet" with police when it comes to lights.
  24. Generally damp MF cloth, but if you need extra cleaning power then standard leather/vinyl cleaners. I quite like Dodo Juice Supernatural leather cleaner + sealant. Depending on how dirty they are just spray it and us MF or if needs agitating then soft bristle leather brush. Just make sure not to use leather creams/conditioners and similar products, because there is no need to "nourish" what is basically plastic ("vegan leather").
  25. The problem is not mounting the rack, but the electrical connection required for repeater signals. I know some people just ignore them and fit the bikes on the back, but that makes your car technically not road worthy as bikes obscure the real lights. On IS250 technically you can only mount roof rack (at which point you going to scratch and dent your roof, or something like this (seasucker talon or similar) could be an option as well:
