Problems Encountered with the LC500
dutchie01 replied to malcolmw's topic in Lexus LC500 / LC500h Club
same for me. i thought lexus was up there in build quality. My Is250 was dead silent, nothing for 4 years. My current Is300H thesame, just nothing. I owned a BMW for 2 years and heating that car up in winter brought out an entire orchestra from within the dash. Propably due to expanding plastics of different kind. just terrible. -

when in the market for a new car there are several options of buying . specifying it to your taste and have it build to order is one. Dealer will give a certain discount but not that much. the most profitable i found out is to visit several dealers and look what they have standing in the showroom. There are demoś of course that can be bought but apart from these there are also brandnew cars waiting on someone to buy them. Some of these cars have to go have been there too long and the dealer wants them out of the books. this means big discounts are available. Mind you in most cases these cars are not on the internet so you will have to go out there and do some work but it will pay off in the end. I bought a BMW 118 for my wife with 15% off, my IS300H got 12%. you will have to be patient as maybe the spec you are looking for is not available yet. and of course sell your current vehicle yourself dont trade in. Ask extra discount as you have nothing to trade in! -
a bit too much in your face for me..

Car is here. Why does it get dirty?
dutchie01 replied to bvhout's topic in Lexus LC500 / LC500h Club
Just amazing what color can do to a car. I find this a superb example of the right color matching the architecture of the car. Oh and that interior just blows my mind it oozes “ exotic supercar”. Just compare that to grey with a black interior.. You do need a strong character to drive up in a car like this though. my compliments Ben! -
RC facelift heading our way?

Its on the various lexus websites now so i guess this is now the only version you can order unless you want an “old” model that sleeps at a dealer somewhere. Guess you will get an absolute superbargain an that dont know if the update is cosmetic and satnavscreen only or are there mods to mechanical or chassis. Anyone? -

Sad sad sad that it has come to this. I guess everybody on this forum will know someone whos car has been stolen or broken into. My BMW was ripped clean 2 times so i had to sell it. Mate of mine had a Panamera, first 2 times the headlamps were stolen third time the car. Anothers BM 130 just disappeared. Its not only the expensive exclusive cars but even Polos Golfs etc. Big Rat just as your mate rightfully concluded not to buy special cars anymore i wonder how many people would think thesame?? And yes i agree the exclusive vehicles are stolen on demand and the stealing of parts is likely done by organized gangs. Its no longer the old school amateur at work. -

It could also be the Broken Leg Syndrome ( BLS). If you have a broken leg all of a sudden you see lots of people with a broken leg? -

dutchie01 replied to AndyCLexus's topic in Lexus RC Owners Club / RC 200t / RC 300h Club
Andy, if you are driving down the road in your car in 8 months time and you see a facelifted version what would you feel. if you are neutral to that just buy the current one but press press press the price! -
I always found a warning from a police officer more effective than a fine. I still recall a trip up to Denmark in my IS250 several years ago. It was night, dark and it rained like never seen before. The road was still very driveable and quiet so i was cruising at around 90mph. At a certain moment a volvo was about to overtake me but kept driving next to me. Police... The only thing they did was flash the blue flashlight they had ( inside the car on the dashboard!!) and waved their hand telling me to slow down. I nodded in confirmation and they were off.. Education is part of their duties i guess..

I once ordered a darkblue saab 93 and got the written advice ( and verbal ) to handwash only for 3 months as the paint had to dry out -
cheapest solution would be to purchase a second hand skoda diesel with 100k miles on it. give it a big service and it will be the most reliable and cost effective way to go from A to B. However, if that does not sound attractive just buy the car that you really want and screw the mpg. Life is too short

What was the worst and best car you ever owned?
dutchie01 posted a topic in Lexus Owners Club Lounge
Hi Folks! I have been driving a wide variety of cars and bikes now for 38 years. Some expensive, some cheaper than a newspaper. Some for weeks, others for years. I have seen traffic change from eerily quiet to 24/24 trafficjams, seen police interference from zero to computercontrolled infrared laser radar highways/B-roads. In some strange way i liked most of the cars i drove, also because they did fit in that timeframe. However, most of them i just forgot the moment i handed over the key. I have tried to come up with 2 of them, the Worst and the Best car i ever owned. This does not have to refer to the best engineered car as an emotional aspect might even be more important. ( for example i drove 3 citroens 2CV, which were driving deathtraps but i loved them so they wont be the worst car. I have been thinking about the Alfas that rusted so badly i could not jack them up anymore, about the Omega Estate 3ltr diesel that was fantastic as i could throw the entire family and bikes in, but it was lacking something so also not the best. Anyhow to keep it short here they are; THE WORST Almost a draw between a Ford Mondeo Diesel 4 door saloon and an Alfa Romeo 75 Indy. The Ford was terrible with a rattling 90 hp diesel engine. So frontheavy and soft on its shocks that sudden death understeer was common. I hated that car so much i tried to wreck the engine for 6 months before giving up. Overrevving, clutchless shifting it survived all so at least it was reliable. The ALFA on the other hand.... The buildquality was as bad as the engineering, really bad. I bought it new and did visit the dealer so frequently i knew all mechanics by name. Jammed gearboxes, broken valves, all sorts of electronic issues. The deepest of the deep events was when it jammed in 3rd gear in Paris rush hour. Oh yes i also simply pulled the entire shifter from the box so i had it in my hands when driving on the motorway. Driving that car was an adventure as you never knew if you would reach your destination. So my worst car will be the ALFA 75. THE BEST My Lexus IS250 Simple, no competition. Overengineered. Great little 6 cylinder inaudible at idle and incredibly smooth. The entire car was radiating quality, from the glovebox to the doors, from the gearbox ( i still admire the accelleration from standstill, like a cloud between the gaspedal and the box, soo smooth, soo linear. One of the most underrated cars in the automobile world. And what about you? -
This post is about nothing really but it is hopefully the first one in 2018!! best wishes drive tastefully

Snow
dutchie01 replied to PCM's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
Chris, one thing i forgot is the compound of winters is different securing the rubber stays supple and soft in low temps unlike summers that become rock hard. So, below 7 celcius winters come in their own right and even give shorther brakingdistances when no snow! When temps go up above 12 i always change back to summers as that is the best option then. ( plus the winters start to wear down really really fast). Last thing profile depth of 4 mm on a winter is a dead tyre needs to be higher than that. -

Yes they most likely would Chris. You really have to experience the difference between winters and summertyres to believe the effectivness of them. Once you swap you will never go back. the profile of winters is designed to claw into the snow and thus maintain grip. Summers will fill up with snow that stays in the profile making the tyre seeking for grip it can find. Compare it with summers boat shoes with a slippery sole and winter boots with a rough profile and now try to walk on the snow with your boaties! Having said that the laws of physics will tell you that weight really is an issue here. Once grip breaks weight takes over and you can be a passenger in your own sledge. -

My IS300H is on Michelin winter tyres. I put them on mid November until Mid March. When driving in snow i find the car very stable and never lost grip when accellerating ( in SNOW mode). My previous IS250 also had michelin winters on and also that car i found excellent in driving on snow. However, on summertyres i would be in a ditch by now!
