  1. I have been there before after driving many years of SAAB. I wanted to continue, felt really comfortable with the brand, thought it had the right image for me liked the quirkyness of the cars and so on. Unfortunately we all know how that ended.
  2. Haha yes that will be on my shoppinglist as well. Just another example of an automotive market changing so fast it will leave sleepers behind...
  3. Cris i fully agree. I really would like to stick to the brand but i left already currently driving a Volvo. After an IS250 and 300H i wanted to stay with Lexus but did not want another 300H and could not find another model to my liking. Tried the NX but found it underpowered, tried an XC 40 and that was that. Now again in 1.5 yrs it will be time to change vehicle and yes i would like to come back to Lexus. But what model? The position in the market has changed for Lexus. 10yrs ago the 250 was a car that stood out from the competition with buildquality and especially NVH. Those were the usp of Lexus but no longer. Apart from beeing exclusive i struggle in finding what Lexus stands for nowadays, what does it offer the competition can or does not offer, no idea really. As i dont like the German brands i will be eying Tesla as well.
  4. Honestly it does not matter what we think. We are enthusiasts and therefore visit this forum. However we are a minority. Most owners buy a new car( mostly company cars as i dont know anyone buying a brandnew motor privately) and just drive long for 3 to 5 years and get another one. Lexus seems to go where the business is and i cannot blame them. The 4 door saloon segment is almost dead, nobody wants one everybody wants a suv/crossover. so i guess that is what you have to offer. Always offer what the market wants right? so UX/NX/RX/LF1 and most likely another one in the A segment. Saloons? not anymore, IS dead, GS dead, LS a big flop not selling so the only option is the ES that seems to do reasonably well. So, any investment in the saloonmarket will likely not be a good businesscase so better not do it. i think one of the issues of Lexus is the conservatism of the brand. New models should come faster than now. The infotainment now looks 3 generations old and still they keep soldiering on, what is lexus standing for nowadays?? champions in refinement, best in NVH? sporty but sophisticated? trendsetting in new powertrains? aesthetic architecture?. Anybody?? It seems Lexus has become the Seat or Skoda of VW, maybe the Audi because of interior design and fit and finish. My IS 250 of 10 years ago felt over engineered, rock solid with a whispering V6, no noise no vibrations. The IS300H was a good car in its own right but it felt more toyota than lexus. I feel they lost it and dont really care as long as they can sell SUVś in the states. The competition has overtaken Lexus. Without talking about EVś ( tesla/audi/mercedes/bmw/vw) one only has to look to the Coreans. Just look at Genesis........
  5. Monaco is propably one of the strangest places on earth. Ever seen - supercars in monaco - on youtube? Guaranteed to give you a brainfreeze. Super and hypercars driving cricles in the center never ever leaving first gear and the only goal seems = to be seen = Bizarre. Btw not so sure if owned by the prince of monaco is a an advantage as he is not really known for his sober lifestyle to put it mildly. I find him more a mercedes benz man, the biggest most opulent and armoured Maybach of course with plenty of room for girlfriends behind the blacked out windows?
  6. To me it all shows that todays Lexus is not focussed on the European market. They design and sell the vast majority of cars in the states and asia. The european market is moving to EV with lightspeed at the moment and is leading in that aspect. Germany yesterday announced that all petrolstations in the country must offer EV charging as well. Lexus is not a marketleader nor a trendsetter, they seem to simply follow demand and have turned into a manufacturer of SUV/Crossovers. all the rest does not seem relevant anymore. UX/NX/RX and more to come soon, that is where the brand is heading. In europe sales have fallen to such an extend that independent dealerships are now moving into toyota dealers and with regard to EV development they have been sleeping with their eyes open ( or made the strategic decision to not participate in that market). Lexus to me seems to have a much weaker position than 10 years ago and like Overland say what is there to choose if you are in the market for a new car? the current range is small and long in the teeth. I too am eyeing Tesla which offers a very competitive package with government support of course. The 3 series is the best selling car in the netherlands at the moment. Lexus sales are so small they disappeared off the card alltogether.
  7. Lexus Netherlands also confirmed this today. So thats the end of the IS then.....
  8. i really hope it is more than a refresh with new bumpers lights and some new colors. The car itself is good enough to keep going for years on. Excellent rwd chassis and even the powertrain is sufficient in todays traffic although a little more oomph would always be welcome. The new Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is available with a new 300hp engine... Here is hoping! I hope the interior will be completely new copying the LS//LC/UX. maybe a further upgrade in the premium department with different leathers textures/plastics. my current car will have nother 1.5 years in it and i really hope to return to Lexus, maybe the "new" IS can do it for me.
  9. Lexus global sales 2019 is 765.330 units ( all models). Lexus UK sales 2019 for the IS model 1226 units... ( yes it is long in the teeth but when it was a bestseller for lexus back in 2014 they shifted 3868 cars. For the full Year that is. To put it in perspective that is around the number of 3 series BMW sells per month.
  10. Its brilliant i could watch this all day. The comments are pure understated poetry, about the scooterboys "the shadow, coming to a morgue near you". Quite an achievement as he makes an ordinary drive around town look like a hollywood movie.
  11. www.whichcar.com.au/news/bigger-engines-coming-for-911
  12. Now heres one i did not see coming... We all know the 95 gram EU regulation that forced manufacturers to downsize big time. From 12 to 8 to 6 to4 to 3 to even 2. The most horrible example of this beeing the fiat 500 twinpower, a horrible 2 pot sipping as much fuel as a 4 pot. Problem is the testing method that is a lab test is totally alien to real world driving. Enter eco settings on the gearbox. That change shiftpatterns and make sure it upshift before the turbo spools up. then remove mirrors, tape all gaps between panels, lower the car, use smaller tyres and ready to go through the lab cycle. Miracle figures wow. To everybodys frustration there is a massive gap between the real world fuel consumption and the figure quoted by the manufacturer. And apparantly this is going to change with the EU7 regulation coming to force in 2026. Main idea is to bring the fuel consumption and co2 figures in line with real world driving. The EU7 will replace current testing. In Which Car australia, whichcar.com.au there is an interview with Frank Steffen Walliser a guy working with Porsche. He expects 20% more displacement and more cylinders to meet the test. In other words, bigger engines. He expects manufacturesr to go from4 to 6 from 6 to 8 etc. Turbos will stay and all manufacturesr will have to design new engines. Maybe there is life after death... Does anyone know more??
  13. I beter rephrase that as it is not correct. Too much for me is shouty bragging pick ups dont care etc. He does not really fit that bill, it is more the constant stream of words without breathing all on thesame tone. Difficult to listen to, at least for me. MotomanTV is American as well as SavageGeese and these are my absolute favorites!
  14. To American for my taste. He does review a huge number of cars though, sometimes interesting like the toyota century .
  15. Great idea and seems to work. There is also a bearlock system jamming the gearbox mechanically. Same idea, yellow bar clearly visible on the gearlever cant get the car in drive. Too complicated to steal. I always have all windows engraved with the licence plate number. Also this makes it complicated to sell a stolen car on as they have to replace all windows. It wont stop them from breaking in and ripping everything out of the car however. This now happens more than driving off with a stolen car. Airbags, satnavs, wheels etc etc mostly stolen on order!
  16. Oh what a terrible development of this thread which started only in March19 on a relatively light note. The question was How Bad Will It Be, Well, we now know beeing in the middle of it. Messi my sincere condolences and Pete get well soon. I never met you dont even know how you look but hey we seem to have thesame interest and share the love for Lexus. Regarding Covid 19 i can tell you it is an agressive beast not anyway near the flu. My wife had it for 3 weeks and she is now slowly getting out of it but boy it was a rough ride. The most frightening thing was it seems to travel through the body looking for a weak spot. Terrible headache one day next day backpain then heart then etc. I just wish i could only worry about the health of my Lexus again.
  17. it is with most Lexus products, if you recognize it you will see it.
  18. We seem to keep our Mieles for decades until they die. Why dont we do thesame with Cars??
  19. great car but a bit too powerfull...
  20. Sometimes i long back to the days where cars had no clock, without 8 buttons on the steeringwheel, without suspension or throttle settings without sport eco + or ++ without enfuriating satnavs, heated seats that dont really work, auto wipers that always are too fast or slow, 10 speed autoboxes that keep gearhunting , wheels that are so big comfort is not included. And So On. Just give me a good car without all of this with a setting designed by the engineers and without a 300 page manual. Maybe i am getting too old and should just get a modern classic from the nineties?
  21. latest from Dutch healhservices; around 70% of people in artificial coma on the intensive care units are male and suffering from adipositas ( overweight). half of them below 50 years old. Doctors telling that "they all look thesame " 70% of deaths are over 70 years of age.. children can be infected as well with teens and tweens ending on ICU but this is very exceptional. Note that a lot of elderly people do not get to the ICU as they die before they get there in nursery homes or simply at home.
  22. Yes unfortunately. Remember Holland is some week and a half before the UK in this nightmare. My sister, her husband and oldest daughter now have it for over a week. My neighbour in my office center has a 23 y o nephew that is in hospital with corona. One of my Dutch customers 18yo son is locked in his room coughing and sweating, one of his warehouse workers is in quarantaine at home. My wife works in a nursing home and today a resident died of corona after quarantained for just over a week. That is the status of today could be different tomorrow..
  23. This is not the flu. It is more contageus with 1 person in average passing it to 3 others. Deathrate in Italian ICś at the moment is almost 9%... These are figures readily available on the internet. I am writing this in Holland and we are some 1.5 / 2 weeks behind italy. Overhere it is spreading at an alarming pace and lots of people now know someone with corona or from hearsay. Over 50% of the people on our IC departments is younger than 50 with a good healthy boy of 16 as youngest. we are some 1.5 weeks behind italy and i think the UK is some 1.5 weeks behind us. I am not optimistic.
