  1. Wow, those are pre war prices for me. I pay 2.15 euro / ltr for 95 at the moment!
  2. Hah! with current car prices going up instead of down there will be a day you RECEIVE a monthly fee when leasing!
  3. And will get worse.. Topping up end of each day will save you money ( i admit i dont).
  4. Now now James, ever thought of joining a Nazi party?
  5. Seen in a village in rural Denmark, middle of town entering a schoolzone. 30km limit and a trafficlight. Mind you no crossing at all just a trafficlight that is always green. Except it is connected to a radar. Over the limit the light turns red and keeps you sitting there for two minutes. Next to the light? a Camera! so drive through means a fine. How wonderful is that! Social pressure at work, everybody will stare at you for 2 minutes thinking Another w##### that is in a hurry. For me this system is about safety and not about bringing in money for the council. Wonder why this is not replicated everywhere.
  6. these currently sell for 5000 usd and are by no means the most expensive ones. I must be getting old... 5K for sneakers....
  7. Things i will never understand, paying silly money for silly products. https://sneakernews.com/2020/05/13/air-jordan-3-white-black-da3595-100/
  8. A Lexus satnav that directs you off the highway only to tell you to immediately take the same highway again. grrrrrrr
  9. A secret trafficjam. Youre sitting in one and then the traffic bulletin on the radio comes along and mentions all traffic AND YOUR ROAD IS NOT MENTIONED!!!
  10. Waiting for a red light with no other traffic to be seen for miles. ( happens a lot to me at night). Why in 2021 are traffic lights not intelligent??
  11. Go to the Lexus website, click on cars then ES then scroll to the bottom and presto!
  12. plus amazon has 15 million subscribers in the Uk and Lexus sells less than 14000 per year. Different scale of things and completely different businessmodel.
  13. I feel something could be overlooked here. We are on this forum because we like cars in general and Lexus in particular. We have interest in automotive topics and are looking for info/stories or just automotive entertainment. For me it is almost a daily read. Now here is the question, from all people that bought a Lexus in the last 5 years, how many are on this or other Lexus forums? A vast minority for sure. And the rest? My guess is they are happily driving around and have no interest in answering other owners questions on a Lexus website. Same for other brands, most people buy a car and thats it. Having said that, in the revamped Lexus website there is already a tile with "owner reviews" stating "independent customer reviews". For the ES there are 163 (!) reviews, most in one sentence or just 4 or 5 stars without text.
  14. In its worst form it will be a Lexus good news show fully controlled by the marketingdepartment. Send a question and you will receive scripted answers, steering questions plus an invitation to visit dealer XYZ. If its really bad they will even invent non existing customers. I cannot think they will accept an open forum like the LOC where positives and negatives about the brand and its products and strategy are discussed freely.
  15. Yes they are. On the side wall of the tyre you need to have the letters M+S or the tiny mountain with snowflake inside. Strange construction in Germany. Not by rule, but when driving in winter conditions you need to make sure your car can handle them, thus no summertyres. On top of that when in accident on summers good luck to you, the insurer wishes you all the best in the future and will not pay one penny
  16. The best dashcam clip available.
  17. I totally agree and think this is now common behavior in the western world. However, i do not think you can blame those self centered instagrammable consumable superficious ignorant youngsters. Not at all. They are a product of the time they grew up in. Let me explain. Back in the sixties and seventies when i grew up there was... well nothing really. The average family was poor and struggling to have food on the table. Clothes? yes functional and only change when worn. Our family did not have a car and sometimes when i look at pics from the time it strikes me how empty the streets were. If you wanted to escape that situation the only way was school, study and then the job ( after having loads of jobs to pay for the study). Then work work work long hours and make your way to the top. When my first child came my first reaction was, well i have to work more hours need money! Fast forward to todays youngsters. First child arrives and they are at my desk want to work one day less.. They grow up in total wealth everything is there within 10 minutes. Mom and dad have plenty of money, nice holidays and after school they take a "sabbatical " travel the world for a year on their parents creditcard! They are used to consume and throw away what they dont need now. They are a product of the time we live in. Strawberrys available for 12 months and jeans from china delivered within 5 days for 6 euros Crazy times. I do feel however we have entered a zone of total disruption where things will not return to "normal ". For instance, the younger generation is not interested in cars, not at all.
  18. I would never take that risk. Second hand tyres, you never know where they have been, Could well be from a totalled car with broken wheels thus damaged tyrewalls. Could be a nasty surpise when cruising on the highway!
  19. I am not a professional racingdriver, not an automotive journalist like Chris Harris and i am not sliding around on the local roundabout. I do not drive a 600hp monster that loses traction with a tiny blip of the foot. I do not drive up and down a mountain during a snowstorm and dont take my car out on trackdays. I honestly could not tell you the difference between brand A or brand B when driving. I DO find tyres important though. A small piece of rubber is the only connection between the tarmac and 2000kg fast moving metal. Throughout the years i always read the tyretests, the summertests, wintertest and so on. What always came out was that the Chinese B/C brands had longer stopping distances and worse wet weather capabilities and were just not as good as the A brands. I always take Goodyear/Michelin/Bridgestone/Continental or Pirelli. Nothing else. To save money i buy the tyres on the internet and ask the local garage to install them.
  20. Malc, you forget the 4 Sea King helicopters, 8 Apaches, 1 Boeing 747, 2 x 767 and a whole string of white unregistered aircraft arriving in the weeks leading to the visit. These carry not only a couple of hundred secret service and special forces but also the 50 or so armored vans, chevys and even a rolling hospital. I witnessed this years ago when Obama did visit Amsterdam. People living in the adjacent buildings were not allowed to approach the windows or go outside and complete highways were closed. Its an occupying force in itself. And the cadillac "beast "is plane ugly.
  21. I had a Carlton too although it was called the Opel Omega overhere. Great car 6 cylinder diesel estate. Kids were young then and i used to collect them from all over the village. Bikes in the back no problem. Went to Spain twice fully loaded. Great memories! About carbon footprint. Yes that question can be answered but the devil is in the detail. Car factories nowadays are like assembly plants with thousands and thousands of parts literally arriving just in time from all over the world. All that needs to be included. What distance from plant, way of transport etc. Then energy needed for production how is energy created and so on. All these statistics will be available but i guess manufacturers are not keen to disclose them as it could be a pr nightmare. Just think what would happen if Tesla model 3 could be dirtier cradle to cradle than an average diesel. I peronally think it is better for the environment to keep a car on the road for decades than it is to switch cars every 3 years like i have done for the last 4 decades ( company cars). The way governments look at this is different and more simplistic. Co2. Thats it. Take all cars in a country and upload the Co2 figures will give you an overall Co2 figure. And here you have the key to steer policy. The overall pollution of cars in country X has fallen by only 6% in the last 5 years whilst 9,2567% was needed so new policy is needed to reach the goal we have agreed in 2 years. Fiscal stimulation of BEV,s costing billions but influences the overall Co2 figs. Cash for clunks or whatever it is called, Environmental zones you cannot enter with cars older than 15 years diesels or even petrol ( only BEV). And. So. On. Its a multi billion Dollar casino funded by tax payers
  22. NEVER call a Dutchie a German. Pretty sensitive topic for some of us haha
  23. https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/2022-mercedes-benz-eqs-ev-most-aerodynamic-car/ https://www.carsite.co.uk/car-reviews/citroen/c6 No, maybe not.
  24. i guess its not easy designing a BEV as the CW drag coefficient is directing everything. needs to be below 0.25 to be able to reach an acceptable range. Thats why everything starts to look at everything else nowadays
  25. I always more or less concluded that Renato was working for the UK embassy in Italy. Renato?
