Easy solution to above problem. Replace the run off area with a graveltrap or just grass. Nobody will drive onto it, drivers take the room they are given. Real issue this year is that we have seen several identical moves this year from various drivers not only Max or Lewis but they were judged differently. A yellow card is a yellow card. Off side is off side. consistency is bitterly needed here to prevent endless discussions. Cross the line is penalty. Like it used to be. BTW it is called Motor Racing and this year has given us so much more than the past 7 years of Mercedes processions. Bring on 2022!

Never been to goodwood but have seen lots of it on internet. Great to see these old cars doing what they were made for, racing. Been to Spa dn Zandvoort regularly. Great to walk around in the pits, smell the cars

TV Coverage has been a deciding factor even in the Ecclestone period. Bernie asked Tilke for new tracks in new countries with 1st and 2nd gear corners so a company logo would be framed by the camera for exactly XYZ seconds. This is how they got new sponsors. It was all about money and still is. the old school racetracks are for the old school fans only ( me included). the new generation does not give one toss and probably prefers Saudi Arabia above Belgium. So many people that did visit last weekends race were filming themselves watching the action !?! Paul try visiting a historic GP event if possible, it is how it was. Gentlemen-like and a civilized international crowd quietly discussing engines, over steer and that other car that always was faster in the 78 GP come on what was the name....

That is what almost killed F1. The cost of participating spiraled out of control with big manufacturers throwing buckets of money into development. The top teams spend on average 500 million pounds per season. And you cant run for one season so it will be an investment of 6 to 8 years meaning 3.5 billion pounds total. No new manufacturers were interested at these prices and others left with Toyota as most spectacular failure. They tried from 2008 to 2017 did not achieve anything in spite of having the largest budget of all teams. ( only the lexus LF V10 was a spin off). The days of mechanics with overalls and greasy hands is over. You are looking at fighter-jet technology now. As no other teams were coming in Mercedes became ultra dominant winning everything. This led to a fall in spectators as from 2008 to 2017 interest in the sport halved. F1 was dying. From next year there will be a budget cap of 150 million per season to make it more attractive for manufacturers to step in and likely VAG will come on board. Worldwide interest went up the moment Max arrived and in his wake the young starts Leclerc, Norris,Russel, Yuki, Sainz. Worldwide interest is now bigger than 2008 and the last 2 races the worldwide views went through the roof setting an all time record. With this new high period of interest a new type of fan came along, the football type of spectator that does not really know much about the sport but likes the atmosphere, spectacle. Also the press coverage changed from the old fashioned factual with a drivers interview to football like front page shouting headlines where facts are merely a choice to be used or not. I do hope that next year will bring Ferrari and Mclaren to the top as well so we can watch a scrap between 4 drivers instead of 2.

The IS 250 6 cylinder was the best shot Lexus got at the 3 series. With hindsight i now think they should have used the IS 350 for this instead of the 250. My main gripe with the 250 always was that nothing happens below 4000 rpm. No torque available. Pro is the refinement of the engine. No vibrations, silent running at idle and a wonderful sound when flooring it. Fast it isnt also not in its days but a great engine it is. Would like to try the 350 though. On topic to the americans. The cost of motoring overthere changes everything. Petrol for free and carprices at minus 110 % compared to here. Who even cares about fuel consumption? you can get a 600hp monster for the price of a nice Golf overhere so i do understand their love for big engines. If the options are available why not go for it?

Who, just who is writing that script?

Well then, any predictions? I expect HAM to win as the merc seems to be the faster car but then again as Murray Walker said - in F1 anything can happen, and it normally does -.

All-Season Tyres - Sometimes Not Up To The Task?
dutchie01 replied to Rabbers's topic in Lexus General Discussions
4 seasons are fine for moderate winter conditions, so i guess it totally depends on where you live. A little snow, heavy rain or cold temperatures all fine you can drive them all year round no need to swap twice a year which is costly and a nuisance really. On the other hand if you live in an area with heavy snow every winter there is just no getting around full winter tires. The profile is deeper and designed for those conditions. Mountains or hills.. winters. Ice is a different animal. Spikes will be your only savior. -
All-Season Tyres - Sometimes Not Up To The Task?

The Passat has considerably worse handling than the BMW and the Giulia driver cant drive? -
At least in his time someone made decisions and told others to shut up and go to work. I wonder what he would say to Toto and Horner..

Difficult to predict. The track has changed to last year and several tight corners have been softened making the track much faster, Pirelli expects 14 secs. Then there are long straights which will benefit the merc enginepower. As it is the final i expect the workers at home base in both Merc and Honda to work round the clock to create the perfect car. You never see these people but it are average 600 or so in both companies. Last year Max did win but Mercedes/Lewis had the title already so it was not as important. I think Merc could have a slight advantage but as many times this season expect the unexpected. I really have no idea who will be the 2021 champ.

We both saw thesame race but you see it different with neutral glasses on. For a non biased review see above video. In my idea both are trying every trick in the book, its like watching a championship kart race, also because regulations are not consistant and drivers taking the space they get( or not, by surprise). Yes Max is super agressive and pretty wild but Lewis is not much different. Difference was he could not risk damaging his car as no points is end of championship, for the rest he is a master in disguising his tactics, something Max still has to learn. This weekend is like Muhammad Ali against Joe Frazier all over again, will be the most watched sporting event this year.

Not expecting that at all. Taking Lewis out will mean disqualification so ham the title. Unless of course lewis is causing the accident. In my humble opinion both ham and max were just as bad in the last race. 2 Hotheads not willing to bow. Difference is that max is max you know what you get and he is pretty honest about it protesting against the sanctions and even regulations, let me race place type of thing. Lewis is the experienced smooth talker influencing the press and presenting a certain image of himself that at least in the last race was detatched from reality. Almost the entire UK press follows him blindly. Some examples? Before the race he was vocal about the safety of the track or lack of only to protest the day after when schumacher hit the barrier. "it does not look damaged" said mr safety. Another example was driving Max wide when Max did thesame he got punished. The worst one was the brake test drama. Lewis knew exactly what was going on. He knew Max was trying to let him pass but understandably he did not want it in that spot as max would get DRS and immediately pass again.. Max wanted him to pass there and that is how it happened. The slick willy "he is brake testing me" was just total nonsense. From BOTH it as a drive not worthy of a champion ( at least in my opinion). Lets hope this weekend is a clean and sportive drive from both presentiing the 2021 world champion. Whoever wins hats off! And the team bosses? Please please shut up and stay out of their way. If only Bernie was still there....

The rudeness problem could well be a generational problem a this is the way youngsters communicate with each other. Could also be a company training issue as training nowadays is as basic as it gets. Forget 6 month traineeships, whats your name here is your desk this is our company name. And in 2 months the employee is at another call center for 20 pounds more. I guess we both come from bygone times where every letter, every offer, every little written message was checked by a superior and in the case of incorrect spelling or grammar the red marker came out. Again! These days are over peniole and much to my regret said the old man. My suggestion is to forget the UK distributor and send an email to the manufacturer in Poland with all details and maybe a picture and ask them how you can buy from them? This should work ( and maybe you get a polite reply back as well!)

Today I'll mainly be moaning about ...

Plastic packings in general but the absolute winner are the toiletblocks or how are those things called you hang in your toilet with soap in them. Who designs those packings? Surely this must be on purpose? Lets produce a packing they cant get open and have a good laugh? Last time i used a knife, a screwdriver, scissors and only mamaged after using a pair of gardenscissors! absolutely ridiculous! Should be illegal! -
And neither would Bernie!

I don't think this track is suited for F1 cars. Too fast. Apart from oil dollars there is no reason to be here. No spectators other than some expats and Saudis. No atmosphere and it a small miracle no major accidents happened with all the blind high speed corners without run off. The race itself was pure chaos, a lottery. Lewis showed his experience by driving around the mess. I don't like drivers and team bosses openly trying to influence the stewards into giving the opponent a penalty. A bit like football players trying to score a yellow for the other party. Also the inconsistency in penalties is shocking. One can easily make a list of identical issues through the season that are judged differently. Whatever your opinion, the aggression of Max, the all or nothing attitude alike jaques villeneuve or senna has made this season to what it is. Without Max it would be an utterly boring procession. Gloves off and on to Abu Dhabi!

Do we have any members from Lanzarote?
dutchie01 replied to steve2006's topic in Lexus Owners Club Lounge
Why not ask them to courier it out to you? UPS etc will do it with insurance within 48 hrs? Sure the hotel can arrange this? -
Any predictions for tomorrows race? Here are mine 1. Ver 2. Gasly 3. Bot 4. Per 5.Ham Logic? not really but the lay out of the track, the walls, the limited visibility could cause quite an unexpected result. Could easily be in the upside down order! Also the run up to the first corner is very very short i expect total chaos there.

Could a hydrogen powered IS be on the way?
dutchie01 replied to Mincey's topic in Lexus General Discussions
I cannot see hydrogen taking another place than marketing for the automotive top 5. They will tell the story green environment H2O blabla etc but it will not reach mass production and is likely not to. The big 5 have literally spend hundreds of billions ( not millions) in the changeover from ICE to BEV and it will take a decade at least before they can have return on those massive investments. Mind you those investments are needed to stay alive, In the next decade the automotive world will be hit by a massive invasion from Chinese manufacturers that will set up camp in this side of the world. And all is about BEV, not about Hydro. -

And that brings me to a real mown. Judging history with todays morals and values. Cancelling heroes, names, events, statues seem pretty popular in some circles. -
