Why do people not use bikes for commuting? Maybe i am the wrong person to answer but i just hate physical exercise, dont do sports, dont visit the gym go shopping with the car that i prefer to park inside the supermarket in between the meat and the bread department, have not used public transports since i had my drivers licence, hate beeing in buses, trains, trams, if it rains i dont fancy leave the house. I prefer to be in the privacy of my own moving livingroom. I have heating, aircon, am dry, can close the doors so nobody can enter and it can reach blistering speeds. You might have guessed it but i dont even own a bike.. Do i hate bicycles or cyclists? of course not! Each to their own. I do not understand the prices of todays bikes though, thousands of Euros without problem. I would always buy a car for that!

I guess it fully depends on the situation but it could be safety related. Drive your bike close to the pavement so cars can overtake you without too much fuss. This can be scary as some motorists are almost touching you without realizing. If you drive more to the middle of the lane overtaking is impossible so you are safer? My Motorcycle instructor told me exactly 43 years ago" defend your lane, drive in the middle! " just a thought...

Here is how it works and why mixing cyclists and cars is not a good idea; When driving a bicycle in between cars, vans, trucks, buses you are very well aware you are the weaker one and it really seems most of the cars are there to hit you. Sometimes some cars seem to want you out of the way and those drivers dont seem to care if you get hit or not. When driving a car it seems those bikes are a bloody nuisance, always blocking your way, always slower and especially unpredictable, get out of my way please!!

John, those in authority in this case are the parents. If i knew who this young man was i would visit them for sure. It seems traffic has become more lethal over time. In our days headphones, mobile phones, apps instagram and what else did not exist. Our only danger of distraction was too much beer? ( and girls of course..)

Malc it will never stop, last week me slowly driving in my village a 16yo schoolkid with headphones simply crossed the road like i was invisible, left the pavement on which he was cycling (!) . Car alert systems went crazy, the car and myself hit the brakes as hard as we could hit the horn shouted all sorts of insults to him ( only realizing the windows were closed ) and in 5 seconds he was gone not realizing he escaped a certain death....

Lexus RZ revealed
dutchie01 replied to talaipwros's topic in Lexus RZ Owners Club - All-New Electric Lexus
It seems there is a misunderstanding in filling up electric vehicles it is not thesame as filling your petroltank to the brim. There is no need to fill up with electricity thesame way. The car calculates how much electricity it needs to reach the next chargingpoint and that could be 36% or so. This will be 10 minutes charging? Another thing about range, when i drive for 2 hrs i need a break sometimes sooner ( wash my hands of course!) so who needs 1000km range? Ganzoom can you fill us in on the daily prictice of things? -

In this case the explanation is most likely engine power and sound isolation.( its a Lexus) When the engine is powerful enough, has enough torque, there is no need to floor the throttle. I just loved the gearbox in my IS300H and had a ES for a day and that is clearly newer generation much smoother. Absolutely great in dense traffic, effortless wafting with every now and then a short tap on the throttle. ( unless of course you are a youtuber doing a "test", then you need to look into the camera and floor the throttle until Vmax and make a droopy face). On the other end of the CVT spectrum is the Prius, remember those? No power no torque so here the gearbox will have to look for power high up in the revband.

I didnt, currently driving a V60 T5 and waiting for a new XC60 T6 plugin. 350hp and 650 Nm will do the job i guess, will arrive in 4 weeks. I had to place an order back in November when the Lexus NX was not available yet. I would still prefer a Lexus but could not find a model good enough to order. I took several models for a testdrive but really the Volvo drives circles around them all. So Volvo it is...

Structural rigidity and Volvo. I was envolved in a big accident some 3 yrs ago driving a Volvo XC40. I was the last car in a 50km/h trafficjam on the highway and was hit by a Ford Mondeo with 120kmh, the driver did not spot the slow traffic. My car was launched in the air and during flight toppled over landed on its roof with a huge bang and skidded another 200 mtrs to standstill. All airbags out and total chaos on the highway. This was rush hour and it blocked the highway for over an hour. Anyway laying on its roof i opened the door and walked away. Not a scratch. When the car was on its wheels again i looked at it and the roof was not pushed in one mm. all doors opened like in the showroom, all windows intact. In the weeks following i did a lot of research why the car survived this shunt and it is no coincidence. Volvo uses different grades of super strength steel in critical places that other manufacturers find too expensive and so on. If the moose did hit a Volvo the result would be different for sure. FunnyFact, when Volvo was designing their first SUV, the XC90 mainly targetted at the US market they analyised typical SUV accidents in the states and the first thing they found was that after driving for miles and miles on a straight road the first corner arrives, the driver misjudges the speed goes in too fast and the SUV rolls over. Thats when they decided the roof is just as important as the crash zones!

What was/is your favourite British Police Car?
dutchie01 replied to superatticman's topic in Lexus Owners Club Lounge
I know its not British but this is the one from overhere. Old times. In those days the highwaypolice gave you a warning drove next to you looked at you and waved the hand "slow down!" They were the king of the road , long gone now. -

Michael, can you tell us a little more about the road to 200.000 miles? What maintenance schedule did you follow, was it serviced at a Lexus dealer? Repairs? Breakdowns? Anything?? -

Interesting. I agree and dont agree Rayaan. What is "premium"? For me premium is a mix of all that makes a great car, buildquality, design, reliability, choice of materials but also engine drivetrain handling. The IS250 had a special feeling like no other car in its class. The smooth silent six pot and the extreme buildquality made it work. The IS300H was much less a "Lexus" to me everything seemed one step lower and i would not say it was premium. Exclusive yes but not premium it just had more toyota than lexus in its dna. I drove the lower end mercedes A/GLA/CLA as rentals and they dont feel premium to me, the engines are too slow and rough and they are way too expensive for what you get. Same with the Audi Q4 had it for a day and also that to me is not premium. Hard plastics, cheap materials, below average performance, hilarious range. Your RX does feel premium to me it has thesame IS250 feeling the wonderful engine the buildquality and so on. Yes that is premium , For Me. But for my children a KIA Picanto is premium. Look dad! it has apple car play and a back up camera! For my neighbours the Tesla model 3 is premium, they have 2 (!) and these are not companycars, they love them to bits. I have been an enthusiastic SAAB owner for many years and in the end it was more like a select group of elderly gentlemen telling each other how intelligent and good their cars were, but nobody else bought them. In the case of Lexus of course this is different beeing part of the big Toyota corporation and very successfull in the states but i really wonder how the brand will position itself in the EV era. within 2 years a whole avalanche of models will hit the market and i really hope the Lexus DNA will survive. -

so if a tesla isnt premium because of the interior/buildquality is a lexus with an average drivetrain then premium? -

Tesla is outselling Lexus in the UK 3 to 1. So in that aspect you can turn it around by saying Lexus is nowhere near a proper contender to Tesla. I agree with cabin quality etc but it seems it doesnt really matter anymore. Yes, to us enthusiasts that can admire the engineering behind an IS 250 glovebox or the 100% perfect stitching of the leather. Tesla customers dont care. They buy their car for other reasons. Range, software, power, handling, chargernetwork. So far i cannot see Lexus making the slightest dent in the Tesla sales as the above items are just not there. The new Lexus EV will remain a niche product. -

I wouldnt compare it to the Audi which by the way is a total sales flop, too expensive for what you get and i only hope the RZ will not be judged as thesame thesame but i am not so confident. This is a wildly competitive segment with new cars beeing thrown in by the week. Just try the TESLA Y. comparable in size/package and starting at 55k for the long range. 331 WLTP, 378HP, 0 60 in 4.8 sec and to top it off the supercharger network. Forget about the charging but for a Lexus i would expect something similar, it just does not seem good enough? -

Not sure if the drivetrain is competitive enough for the pricepoint. 71.4KW, 309HP and 250 WLTP ( in real world driving minus 25% = 187 miles? ). Its all a bit middle of the road to me and certainly nothing special let alone class leading. Stylingwise i do like the rear, very strong. Front a bit generic will have to wait to see it in the flesh. I expect everything to work and keep working ( Hi VW/Audi) and the interior seems ok except from the marketing department induced Joke steeringwheel. Will it be worth the premium over a BZX? Difference in the past between Toyota models and Lexus, at least overhere, was quite big. Different engines wonderful creamy six cylinders, hybrids, 8 pots. Are we now going to see THESAME engines in both brands?? Will Lexus become Toyotas with lipstick?? So far the NX seems a better proposition. -

Wasnt it the whitehouse during the Trump pressconferences that introduced the term “ alternative facts”? just twist and deny when appropriate -

What a totally absurd statement seems like you are trying to troll reactions? Here are some more for potential use down the line; Managing directors of car companies are mass murderers destroying the planet they should be put in prison. Cycle lanes and low emission zones are crazy ideas will never work other than putting people into sheep Climate change is just an idea look at Fox News! Scotty Kilmer is The Only One telling The Truth, you just have to recognize it. People buying an electric vehicle should be put in labour camps. Millionaires and especially Billionaires are always stealing from the rest of society their wealth should be confiscated. Democracy does not work as Government screws up people etc etc, we need a different system The clothing industry is a disgrace for the environment we all should wear thesame ( blue ) suits.

I'm afraid its all a bit more complicated than Putin in or out. Russia is basically the petrol station of Europe and currently supplies around 100 million m3 of gas per day into Europe. Different countries have different needs and for instance turkey, Italy and Germany are almost fully dependent on that gas. Due to the sheer volume it will not be possible to find a quick replacement. For instance American gas can be liquefied and transported in tankers to Europe but at most this can replace 10 % of the needs. Gas goes for 110 euro per megawatt hour on the exchange today and the day the war started this jumped to 345. Current threat from Russia is that if all is not paid in rubles they will stop supply. This or the war spiraling out of control can create havoc in the energy markets and oil and petrol are closely connected. It could well take some time before petrol prices come back to 2021 levels.

I would do it for sure but maybe that is because i learned it the hard way years ago when a pump stopped working on my BMW ( after 54k km....) engine running red hot steam everywhere and pump needed to be replaced including all hoses/pipework. Then its hoping the engine did not overheat too much/long otherwise it could have damaged the heads/cylinders. Needless to say i got rid of the car. On the other hand yours is a Lexus....
