  1. Seems everybody here wants to buy a car from Lexus that is not available. This includes myself as i was excited when i first saw pictures of the new IS, great looking car and no doubt i would drive that now. Alas it was not to happen. I think beeing an old frame the car could no longer successfully pass the crash tests in Europe thats why it was pulled.
  2. Simple really. In UK and Europe Lexus is just not competitive enough, full stop. It seems to me that Lexus productmanagement has lost the plot some years ago and the hesitant adaption of electric propulsion could have delayed/iced all plans. 10/20 yrs ago Lexus had a clear goal in becoming the marketleader in NVH. 6 and 8 cylinders, isolation, buildquality stiffness and excellent high end materials for all touch and visual points in the cabin. Well, Electric motors give excellent NVH and everybody and his mother has them now except... Lexus. They are asleep with their eyes wide open and have the risk of beeing overtaken by the new competition from China. Polestar, Zeekr, Xpeng, Wuli to name a few. Thats where the competition is coming from together with the Koreans. Current line up is extremely limited and has some issues. Styling and overall package. The ES has extremely large overhangs front and rear and the rear end is very busy lots of lines combined with an eighties spoiler on the trunk. Inside some materials seem more toyota than Lexus. The UX is so cramped in the rear i can hardly sit in the back. Their all time bestseller IS has left the building. The new NX has a strong visual focus on the front like the car is leaning forward and is not as practical as the RAV4 on which it is based. The new RX, well what is the difference with the NX? and again the front looks weird. The LC is brilliant and the only car in the line up with a stand alone chassis all others are Toyota based. And lets forget the LS as nobody wants that anyhow. As Lexus is going downhill the Koreans are shooting up with fresh styling plenty of choice, lots of models and so on. Engines. Great choice between 4 and 4 pots. While the whole of Europe screams for EV Lexus is not delivering and offers 4 pots in combination with a CVT that 90% of the people do not like. Infotainment. Disastrous, slow and with an architecture to drive you crazy. Current generation is better but still lags behind the competition and the big upright screen looks soo toyota. A successfull company delivers what customers are asking for and Lexus just seems to miss that point
  3. Life is too confusing and fast for some Philip. By the way walking the dog can easily be done on a bike. You peddle the dog walks or runs. ( depends on what make/brand of dog of course). And biking while utterly drunk is also an option but maybe not the best.. Cycling was invented as a means of transport to go from A to B. the recreational part came later. When i grew up bikes were costing 300 euros max and i sometimes stare in awe at the window of the local cycle shop. Very popular and on offer this month the boogaloo trike, kids in front electrically supported and a snap for 6500 euro. The world has gone mad!!
  4. Dont worry if the firing squad is all female i am sure a fight will break out between them giving you two the opportunity to sneak out!
  5. On the brink of 2023 i have the following wishes. That Lexus brings out more models please copy the range on sale in the states Lexus. That car prices are returning to normal and decrease by at least 15% That service intervals when driving 10k a year are once every 2 years or more. That Putin falls from a window. That there will be a replacement for the A segment small cars you could buy new for 7K some years ago. That traffic returns to Covid lock down levels. That Putin falls from the stairs Happy 2023 to all! ( except Putin)
  6. Their employees are not qualified car mechanics but just folk that are trained to change tyres and sometimes even that can be a challenge. Some years ago i took my wifes BMW in for new run flat summers. When i bought winters some 6 months later from a local garage it became clear that 3 of 4 tyres were destroyed due to incorrect installation that damaged the steel rim construction inside the tyre making it worthless. Of course is did complain to Kwikfit headoffice and they did refund them. Another example of some years before that with my companycar. Again changing summers for winters with the car ( IS250) on the lift waiting for action. I always watch what happens and i see one of the Kwikfitters approaching my Lexus with a big tray and some equipment apparently starting an oilchange. I ran towards him asking what he was doing and he just told me "an oil change". As he did not look to have more than one braincell i politely asked him to go to the manager and ask if that was correct. I will never ever set foot in one of their companies again better to bring your car to a local Mechanic.
  7. Great system especially whe parked in between 2 cars and moving out when its not possible to see around the corner, system sees more than i can so yes. However i experienced a similar event trying to park with 2 neighbours and a little dog standing and no doubt gossiping about the neighbourhood behind the car on the pavement in a safe distance. Car says no. Just refused to back up. I had to leave the car and politely had to ask them to move ( and of course explain the system) before i could park. This in a Volvo and i cannot switch it off.
  8. I really like this car it is a massive leap forward for toyota and proves there is still plenty of life in ICE cars. Over 200hp, great styling and incredibly efficient. This should be a big success. I do expect more models with this as basis including of course an suv/cross over
  9. Somehow i think this catastrophic problem does not appear on other car forums and could tell something about Lexus reliability. Or, as the Germans have a saying, Can i have your problems please? Renato as a true philosopher will this keep you awake at night? Could there potentially by an issue with the airbag and why if at all has the sequence of the lights going out changed, what is the underlying message from Lexus Japan and what will go first the airbag or the warning light?
  10. Interesting article. Its from 2012 but worth reading. https://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2012/02/avoidable-contact-lexus-killed-saab-but-gm-let-saab-die/
  11. I could not disagree more..
  12. Agree Vlad but i think that both Saab and Lexus are appealing to thesame demographic, they are ( were ) fishing in thesame pond of customers. Marketing dept would state - higher income and education ( over 80% of Saab owners had a university degree would you believe that!), independent individuals know what they want, traditional values, attracted to off beat intelligent brands. - So where did Saab owners go to? In my case Lexus and now Volvo. I think Audi is up there as well
  13. Spot on Linas, i loved my 250, did 150k km in it and not even a lightbulb.. It is the sum of things with the bank vault build quality, silent and smooth engine and the feel the car gives you. Definately more Lexus than Toyota in this one. One day i might buy one again.
  14. https://www.carmagazine.co.uk/electric/are-hydrogen-fuel-cell-cars-the-future/ Jumping into conclusions rather than sarcastic John?
  15. sorry, too quick. wine. arg vs france i guess france? meat argentina cars france women hmmm, draw nationalistic arrogance france surely diplomatic superiority france Oh well, footballwise i think france does have the better team whilst argentina is built around messi. For me France is the favorite but if they cannot control messi he only needs 1 m2 to score.
  16. Fully agree, recently saw argentina vs the netherlands 1978 and i just could not believe it. So slow, players simply walking with the ball without beeing attacked and boy was it mean and hard! in todays world 10 players would have been sent off. Football has become so much faster and players ar athletes now. In those days smoking drinking and nightclubs were the norm.
  17. Bergkamp was ballet. Soft, almost ghost like movements. In thesame time like all greats i guess he was a real #######. I once saw a docu about his dark side and boy this was as smooth as his movements, most fauls were made when the attention was somewhere else and the ref not watching. Van Persie came close but yes maradona, ronaldinho, cruyff, messi, pele, ronaldo all hat that extra that would decide the game. who is the star of this championship? Messi or Mbappe?
  18. not the players but the supporters from moroccan origin. They created havoc in various european cities like paris brussels amsterdam madrid etc.
  19. could be me but from this angle there are similarities with the brandnew Ionic 6? Remarkable that nobody bought the brandname and continued EV production
  20. Sorry Rayaans but i do not agree. Everyone can score a penalty on a sunday afternoon playing with friends. Now do thesame in a worldcup with the weight of the nation on your shoulders knowing billions of people are watching you and if you miss it will be the end of the tournament. It is psychology at work. Kane is a secure value in penalties and i do not hold anything against him. Nothing to do with money. The real issue here is that the team was just average nothing more. Like Germany, Holland, Portugal, Italy ( not even there!), Spain, Brazil, Belgium and so on. Why do you think Marocco, Saudi, Japan all of a sudden come to the surface? Yes incredibly hard work and the right attitude, agression all or nothing but not on rough talent. Where is argentina without messi? anyway, looking forward to argentina vs france this sunday!
  21. The color, those wheels, those foglights ( available in blue for better view in snow). I think i have found my retirement car!
  22. I had 2 Saabs loved them and would still drive Saab if they were around. First one was a 93 4 door some 15 yrs ago the last year of that model before they switched to the new one. Very special car, great engine had it hirsched ( Saab owners do know). Manual gearbox and the torque in second was bizarre. Definitely one of the most beautiful cars i owned. Biggest problem was structural rigidity or lack of it. The entire chassis would twist and flex, dangerous at high speed and on B roads 2 hands at the wheel. Grip in the wet was laughable and power just could not get on the road with wheels constantly spinning. Second Saab was the then new 93 a much much better car but it somehow did not have the charm of the old one. Malc get a 93 convertible of the latest model. They are still cheap, easy to maintain and keep on going. And are timeless still a looker!
  23. Issue with electric cars is the instant torque its on/off and does not build gradually like with an ICE. If you have a petrol with an manual gearbox you can put it in second do not touch the throttle and slowly lift the clutch to the moment it bites. the car will then slowly start to move with the engine idling. When it rolls shift to second and ever so slightly push the throttle. Job done. With an EV its different due to the instant power, you need 4wd, or a snow mode setting which limits torque or intervenes by brake so spinning of the wheels does not happen. Hopefully the traction control is hyperactive that could do the job as well. anyway, without proper snowtyres not even worth trying
