Out of curiosity, the 10 year warranty. Does this tell you to service the car every year? And beeing an EV what exactly do they do then and what is the annual cost? I think Kia has a similar thing and owners are protesting telling it is a hidden 5k surcharge as evs dont need maintenance?

Gang, let me tell you a secret; there is no roll out of hydro stations and there will not be one in the next 5 years. Hopefully the technology will have improved by then so it can be used more frequently for HGV but so far it will be industry use only.

When will you sell your car John?
-
Dont know, but they sold all stations here to another company and are pulling out. They had a lot of negative press last year and Dutch investors were pressed to sell all shares worth 2.1 billion in total by all sorts of protest groups and environmental organisations. This because of the role the company plays in the East African Crude Oil Pipeline in Uganda which is causing human right violations and serious environmental pollution to such an extend that even the European Parliament got envolved. Extracting oil from the earth is dirty business, now who would have thought that?

Pricing differentiates the faster you charge the more expensive it gets. I guess it will cost around thesame as filling up with petrol if you use a 350kw charger. Funny is that The German government has reduced the number of public chargers needed by 2030 as most people will charge at home or at the office. For that reason Total sold all petrolstations in the netherlands they are pulling out.

I dont think it had anything to do with wheels coming off. Never ever heard that before from whatever manufacturer. Seems to me they got caught between a deadline and batterytech not ready yet. Anyway major marketing clusterf****.

Toyota currently have one model, the BZX, in Subaru speak the Alterra and Lexus the RZ, all basically thesame car albe it in different shape in the form of Lexus. It is not good enough too compete in the fiercely competitive Chinese market.
-
I think it is more about the trend Linas. If you look at the biggest market in the world, China with some 27 million cars sold each year the figures speak for themselves. In 2022 one in four cars was BEV or plug in, and in the first months of 2023 this rose to 38%. That combined with an avalanche of new Chinese cars hitting the market that are accepted as superior to western brands has created some real unrest in the automotive world. The Japanese manufacturers all see their Chinese market disappear rapidly with an average decline of over 30%, Toyota outperforming Honda, Nissan, Mitsubishi with minus 14% marketshare. Car development takes some 4 to 8 years and the threshold everybody was aiming for, 2030, now seems outdated. The worry the Shareholders of Toyota have is that the company does not offer anything in the electric markets which as a volume manufacturer could be lethal with the current rapid transition and adaption to electric.

https://thedriven.io/2023/06/13/time-to-go-electric-toyota-faces-shareholder-revolt-and-calls-for-board-shakeup/ Toyota has promised the solid state battery for years but never delivered. On top of that they completely missed the boat in BEV development. Major shareholders are now stepping in and demand a new board and Toyoda to step down all together. The announcement from Toyota they are going all in in BEV development weeks after they announced Batteries are not the way to go could be seen as a move to calm investors. All in all a major marketing disaster to start with.

I have to say it grows on me. Interior looks wonderful and on second thought the exterior is not bad as well. It is longer and wider than the Toyota derivate and looks much more balanced. This week Lexus also introduced the TX and that has thesame "Lexus DNA"in its styling, call it the new look as you may. Engine on paper looks slow and underpowered but in the real world this could be way different. I drove an IS300H that in day to day driving was just fine but on paper? Wonder how much it will cost though.

According to the Global Energy Monitor in India and China they will open 700 new coalburners or 3 a week. whatever we do or dont do in the west will be a drop in the ocean. That of course does not mean we can carry on as usual but only on a truly international scale this can be tackled. However people will have different priorities in different countries like providing food for the family or getting a job. In this part of the world we have the luxury that we do have all so we can glue ourselves to tarmac or throw soup at paintings. Better to do that in China i think. -
When driving a classic car you need to change often to maintain the engine. Modern cars with synthetic oils are different. My wife does 10k pa and once owned a bmw where the car warns you when it is time for new oil. This was once every 2 years. I think 10 or even 15 k is way too quick and only benefits the dealer. Btw my scientific test is to look at the color of the oil and sniff it.

New 2024 Lexus LBX small SUV all set for reveal
dutchie01 replied to talaipwros's topic in Lexus General Discussions
Maybe in the flesh it will be different but for now i will pass. styling very conservative and predictable on the brink of boring. Drivetrain likewise and underpowered. Overall not a very competitive package me thinks. Competition in this segment is fierce. Ex30, crv, countryman, tiguan, q2, x1 etc etc. This one will not sell well thats my prediction. -

New 2024 Lexus LBX small SUV all set for reveal
dutchie01 replied to talaipwros's topic in Lexus General Discussions
I do think there will be a market for the LBX or whatever they will call it. Small crossovers is what people want and the choice will become less with Audi pulling the Q2 and Mercedes the A. Most potential customers don't give a t*** about underpinnings, chassis, aluminium or steel and so on. If the cabin has nice materials looks and feels premium ( Not Luxury!!), if the overall styling has some presence and can ever so slightly impress the neighbors expect this car to show up as second or third car in the household in some neighborhoods. In the end every manufacturer needs to make a profit and the current financial outlook for Toyota is not too good. They carry a massive debt, the largest in the automotive industry, and are starting to loose market share rapidly as markets switch to BEV which they don't offer. That could well be the Achilles heel of the LBX as customers could well be looking for Electric. -
I would get that vicks towel patented see a business model here? Tellsell?

Cars that nobody wants i guess. All others can be had as nowadays thieves know exactly where the weak spot is. Some years ago my BMW was almost gone by simply ticking the small window of the rear passenger door. Then apparently you can open the door from the inside. Lucky me as the thieves disappeared and when i was at the dealer for repair they told me this was the way to break in as the alarm does not cover that corner... So, the inside info is well known to the dark side and presto canbus theft is common. BTW when at the dealer he told me a loyal BMW customer was so fed up with break ins and theft he googled for the top 10 cars thare are least sold ond got himself a Subaru

Well John, especially for you then. https://www.thecarexpert.co.uk/are-electric-car-fires-really-that-common/ https://belux.edmo.eu/fact-check-do-electric-cars-catch-fire-more-often-than-combustion-engine-cars/

What about other products we take out of the earth, like wood especially the entire forest there seems to disappear and in lots of cases ends up in power stations in Europa as classified as green energy. What about old fashioned Oil ( and the spillings ), what about Gas, what about Palm Oil, the list is endless and as always the poor sods living there have no rights at all.
