The 12V battery will go flat in a couple of weeks or so because of self-discharge and the alarm which is running. If you are going to not use the car for weeks hook an intelligent trickle charger to the 12V battery. Hope this helps. John

I have some new black with grey trim 5mm heavy duty rubber mats allegedly for a GS300. They are of good quality and came from Car Mat Kings in Glasgow. They do not fit my 450 - the retaining feature is a middle screw rather than two holes and the driver's mat covers the accelerator. See picture of label. The present eBay entry for the GS300 mats is different. They may fit a 300. I would be very happy to give them away. You are welcome to collect in person (OX3) or get carrier to collect for you. Guy, That looks as if it is a 30 pin connector for early iPhone or iPad. I don't think you will get much functionality. Most likely just enable hands free phone use and perhaps music playing. Others might know more. John

Guy, Could you send a picture of the cradle please? I don't think one was ever fitted by Lexus. Don't get your hopes up too high. In 2007 the implementation of BlueTooth was still very basic - version 1 I think - so not much functionality even if the phone has lots. John

True but then so too will letting it go flat. When prolonged sunny weather is expected, cover up part of the panel. Uncover for winter. As you say some might have intelligent circuitry though which removes the problem. John

Sylm, A 2.4W panel is nowhere near enough. 25W would be much better BUT beware that many panels I found on-line say they were many more W than their own figures for current give. One company whose ad gave three different outputs said I needed a special ammeter to measure the current. The wattage quoted will almost certainly be a maximum under optimum conditions: bright sun out of doors with panel at right angles to suns rays. Put the panel inside the car either stuck to window or laid flat and the maximum is already well down. Also if the panel were to be in an optimum position at noon it will not be for all the rest of the day. Your bike may not have the drain due to car's electronics - security etc. Britprius tells me this is about 40mA i.e. about 0.5W. Unless your panel can supply 24 x 0.5 = 12Wh every day your battery will slowly discharge. A small panel will slow this discharge so you may last long enough. You also need to add in self discharge. I hope this helps a little. John

I did return mine. At best it would have put off the day when there just wasn't enough to start the car by a week or so but there was no way it could maintain the battery. I had a long exchange with one seller who told me I needed a special ammeter to measure the current. His advert was a mass of contradictions. I returned that one as well. Going for a drive once a week if you can is a better solution. J

Rounding Gloucester yesterday day a lovely blue RCF with custom exhaust and personal plate with product of digits =27 passed me but then turned North when I continued West. Later on M4 West of Cardiff the same car went by again. Rarely see one RCF let alone same one twice. Member on here? John

Steve, Interesting. Thank you. How about comfort, silence and space inside and in boot? There is an ES 100m from my house but I don't know which variant and it also has tinted windows. I rarely see the owner and when I do he is not communicative. 50mpg would be welcome even with my low mileage. John

Malcolm, Your location makes me wonder. Sometimes when driving to Wales we stop in a little car park on the outskirts of Ross to let the dog out and have some lunch. A couple of times we have done this a chap has appeared and talked about my car and wanting an SC430 himself. Possibly on the last occasion he had actually bought one but he didn't have a car with him that we saw. My 450h is red and the dog is medium sized blond. It's not you is it? John

Yes it is a heavy car but it is also a hybrid and hybrids that use charging the traction battery to slow down are not as heavy on brakes. John

Mark, I think you will find it can't be done. IIRC it is the version of Bluetooth that does not permit it. To get round this what I did was to manually enter six or so numbers for the speed dial screen. Then with the phone in car I can dial any of those using the car's touch screen. For any other numbers I stop the car and use the phone. I think you might even be able to use voice commands to dial "home" for example but I haven't yet tried. John

Shahpor, Has anyone actually measured the warping? I wonder in view of advice on this thread if removing the rotors, thoroughly cleaning the hub and flange and refitting in orientation which gives least run-out might be worth a try. John

Peter, No apology needed but thank you. Years ago at work we had an image intensifier (ex-military) that came with a reddish-orange filter for use in smoke. Same bit of physics. Fortunately fog is rare here. I can't remember the last time I used my fog lights. John

Peter, I meant towards the lower frequency end of the spectrum. Lower frequencies penetrate much better than the higher (towards blue) frequencies which get scattered. Not only do higher frequencies penetrate less but more comes back so 6000 lights rather than 4300 or lower does seem illogical for fog lights. Are the French ahead of us in this respect? John

Peter, How did they work as fog lights? I ask because fog lights are not usually white but more towards red. John

Gary, Also, the inside of the rim where tyre sits on it may have some corrosion which is causing leaky seal. Removing tyre, cleaning rim and replacing will cure that. John
