Gang, The MoT test covers most of the items that are visually inspected on a service. So if you have the MoT there is little point in paying again for service. If you want fluids and filters changed and a hybrid check then just pay for those. John

John The traction (hybrid) battery should be fine. It is the 12V one that might have suffered because there is always a slight drain (security system and self discharge) and it goes flat in two weeks or so depending how good it is. Mine is 14 years old and it will go a week. Short journeys not good for any vehicle (except all electric) but if run in park position for an hour every week as recommended by Lexus or the 12V battery kept trickle charged it will be fine. And more comfortable than most🙂 Do let us know how it compares with the LS430. John

Welcome Hedley. Sorry to read you are having some problems with your RX. I wonder if they may be lockdown related. If the car is not being driven have you run the engine for an hour once a week as recommended by Lexus? If you have kept the battery charged by other means you don't need to do this. John

Richard, After attention by Lexus my radio was code-free. The battery was changed many times - I had a fault I never found which flattened the battery. I carried a spare and got very fast at swapping it in. John

Stuart, I had a 98 model. The radio was coded and it lost its code one dark night in the wilds of Warwickshire when the battery died and had to be replaced without the benefit of keeping the power to the radio. Nobody had recorded the code in the manual and the previous owner could not help. The specialists who can deal with code locked radios said this was one they could not do. After an exchange of letters with Lexus HQ the service manager from Lexus Oxford came to my house (suit and LS) to remove the radio to take it to be fixed. After a week or so I drove to the dealer for it to be refitted. They said they would send an invoice but never did. I don't know if the service manager agreed with me that it was silly of Lexus not keep a record of codes to cover this not unlikely event of code loss or if it was a real administrative oversight. Whatever much better PR the Lexus HQ. John

The engine is often not running when you stop but that doesn't mean it has stalled. When you press on the accelerator the car will move forward by the electric motor and depending on lots of things the ICE will assist sooner or later. John

Guys, Fog lights are meant to be yellowish! Yellow light penetrates fog better than white light because it does not scatter as much. White light scatters more and some that scattered light comes back at you. A double wammy. John

Philip, Britprius will probably respond shorty by my guess would be that the sensor(s) battery has expired - it is 13 years old. They can be replaced if you can manage some DiY. If not you will need new sensor(s) and which the car has to be told about. John

The document I found confirmed it.450iPhone.PDF My way round this was to enter my most commonly used numbers in the car speed dial list. Then on the move I can use any of them easily. Peter, Sorry to hear bits have dropped off. A new Lexus exhaust could well exceed the value of the car but there are other much cheaper solutions. I was researching exhaust places down in the south before Covid and these people were suggested. https://www.infinity-exhausts.co.uk/ I did not contact them as my problem is fixed for the moment. Kevin, Yes just the same. The high voltage traction battery will hold its charge for a long time. IIRC Britprius says he knew of one OK after 18 months. With an LC you might find yourself going out more frequently🙂 John

True the boot is small but with a little care and planning you can manage. I have just one car so it has to go to the tip as well as shopping and on holiday. I routinely go away with the car full: me driving, wife who loves clutter round her feet even when the boot and back seats are empty, in front seat, dog in her hammock 40% of rear seat, two kit bags with our clothes on remaining 60%, cat in travelling cage strapped on top of kit bags, dog and cat food etc. in one rear foot well, lunch on transmission tunnel, asst cameras computers etc. in other rear foot well, couple of anoraks jammed round the cat basket for easy access. In the boot we have collection of DIY building stuff including power tools and cans of paint, walking boots, food for a week including an insulated bag of frozen stuff, a few bottles of wine, and other stuff to fill it completely. Fortunately I have never had a puncture. The cat has now died giving a little more room. I will see 36mpg or better on the way to S Wales via A roads and on the way back using M4 and A34 I have seen 45.8 mpg from M4 J 18 to home. My children have long gone or I would not be able to manage. John
