There are several threads on the various forums about greasing caliper pins, what grease to use or not to use. There is a newly formed company called ProSlip which is marketing a pack of three little tubes of grease for the various brake components. https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=ProSlip I have no connection with this company other than buying a little pot of the caliper pen grease before this triple pack was available. I asked ProSlip if they would give any discount to LOC members and they said yes! Enter the code LEX6YOU6 at checkout to get 20% off. John

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Allside-Carseat-Covers-145-140/dp/B000A217OG/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1522514579&sr=8-2-fkmr0&keywords=kleinmetall+allside+classic+dog+car+seat+cover I have used one of these for many years with several medium sized (20-25kg) dogs. It was expensive - about £30 at the time - but it is excellent and can be half or full width. I think it is a German product although the description on Amazon suggests much further East. "This cover has fast, easy mounting and braced side panels. The side panels to board the dog or the complete removal of the side panels when not needed can the car seat cover which is made up of polyester Allside. It is sufficient to cover wet wipe. Amazing lockable slots for seat belts. Parts of the ceiling allows legroom for a ride-person." It unclips in seconds when you need the seat for humans. John

I bought a little pot of Molykote G3407 from the eBay seller in the post above. He has now realised the gap in the market and is selling little tubes under the name ProSlip. The only way before was to buy a huge quantity which would be fine for a very big garage but no use for two pins once a year type like us. He has now added a couple of other things for the rest of the servicing of brakes. I have used it on my pins without problem but this is hardly an extensive user experience. If Dow Corning's description is to be believed then silicon, red rubber, copper slip grease or whatever should not be used. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BRAKE-GREASE-CALIPER-PIN-GREASE-BRAKE-PAD-LUBRICANT-PROSLIP/253509579387?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D49138%26meid%3Dd374abd4f10b428b8028fcb2b51b5359%26pid%3D100011%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26sd%3D253064197022%26itm%3D253509579387&_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850 I have no connection with him. I think I know what my level sensor looks like and the video did not help me! The sensor in the video would be better called "headlight levelling sensor". Some Lexi do have ride height sensors but the GS450h is not one of them. The job of the headlight levelling sensor is to ensure the headlights aim correctly no matter what load is being carried. It has nothing to do with the dampers. I don't know if failure of this sensor is indicated by a flashing AFS light but is would seem logical. (Read the manual?) I think failures are usually either a broken linkage which can be replaced by very cheaply, or the little potentiometer the linkage rotates. There is a description on the forums somewhere which used a little linkage from Maplin IIRC. Is the damper still misting after another 32k miles? John
-
No but perhaps I don't drive fast enough on twisty roads with good surface. (There aren't any in Oxfordshire!) On the other hand my wife says I am very insensitive and she is usually right. Sport setting also alters the steering ratio and I haven't noticed that either. I have noticed the sharpening of the throttle response but I don't use it as the pot-holed roads makes my throttle foot jump about a bit and the engine will respond. It does not respond in normal. John
-
The 450h dampers have two settings - normal and sport - so slightly more complicated and sadly with just one supplier. Hence cost. PM for possible alternative. In my earlier summary of pros and cons I should have added that insurance might be more for the 450h. But not more than what you cave on VED. John
-
GS450h generally higher spec before options, lower VED, more mpg, more performance, less brake wear, technically more complicated so potentially more to go wrong but that does not seem to the experience of LOC members. 300 and 450 weak points are dampers and exhaust. Calliper pins too but this is an easy DIY job. Both great cars. I had a Mk2 GS300 for 10 years and now have a Mk3 GS450n for 2.5 years. The 450 is better in all respects than the Mk2. I don't know about the Mk3 300

Hi Mike, Welcome to the club - the source of much information about Lexus (and life). The battery indicator in the speedo is the state of charge at the moment. As you drive this will go up and down. The is no way to check the health of the battery except by getting a health check at Lexus. I think this costs £59 and includes a year's warranty on the battery. If you buy from a dealer this health check should be part of the deal. If not ask for it to be done. If you are not buying from a dealer then ask the seller to get a health check done before buying. Look at the service record and the MOT history. This should tell you a lot about the car. 114k miles is not a lot for this car and many of us in the LOC have 450hs with more. I think the highest was 2 or 300k. The battery is unlikely to be an issue. Check the shock absorbers and the exhaust. And don't let it run out of petrol. If any concerns ask LOC! We love our 450hs. A awful lot of quality, reliability, comfort and performance for the money. John

Indeed. Easy to change when changing the tyres but a hassle otherwise, Buy new TPMS and go to friendly tyre place to remove tyre and old TPMS, install new TPMS and refit tyre. Looked at your eBay TPMS and spotted a set of four which look like the same item. Interestingly this set has the customer comment:- 17 Feb, 2018 Perfect Replacement Item for 2007 Lexus GS450h Bought these for my 2007 GS450h as I needed a full set as within a week all four batteries died. Got my friendly mechanic to fit them and I though I would have to reprogram them using Techstream but all I had to do was press the initialisation button under the dash and the car picked them up and the light went out. 3 weeks on and no problems so far! Highly recommended product and seller. Believable? Bitprius? John
-
Jimi, If you can solder you might want to follow' instructions by Britprius posted here on replacing the batteries. Costs pennies and you will not have to feed any new codes into your system. Search for "Lexus GS Gen 3 TPMS" thread. John

Kal, I guess your 22mpg is within 30 mph limit (or even 20mph in Oxford) with a cold engine on short journeys. A hilly limit area would be even worse. At 60mph on cruise up 50 miles or so of M4 through Wiltshire starting with hot engine I was in mid 50s mpg. Even after A34 and Oxford ring road I only dropped to 45mpg by time I reached home. But short journeys in town I get <25mpg. Don't worry. Just drive it and let computer decide what to do to fit your demands. I have never understood forum members who claim they can control when it's on battery or not. As royoftherovers says, enjoy it. Just spotted the price here. You can do much better than this. Does 250 really have 255 tyres? John -

Fitted pair of Landsail LS588 245/40/18 XL to front of mine this week. These is rated B.B.69dB. I have Three A on the back which was slightly cheaper and not quite so good rating. Both budget tyres and both recommended by others here. Looking forward to 20k+ miles of safe, quiet and economical motoring. John
