Does anyone know how much it costs to have a 2019 Lexus ES retrofit of Apple Carplay and Android Auto by a Dealer. I have searched the internet and asked Lexus but they seem to be unwilling to give approximate cost (maybe because there isn't a standard fee...I don't know). Is it around £100 or much more than that?

    Thanks

    Hi

I had it done last week at Lexus Stockport, cost was £80.

    2019 Lexus ES 300h.

Apart from using the switch in the glove box to disable the boot open button (which the manual says includes disabling the remote), believe there is a dealer configurable option, viz.

One of these options may suit your needs.

Perfect! will get them to disable it next time I take it for a service. Hardly ever if at all use it intentionally. Thanks!

  3. Might be a bit late, but I also have a 2019 ES base model. Other points to note - quite incredibly there is no Auto wipe function! I know, right? You have to .. do it manually!!! First world problems and all that, but I find it ridiculous in a prestige brand.

The default sound system is... insipid. Adequate maybe. You get sound in the front, precious little in the back.

  4. I have a habit of keeping my car remote in my pocket. On more than one occasion I have noticed my car boot open randomly - seems like somehow I press and hold the boot opener button on my remote. Doesn't happen THAT often, but it happens. The other night I heard a banging on my door about midnight and it was the police going past noticed my boot wide open! Nothing missing, must have pressed it again by accident.

Other than the obvious (hang the keys up or put them in a wireless signal blocking pouch, is there a way to disable this function? I did look through the menu system, did not see anything..

Anyone else do this or is it just me (again, had many cars with remote boot release, never was a problem!).

  5. Interesting to see with the return of regular heavy rain sees this issue being reported more frequently. Personally I reapplied my silicon spray the other week as I had a reoccurrence and its been OK since apart from yesterday it had a one second blip where it came on but went away of its own accord. No problems today!

Personally I also doubt its a software issue, I smell BS there!

I also had an IS previous to this ES, for four years, and had only one instance, when an actual leaf was stuck on the sensor!

I would be interested to know if this issue also happens on the Toyota brand version of the ES, the Camry?

This problem is very annoying and is making me think again about getting another Lexus...

And? Has the silicon worked again?

Well hard  to tell. Not much driving going on with the new lockdown and i I think zero in heavy rain,  small amount in light rain, but it is true that I haven't had a reoccurrence since I reapplied it.

  7. The dreaded sensor issue is back!

Took the car out today to collect something, It was raining very very heavily to be fair. On the way back the damn yellow light came on - Parking assist unavailable! first time in months!

I parked the car up, switched the car off and on again (I work in IT -can you tell?) and it cleared the fault. I checked the sensors and nothing unusual, no leaves just a bit wet.

Guess I will wait for them to dry out a bit and reapply the silicon unless there are better ideas out there?

Good old fashioned British double entendre (pun intended there).

Brought up on it with Carry On films and latterly Vizio. Can't beat it.

Damn autocorrect! VIZ of course! Finbarr Saunders Side James and Charles Hawtrey are the corner stones of my humour!

What do you call the spray and where can I purchase it as I have also got he same problem.....I thought it had been fixed when I put vaseline onto the sensors but today drove the car for about  25 miles and the whole time the warning came on the whole....real pain in the neck. As you can see I asked CHX what did Lexus do to fix his problem...something about a software update but didn't return this thread to answer the question. So I would be grateful if you could give details of the spray that you bought so that I try your fix....thanks

Ged, how do you negotiate speed bumps ?

Now thats a good question. The way the roads are theres no way to get to and from my house without going over several speed bumps. Some of which are quite savage! Some are the small pillow type.

I have been told speed bumps can play havoc with wheel alignment etc.

  11. Sorry I probably didnt explain well enough. The wear shows as uneven wear across the tread rather than at the edges. if you run your hand across the tread from outside to in you can feel some parts are higher than others as you move from outside to in, almost like the tyres are ridged, its not like the outer edges or inner edges are worn due to under or over inflation really.

  12. Dear fellow Lexus owners.

I have had a Lexus IS300h for 4 years and recently (about 16 months ago) an ES300h.

Both cars I have had problems with strange uneven tyre wear on the rear tyres!

On my IS it developed a strange drumming / droning noise. Several passengers commented that they thought a wheel bearing was going. I took it to my local Lexus dealer who (after denying they could hear anything)  diagnosed uneven tyre wear across the tread of one of the rear tyres - nothing wrong with the suspension or wheel alignment. Sure enough when the tyres were changed the noise went away.

I just put it down to a quirk of that particular car.

Now, on my ES (done about 25000 miles) the same noise has returned!

This time I took it to a garage who did some insurance work on the car earlier this year and acted dumb.

They also told me this car had uneven tyre wear across the tread of the rear offside tyre, which results in this noise.

They also took it to a tyre specialist who confirmed it.

I asked for possible causes and they shrugged their shoulders, suggested tyre inflation incorrect (I am rather anal about tyre pressures.. so.. no!).

Also suggested a faulty tyre! (They are the Lexus supplied Michelins).

I am a 53 year old Director and not given to "drifting" my Lexus around! I prefer to waft along gently, as you should in a Lexus.

Anyone else have this problem? Not someting I have experienced with other cars, two in a row sounds ...odd.

You need to buy a "time slot" (known as Online Subscriptions) on the website before you can access the TSB fully. There are various slots available at various prices. The 1 hour time slot costs roughly £3. There should be a link to these subscriptions on the website homepage.

Hope this helps and good luck with the upgrade if you decide to do it.

Thanks Andy!  and Bartolini9 - timely warning about the possibility of bricking the head unit! Not sure I want to be the first in the UK to try it. In the TSB does it give a list of dependencies / conditions? i.e. existing head unit type and existing software number?

  14. How the hell do you actually download the files? I registered and logged in to lexus-tech.eu went to basket / add to basket / search - entered BE-00436L-TME for Lexus ES300h  model 2018 -   Clicked search and found the TSB BE-00436L-TME. There is a blue eye logo to the right clicked it and.. nothing. Tried Chrome, Firefox, made sure pop up blockers disabled, deleted cookies.. am I missing something stupid?

  15. Just to follow up - I phoned my local dealer and asked about it and they said it will be available around May / June.  Didn't discuss price. He told me we have to plug in the phone using the front USB ports to use it - that means we are back on the subject of having that damn flap open all the time! Unless I can get that low profile USB cable mentioned on here...

Apparently my car which I got in March 2019 is an ES1 and this years are referred to as ES2 and have Carplay and AA built in.

On a side note I have had 2 hire cars recently one of which was a low spec Seat Leon which had AA and a touch screen! I was wonderful and worked really well! I am even more mystified why a premium brand Lexus still has no touch screen, or even last year AA and car play.

  16. Hello all.

I seem to remember that when my ES was new and I connected my phone on receipt of an SMS it would offer to read it / read it automatically. Lately and for a while now, and several phones l.ater, it does not. I can go into the menu and get it to do it manually ok. I get the drop down notification and nothing happens. Yes the option in the menu to read out messages is set to yes. All other functions work ok  I have just unpaired and reconnected the phone and it's still the same.

Is my recollection correct and if so any suggestions?
