Two lots of Lexus motor racing action for you this weekend, you lucky things. First, in Germany will be the final 2018 Blancpain GT Sprint Cup round from the Nurburgring (not the Nordschleife, just the GP circuit). You can find details here, and there will be live streaming on YouTube here. The two Emil Frey Lexus aren't in contention for Sprint Cup unfortunately, and it looks like a it will be between the R8s of Belgian Audi Club Team WRT and the AMG GTs of AKKA ASP. Second, on the other side of the world in Japan, the various LCs in GT500 and the RC-Fs in GT300 will be competing in SuperGT at Sugo. There are two more rounds still to go, so a lot still to play for. Hopefully, live streaming will be available here. Good luck Lexus!

Very nice Jeff, welcome to the LOC.

Now the embargo is lifted, lots of videos have appeared today of the cars being driven round Stockholm. Also written reviews are up on Autocar, Autoexpress and Car websites, more to follow I'm sure. I'll be interested to see this 'in the metal' when it hits the showrooms and how much of a hatchet-job the UK magazines do on it when finally available in UK spec... Meanwhile, just an excuse for em to post a proper photo of a UX in Terrane Khaki (thanks Richard!):

Makes a nice change for there to be so many colours that aren't "eleven shades of grey"; well done Lexus. And how encouraging to see that the chief engineer for the project was a woman.

Hi Paul, welcome to the forum. You'll find it an invaluable resource, I'm sure. And before someone else says it, "...post us some pictures of your car!" 😁

Ah, the joys of Lexus ownership! Not many cars will go ten years without the kind of problem where you need to look for help on a forum like this. -
I didn't set much store by the images when they popped up in a Google Images search, but I see the pale blue 'custom' UX is actually featured on the Lexus Blog. Interestingly, it says "...the modified UX has been transformed with a choice selection of aftermarket products, some of which are also due for imminent release..." What a strange motoring landscape we have where a perfectly good hatchback can be pumped up to be a crossover and then lowered again to make it more sporty (except Lexus have missed out the first part, unlike some other manufacturers).

Texas jury awards $242 million damages in Lexus crash
gdh300 replied to Thackeray's topic in Motoring Legal Issues
Wow, potential can of worms opened there. Devastating for the family clearly, I wonder how many more are affected by a type of accident? Most car design concentrates on frontal impacts, and more recently side impacts, I don't recall any NCAP, etc. test specifically evaluating rear impacts. Interesting it concerns a 2002 Lexus involved in an accident in 2016, seemingly no statute of limitation here as far as the NHTSA are concerned. -
It's unusual to see Lexus being mentioned on Honest John, so I thought I would share a link to a query this week which may be of interest to anyone with a IS300h. The page is here, and if you scroll about a third of the way down you'll see "Pain in Spain". I guess 'DC, North Ferriby' isn't on here?

Hi Michael, welcome to the LOC. Looking forward to your photos. The last stop gap car I bought I kept for five years and about 80,000 miles, so it does happen!

Is it this? It's the same colour and it is a - ahem - flagship.

From reading about on the internet, I think it will depend on his insurer. I checked my policy, and no where are there specific exclusions for 'water' or 'flood', or even the old favourite 'acts of God' (whoever your god may be). Also it is how his statement is written. In the other thread he says "...and was getting dark. I was in a country lane driving 30 to 35 on 40 because I was unfamiliar with the road..." That's more favourable than if he had stopped, got out looked at it, and decided to proceed. Unfortunately you only find out how good an insurer is when you have to make a claim. Some of these cheap insurers you get on the comparison websites, makes you wonder doesn't it?
-
You'd like to think so wouldn't you, otherwise what do we pay through the nose for? I would have thought their assessor will take one look at it and write-it off. Must admit, I have no idea if on my own policy if there are any exclusions around flooding. I suppose they will differentiate in their weasily way between you driving into a flood, and a flood coming to your parked car.

Lexus Service, first time customer, not impressed
gdh300 replied to Zubair's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
By the look of this picture, the intake is via the slots in the plastic bonnet shut (much like my old IS). It would take some doing to get water up there in significant quantities. I suppose another possibility is if there are any open-to-atmosphere breathers on the engine or transmission, although I think nowadays they are a bit of an environmental no-no. -
Lexus will be in action at Laguna Seca this weekend for the penultimate round of the IMSA Weathertech Series. 'Penultimate round', eh? Where has the year gone! 3GT Racing are having a good season with their RC-Fs, and the last race was a cracker, proper edge of the seat stuff. If you have a spare half hour, watch the conclusion of the race below, where you will join the GTD race-within-a-race with Dominic Baumann (car #14) in P4... https://youtu.be/w_gjBheLQVo?t=2h11m14s Meanwhile, it is the Goodwood Revival this weekend. I shouldn't mention it here of course, Lexus is far to young a company to have any representation there! However, if you have a chance try to catch some of it on their YouTube live stream. It's a great opportunity to see some magnificent old cars being hurled round a track, just as they should be.

If you cannot choose lexus what brand would you go for?
gdh300 replied to dutchie01's topic in Lexus General Discussions
The majority of JLR owners must be happy I'm sure, they aren't that bad (what cars are nowadays?). But the reported incidents seem high for what is marketed as a 'premium' brand. I guess it shows how the meaning of the word 'premium' has shifted in the car world; soft touch plastics in the passenger footwell seems to be the measure now rather than the longevity of the water pump, etc. That, and being "reassuringly expensive" (the profit on the more expensive Range Rovers is staggering). Cynics together! Fleet sales (witness long service intervals on BMWs for example) and selling finance to private buyers (that's almost everyone in the UK it appears!), that's where the money is made now. As long as they get a good resale figure after three years they are happy to wash their hands of the cars, it appears. -

Not stellar, not for a car that has only been out what, three years? Have a look here. Reportedly they drive very well good - which is what counts - but having sat in one, I can't say the inside was "wow, that's impressive". But to be honest, I' think I'd be wary of any JLR product; reading HJ there are a lot of expensive repairs mentioned. Buying one would be heart-over-head. -
I wouldn't ford anything that was higher than the sills in any car. Easy to say from the comfort of my sofa, but I suppose I've been lucky I've never been confronted with a flood somewhere I didn't know, or where it wasn't possible to judge the depth. I'm sure if it's not above the sills, any electrics associated with a hybrid system would be fine, assuming there isn't a huge bow wave! But it's interesting what Roger says about the exhaust of the IS300h. With a manual car or a torque converter automatic it's possible to keep the revs up while going slowly (like our dads taught us!), but can you do that with a hybrid? The 'disconnect' between the ICE and the pedal makes that difficult I'd have thought? Can you even ensure the ICE is running as you go through at slow speed?

I had a set of Avon WV7s on 16" aftermarket alloys for my IS300. Never had the opportunity to test them on any significant snow but they were very assured in low temperatures and/or muddy/slimy lanes. Probably not the best winter tyre but a very good price, and any winter tyre is better than in summer tyre in winter, that was my feeling. That, and a bit of common of when to judge it is just too bad to go out! [this set of wheels and tyres is now with another member of this forum] On my car previous to the Lexus, I also had a set of winters (Toyos, I think) and they were a revelation in some proper snow.

Can I retract my inclusion of Jaguar in my list? I've been idly looking at secondhand pre-owned XEs but have just come across all the faults reported on their forums! Er, no thanks... -
For the avoidance of doubt and without prejudice, I'm sure you meant to type "...100km/h alongside the river down at Monmouth..." 😉
