Carbon fibre interior upgrades
Toothy replied to V8ORBUST's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
I'd be a little hesitant to put CF on my wheel. Finish would need to be excellent as you'll be touching it all the time. These parts will be lacquered to provide the gloss finish, I'm not certain how well that will hold up being handled all the time. Essentially it's a painted finish and subject to wear. Additionally depending on the resin system used, they can yellow over time from sunlight. I don't think the silver "alu-fibre" would look very good next to traditional carbon twill, if you're going to change some I'd think you'd want to change it all. Maybe look at wrapping console / door trims instead. A lot cheaper and easy to revert. -
In industry they're called exhaust "collectors". The reason they exist is to allow for a much tighter fit between the exhaust trim and the rest of the body. Disconnecting them from the exhaust system means they don't need a massive clearance around them, and can therefore be styled a lot better for visual... in most cases.

That's an unusual shade of red 😉 Excellent news, enjoy! Where did you purchase from?

If you pay to become a gold member, I believe Lexus dealerships will fix punctures for free. Never had to use it yet, thankfully.

Can try holding brake with left foot, and build some revs with accelerator as the christmas tree goes through its sequence. No delay for switching pedals, compared to if you were holing brake with right foot. Plus you've built some pressure up in the torque converter to launch quicker. In theory.

Bought this magazine because of one thing

Take a snap of the bit about Lexus and their conclusions. I'm cheap and don't want to buy a copy 😉 -
F cars and brake dust
Toothy replied to Flytvr's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
Looks like a lot of rust, more than dust from the pads. Car might have been stood a while. What do people use on their wheels to make this easier to clean. I've tried poorboys wheel sealant, but doesnt seem to really help. Also very difficult to get the stuck on dust off. It likes to build into hard scabs that wont budge. -
Nothing different reliability wise between all the F's. Servicing is mostly the same cost too. RC-F might be a touch more but nothing significant. I think the later ISFs are holding their value slightly better than the equivalent RC-F due to their practicality, and being the very last always holds a little premium. IS-F is easier to live with if you have children for example. Interesting to see what other people's opinion on this is. I'd go for a GS-F if you need the extra space or want the presence of a larger car. If not, get an RC-F if in budget and suitable for your needs, or an earlier IS-F.

Private number plate suggestions
Toothy replied to Vlady's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
You might need to send your current V5 off with the application. I can't remember. It will all be very clear on the paperwork theyre sending you. Unfortunately I believe you will need to order your own plates. Lots of cars have different sized plates, wouldn't be viable for the DVLA to supply them. -

When you get that letter, that will be the certificate showing you own the plate. Fill you car details in and send it off. You'll get a new V5C amended with your new reg. In the mean time you can get your physical plates ordered ready to swap over when the new V5C comes through. -
Lexus Coventry. Brilliant service!
Toothy replied to PRT68's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
Coincidentally, my IS-F was in for a service at Coventry at exactly the same time. Dropped it off at 8am Tuesday. It was possibly in the workshop by the time you got there. Agree the customer service is excellent. Tom is a great bloke, the team really go the extra mile. When they do make mistakes they are always quick to rectify them and generously reimburse their customers in anyway they can. I got a tin of Lexus sweets left on my passenger seat this time! My family and I have been buying and servicing cars for over 10 years with them now, and quite happy to continue doing so for the foreseeable future. Luckily I work right around the corner from them, so very convenient for me too. -
Private number plate suggestions
Toothy replied to Vlady's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
Yes, it's supposed to have a BS number and the details of the plate manufacturer. Or something like that. Technically the plates are incorrect if they don't have this. I ordered mine from eBay and was able to find sellers which don't put this info on. Looks much cleaner without. -

No change to insurance for me either. I'd advise looking directly at the dvla website to purchase, was the cheapest for me. Unless you find something you like at auction (including ebay). Update on the spacing, had mine incorrect for 18 months now and not been pulled for it, yet. -
If I had an older / higher mileage F or otherwise reason to change I'd be very interested in this. I'd have expected to pay more than £26K to get it too! I wish him the very best in finding the correct buyer. I really want this to go to someone with the same passion he has and will continue to look after it. Hopefully will get to see it at a future meet sometime.

Centre Tachometer
Toothy replied to Charliecloud's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
Mines a 2011, with two dials rather than one. Quite normal. -
some new additions for the F
Toothy replied to Twellsie's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
Excellent choice. Gold on black, adding any JPS livery stickers? 😄 Thumbs up for sticking with BBS like the OEM wheels. -
Hazy front emblem
Toothy replied to giorgoXXI's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
Try some headlight polish, if the badge is like that I suspect the headlights could do with a touch up too. Just use a good wax to protect it, and give it more shine. -
You do get a free hot/cold drink if you pay, non-alcoholic.

Look whats turned up on ebay
Toothy replied to gb1600e's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
I believe this was the ex-police car. If social media is to be believed. -
Let me just say I appreciate the effort Dan. For me, cost is too high. I suspect many will feel the same. Not to say that the parts are over-priced. My job is to design and manufacture things like this in composite materials, so I fully understand the effort/time needed to design, tool and make these.

Low Oil Level Warning
Toothy replied to Toothy's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
Lexus Coventry were super helpful and friendly as always. Good news is that the oil level sensor is separate to the oil pressure sensors (of which there is one for engine and one for gearbox). So nothing wrong with the engine or oil system (pump, etc). Bad news is that if it does fail, the sensor is around £240! Plus fitting. They have never ordered one before, so unlikely it's a common fault. I'm going to monitor it, if it doesn't get worse or fail totally they will clean the sensor during it's next service in a few months. Chances are it's just sticking a little and giving a false reading.
