A bit of an exaggeration, but having driven my IS recently in heavy rain it seems very sensitive to standing water, last week I hit some standing water at 70 with the cruise control on the car snatched which turned the cruise of, I'm guessing the traction/stability control cut in which then turns the cruise control off. Again today at 65-70 mph on a dual carriageway it was constantly snatching and drifting, needing constant adjustment to keep it straight. The tyres have about 15k on so still decent tread, I am experienced, but have never driven a car which needs so much attention in heavy rain, I can only put it down to the needlessly wide tyres.

My daughters yaris has these, but is 12 years old with 110,000 miles on, and I would say they have been worthwhile as the plastic shows signs of stone chipping, which would otherwise have damaged the paintwork. My silver IS is the same, showing dirt around the edges, I suggest posting on www.detailingworld.co.uk someone will give suggestions pretty quickly.

Well, just checked, and I have a jack - seems a bit pointless without a spare though?

I'll have to check mine, I had assumed if there was no spare, there was no need for a jack?

Is that wheel and tyre? Have you also got a jack?

You would have thought so, but unfortunately I don't think it is.

I thought exactly the same, fortunately with the reversing camera one is adequate (unless the lens is covered in spray! ) On an old golf we had, that only had one rear fog, all that was needed was to snap out the metal in the bulb holder and fit a bulb and it worked, I don't thinit would be so simple in the IS.

I think a lot is down to the tyres, we have ridiculously wide tyres which have a big impact on our mpg, I can get 60 (as measured by the car) quite easily on individual trips, but tend to be about 46mpg over a tank (doing quite a few short trips) the op has an advance which has "wide" but not ridiculously wide tyres.

That's probably the issue - the international prefix, as the system cannot link the incoming number with the number stored, it presumably uses all the numbers, not just the last 10 to identify a caller?

Not noticed the brake lights, but since I have had mine, I have done very little night driving, so will find out soon as the evenings get darker. It doesn't surprise me if the car only applies the brake lights when actually slowing down, that makes sense, as they are only there to warn other drivers you are slowing down, it would also make sense if they didn't apply them whilst sat at traffic lights, or even used the rear sensors to know when there was traffic behind the car, and turned them off then, maybe that's wishful thinking?

I agree the is powertrain may have helped, but even in the is, you would struggle to achieve 50mpg average, I think you are being unrealistic expecting 50mpg+.

Not when you consider the RX450h does 35mpg on motorways in Sport mode with 5 people so basically you're trading 7mpg for 100 less hp, less weight, 1000cc and 2 cylinders less and skinnier tyres. And the NX refinement doesn't really come close to the RX either. It's a 10 mpg difference but Martins 45 mpg was an average not a motorway figure, realistically, how much would you expect a 2 tonne petrol auto a wd to achieve? I think few similar size diesels would achieve an average of 4 mpg.

Thanks Colin, since I've had the car I have tended to"play" with the paddles to slow down, is there any benefit to this, such as regenerating more or less brake wear, than just using the brakes and keeping the needle of the bottom?

Since purchase of my is300h I have used the tacho rather than economy gauge, but have gone back to using the economy gauge again and notice when braking or slowing down with the gears the needle goes into the charge section, am I right in thinking initial braking is done by regenerative braking until the needle reaches the bottom of the gauge, then the friction brakes take over?

An average of 45mpg is as good if not better than you would get from a comparable diesel such as a bmw x3 , which is pretty good for a petrol suv especially given the refinement of the NX.

5.0 locked to Vodafone, so is their most upto date update.

My Samsung Galaxy S5 has started occasionally showing emails, and yesterday even showed a text, I have not done anything so not sure why, all just so inconsistent.

Anyone get it to work with a galaxy s5? I intermittently get emails through, but no longer texts.

Sorry my mistake, I am sure when I looked earlier they were the same! I would imagine the NX would struggle, with 10% less power, and presumably extra weight.

That's interesting, as far as I was aware the engines were the same, the specs on Lexus web site shows identical power/torque.

Really? How is it different? I thought they were both 2.5ltr 4 cylinder engines?

With regards official figures they are just that, lexus are not allowed to produce anything else, they are only allowed to publish figures which have been arrived at from a set routine. They, like all manufacturers are guilty of optimising the cars to produce good figures. I can't speak about the NX, but I have an IS with the same engine, and with careful diving, not ridiculously slow can achieve figures above the official figures over quite a long distance, so at least with the IS the figures are achievable.
