  1. The wheels and tyres are all new, in an attempt to solve the two problems but have made no difference. I've also changed the disks and pads, still no difference. So I need to look deeper.
  2. The bumping noise is all the time but until today I was the only one who could hear it but whilst driving about 10mph in a motorway jam, my wife could hear it too.
  3. Does anyone else's front tyres scrub on full lock (2008 GS450h)? It's more noticeable in reverse. I've also got a bump, bump, bump noise, in time with wheel rotation, despite having new disks, pads, wheels and tyres. It's always seemed to have done it and has been serviced by Lexus, who could find no faults and it's MOTd twice too since I bought it. Any ideas.
  4. I have nothing but the reg number on mine. I refused to advertise the dealer and that flag will never be displayed on anything of mine. I had the cross of St George on my Chevy but I think is was the misplaced numbers that the policeman took a dislike to. :) Car HDR.jpg by John Pate, on Flickr
  5. Mine sounds like a bunch of nuts and bolts in a tin can but Lexus have serviced it and say everything is OK.
  6. When changing my disks and pads, I thought my parking brake shoes were very worn but when the new ones arrived they looked just the same, so I didn't bother changing them, so it may not be the shoes.
  7. Post Codes make a huge difference. I have the same cover as this with LV for £350 but unfortunately don't live in Cheshire, like John :). I noticed my premiums rise when I moved from rural Leicestershire, to Blackpool.
  8. Just tell them that Lexus will be doing the work. If they won't accept that, get a quote from Lexus and I'll give you another for five grand. :)
  9. Mine has seat cooling but I've never had to use it, so it shouldn't be a deal buster. Full service history and recent Hybrid Health inspection is a must.
  10. They usually put a dye into the system, then run it to see where it comes out. It's all done on the same machine, so I'm surprised they didn't do it there and then.
  11. Most garages will check your system for leaks. It could be something simple, like a loose joint. It may just need re-gassing. They check for leaks during the process because they're not allowed to put refrigerant into a system with a leak.
  12. BTW I got a pair of calipers from Lexus Bolton for £75 each. There's a thread about it somewhere. :)
  13. Just got the driver's headrest and lumbar switch to sort and it will be perfect. :)
  14. I finished up with a good car but only because I could fix it myself. I replaced the disc, pads and calipers. It's been service by Lexus a couple of times and received a clean bill of health. I also had a fresh set of wheels and tyres, so all in it cost about £1500 to put it right and now I'm very pleased with it. IMG_2010 by John Pate, on Flickr
  15. The AC is driven by electric from the traction battery, so the AC still works whilst the petrol engine is not running. The power steering and brake assist are also electric for the same reasons.
  16. If it was a white car that hit you, it may just be paint of that car and will polish out. If it's gone through the paint to the primer, there's not really an alternative to painting.
  17. Mine does that too but it passed its health check with no problems. When the gauge shows dead flat, you still have 65% charge. Don't panic, it's normal. :)
  18. Manufacturers sealed for life claims, doesn't mean forever. I don't know how old you car is but a fluid and filter change would be my first action. I had a BMW 525 E39 a while ago, a fluid change on the "sealed for life transmission", made a world of difference
  19. http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/fact-or-fiction-premium-g/ Read the whole article if you like but here's the conclusion. But for standard cars on the road today, purchasing premium gasoline is simply paying a premium for a fuel that delivers no added benefits. "If you think you need it," Green says, "you're being very eccentric."
  20. Premium grade fuel is no better or worse than regular, it's just designed for different vehicles. Using it in a vehicle designed for regular fuel just adds more chemicals to simulate a lead additive, which our engines are not designed to accommodate, so could, in fact, do more harm than good. Unless the manufacturer advises premium fuel, don't waste your money.
  21. It depends on how long it's been sat in the petrol station tank. I'd stop using premium if I were you because the turn over is much less and you don't really need it. The only advantage of premium fuel is the higher octane rating, which is required for some high performances cars with a higher compression ratio. In a cars designed to run on regular, you're just wasting your money.
  22. I once wintered my Corvette with a full tank (as recommended) never again. I had to drain it and clean all the lumps out of the carburetor.
