  1. I don't think so, it more rhythmic, sort of like a lump on a tyre but it's not that because the tyres have been replaced.
  2. I've had a strange noise since I bought my GS450h last year, not major but annoying. It's not loud but it's there all the time when cruising at motorway speeds. I thought it was out of true discs because it that familiar bump, bump, bump sound but there was no change when braking. I recently renewed the discs and pads anyway but there is no difference. It passed the MOT with no problems, so it doesn't look as though anything is likely to fall off. Any ideas?
  3. If I were you I'd leave the sensors where they are and buy new. The threaded valve is alloy and will be corroded, they'll probably break getting them off, mine did. These from ebay, have replaceable valves. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4x-TPMS-tyre-pressure-sensors-valves-for-LEXUS-GS-300-NEW-/301839822641?hash=item46470e2f31:g:nJQAAOSwX~dWh-Ns You can also put the broken ones in the spare tyre but they'll be destroyed if you use it or make a pressurised container to fool the system. http://www.scionlife.com/forums/scion-xb-2nd-gen-wheel-tire-1796/tpms-pvc-trick-works-updated-w-pics-144818/
  4. The 2.5lt engine in my BMW 525i used to return about 30mpg. So the 30-35 return from the 3.5lt GS450h is, considering the extra performance, much, much better. If you buy a saloon car, which can out perform many sports cars, you can't expect it to be lean and green too.
  5. Anything that goes 0-62 in 5.9 is not an old man's car. Expect 30-35 for 'normal' driving. If you're looking to go 'Green' this ain't the car for you, the 450h is a performance car.
  6. I went through the same process and dismissed Lexus totally because of the problems with the first of the V6s. However I wrote to Lexus and they explained that, there were problems with cars supplied in the USA but the same problem was not evident in Europe. They went on to say that the issue had never been a problem anywhere with the 450h V6s. I decided to buy the Hybrid for peace of mind. No doubt the GS300 guys will be around soon to dispel your fears.
  7. I wouldn't change the cluster if I were you. I don't know if Lexus have the same idea as BMW but I was going to do the same with my BMW but members of the BMW forum said No, No, No. Apparently mileage is recorded in several places throughout the vehicle and unless they all tally, the mileage tamper indicator will activate. This condition will remain of course because there will be a mismatch between the cluster and the rest of the car by the amount of mileage you did during the swap. Tread carefully
  8. I think you can set the levels using Tech Stream. If they're set at 20psi that's when the light comes on.
  9. I've emailed Lexus in Bolton about exchange wheels but they have yet to reply, so that option is not looking too promising.
  10. If your only worry is the CVT, just buy it. Other than the lack of gear shifts, there's no difference to a normal auto and there's less moving parts too.
  11. Have you thought of buying a set of steels and fitting a set of winter tyres. You're then free to take your alloys for refurb.
  12. Not as easy as it sounds. With after market, you order them online, have them delivered, take them to your local garage and get them swapped. With refurbishing, you have to take the wheels off, remove the tyres, take them to wherever, return after a week and do it all again in reverse.
  13. Don't forget to check the compatibility of the tyre pressure sensors. Stock sensors may not fit after market wheels.
  14. Thinking about it, I can't remember if it has been right since I picked it up from the MOT garage. Someone playing with gadgets methinks. That's my story and I'm sticking with it. :)
  15. Thanks, I thought I'd broke it. :) Don't know how I did it though, old age is beginning to show.
  16. Can't think that I've changed anything. If I disconnect the battery does it return to default or is there a flash memory for settings?
  17. My 2008 GS450h has developed a problem. When reversing, the guide lines on the screen don't operate like they used to. Instead of the lines showing the projected direction, I just see a green square and as I turn to wheel from lock to lock a red rectangle appears at the side of the screen. There is also a message about over steering after about a half turn in either direction. This only seems to happen with the car in reverse. I've not checked the codes yet but I thought I'd ask to see if anyone else has had this problem. The car performs normally in every other respect.
  18. I saw my battery indicator turn green the other day, for only the second time since owning the car. I'd been to Burnley for the morning and decided to go to the top of Crown Point to eat my lunch, whilst admiring the view over Pendle. When I set off down the hill the indicator was blue, a couple of bars from the top. By the time I got to the bottom the indicator had turned green and stayed green until I got to the M65, three miles away. Do other people see green more often or is it unusual to have a fully charged battery?
  19. Changing the fluid and filter would be my first step. Drain and flush a couple of times to ensure the fluid in the torque converter is changed too. When a manufacturer says sealed for life, they don't mean forever and when a car gets to be 10 years old, they've lost interest. However it's usually the fluid that's past its best, not the transmission. Take it to your local garage, they'll be happy to do it for you. If that doesn't work, a second hand unit, from a breakers, is probably your best bet and your local garage, again, should be happy to fit it for you. Filters are available so it is possible. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Transmission-Filter-Kit-for-Lexus-GS430-2001-ON-A650E-WCTK114-RTK102-/181849952903?hash=item2a571a1287:g:dz4AAOSw0JpV4LBy
  20. if you mean hybrid battery solutions - he is in northampton - so not the same company Yes he's the guy I was thinking of. Same price though.
  21. The facelift was introduced in early 2008. Some 2008 will be non facelift, so it's dangerous to make an assumption on that basis.
