  1. Yes. I've heard that some people have put the sensors in the spare tyre. This of course renders the spare useless.
  2. Unless they search the car for cheat devices, I think it would pass anyway. It's not like the system is disabled because the warning light illuminates to show the system is working, then goes out to indicate alls well.
  3. I had a new set of wheels fitted yesterday and as suspected, the sensors wouldn't fit in the new wheels. Or so the guy said who tried to sell me a set of after market ones, for four hundred quid. I thought they may break the valve stems trying to get them out anyway, so I'd already made some provisions. Having driven without TPMS for nearly fifty years, it's not something I'm likely to miss but the warning light on the dash could get to be a pain. So here's how I sorted it. I ordered an aluminium box from Ebay, drilled a 7/16 hole in the side, fitted one of the sensors in the hole and put the other three in loose. I then sealed the top with silicon sealer, screwed it down and pressurised it to 35psi and put it in the boot. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/380809216904?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Job done, no warning light. This may be of some use to people who have two sets of wheels. Winter/summer tyres etc.
  4. Mine didn't smell or at least I didn't notice a smell. I'd give them a ring.
  5. You can check at the Lexus web site. https://forms.toyota.co.uk/lexus-recall-checker?_ga=1.208169746.1261569455.1464445618
  6. The battery doesn't have to be massive because it just has to fire up the computers. The heavy load stuff is done by the traction battery.
  7. I'm not sure but I think the extra bits are just a temperature sensor. Lexus will tell you that you need the Lexus battery but they would wouldn't they.
  8. My iPhone 4 connected to my 08 GS no problem but the phone book wouldn't transfer. I borrowed a 2016 IS, the iPhone connected no problem and all my contact were there as well. So it appears the later models Bluetooth is superior. BTW I've switched to a Nokia Windows 10 phone now and still can't transfer the contacts to the 08 GS. :(
  9. Iffy say he is looking for a 2008 or later, the GS430 was not available in 2008. The CVT is an awesome gearbox. which is much less complex than a standard auto.
  10. I think you can drive the car without the key being present until you turn it off. After that it will not start again without the key. I sometimes give my keys to my son, to unlock our driveway gate, then drive 400 yards to the garage, the car beeps and the red triangle lights but otherwise it drives fine.
  11. Make sure the 2012 maps are for the 2007 car, not the 2012 car. I think they may be HD based anyway.
  12. Later, if not latest nav disks can be found on ebay. One of these is a cheap fix for MP3 player connection. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Audio-Tape-Cassette-To-Jack-AUX-For-IPOD-MP3-IPhone-ITouch-HTC-3-5-mm-/261023658920?hash=item3cc638f3a8:g:lAsAAOxycSdR3np~
  13. I can only speak from personal experience. I judge a car after the first year of ownership by asking myself, 'would I consider buying another' there have been many cars over the years where the answer has been, 'probably not'. I've just come to the end of the first year with the GS450h and the answer is, 'absolutely yes'.
  14. GS450h, costs a little more but................................ GS300 has less power, uses more fuel and costs more to tax.
  15. Nokia seem to be the best for compatibility so I've bought a Lumia 650, only £135 from Amazon. Very surprised It lifted the data from the iPhone but I can't check out the rest of the functions until the nano sim arrives from EE. Thanks for the help, I let you know if it all works OK later.
  16. The IS300h that I borrowed a couple of weeks ago was brilliant insofar as the phonebook was available without me having to do anything. I just paired the phone and all the numbers were available.
  17. I'm long over due a new phone, it looks like the iPhone is going. Any recommendations? Nokia, LG, Samsung? I'm not really into web surfing on the phone, just calls and texts really.
  18. Apple seem very reluctant to allow you to transfer data to other devices. Eg you can transfer Android to Apple via iCloud but not Apple to Android. They don't provide software for people to leave them.
  19. There's scroll bars on the left of the screen when adding numbers but they're always greyed out, so only six places available. I could live with having to enter the few numbers I use manually but six is insufficient. .
  20. I'm trying to transfer the contacts from my iPhone 4 to my 2008 GS450h and failing miserably. It tried to do this when I first got the car but couldn't sort it, so I just added home and a couple of numbers I used most. As I'm picking some friends up tomorrow, I tried to add their numbers manually but it seems I can only add six number manually. I had to delete my son's mobile to add the new numbers. I then tried again for an hour with out success to transfer the whole phone book. Any ideas?
