  1. I am not 100% sure but I think because it is to small to have an internal battery or a capacitor then it has to have power to close the file when the car power is switched off. I wired it up and it worked ok. I was just a little worried about a relatively low priced item having permanent power but it was double fused and there was never a problem with it so probably being over cautious. Ed
  2. A slight scratch can easily be polished out if it is just affects the clear laquer I had several on my is300 infact all the panels has scratches and swirls caused I think by dealer washes and a years worth of automatic car washes. I dealt with them by hand with a medium cut (Menzerna) polish of the complete panels which now look superb. It was easy by hand to so confirms that Lexus paint is quite soft. I have also tried some Meguires Scratch X which worked well on individual marks. Whatever you do go carefully and dont over do it. Afterwards I applied a good quality Wax to preserve the shine. My car now looks like a one year old car should & not how the Lexus dealer supplied it. I was stupid enough to pay for Superguard. A complete waste of money, the only part that was applied properly was the windscreen sticker although even that is wonky. Ed :ooh-ducky:
  3. I had this type in my previous car as it had a in dash DVD with an av input so didnt need a screen on the camera. The only issue was it required a permanent live feed as well as a switched 12v. Ed
  4. I was thinking more of the way it blocks forward vision so you don't see the person about to cross the road. As long as you are happy with it.
  5. I was expecting a professional install not the standard suction mount!! Why do you need to see the screen? I would find that very distracting!! What did they charge to fit it? Once you have set it up why not move the mount higher up and then it will not be seen so much from the outside? Ed :ooh-ducky:
  6. It does look close but not scraped it yet and sometimes park closer!! I did though kerb the alloy a bit last week Ed :ooh-ducky:
  7. I am 6ft tall and find my IS F Sport very comfortable and easy to get in and out of. The seat base on my car is electric & does tilt and move every way you would expect it to. You really would have to sit in one and try the adjustment to know for sure if you are comfortable though. My Car has loads of power in standard drive and it is pretty fast in Sport mode. It is not a track racing car, more suited to driving on public roads!! I have not noticed any delay?? The 30 to 70 mph is among the best in class. It is rapid away from line which I like for nipping into gaps. My MPG averages 40 to 45 mixed normal style driving. Nothing wrong with the Sat Nav. The graphics are clear and easy to read. I found the menu a little odd at first as only ever used a TomTom but I am used to it now. I was very close to buying a Jag XF. I like you thought the CVT would feel slow and unresponsive. After a test drive I canceled the XF and bought the Lexus. Delighted with it to. Motoring hacks know nothing other than their opinion. Some said it had delay & some said it was fast!! They seem to be more influenced by how fast it can go round a test track. I didnt buy mine to do that! The refinement and lack of diesel clatter particularly in slow traffic is superb. No DPF to clog up & overall reliability are an added bonus to imho. I also love the look of it. Lexus are or were offering 24 hour test drives. Ed I wanted a White F Sport but glad I went for Mesa Red which now has a lovely deep shine thanks to a polish glaze and a wax.
  8. It is beautiful in white it was the colour I wanted but could not find one so went for Mesa Red instead which now I have polished does look (almost) as good. Say no to dealer washes and mechanical car washes I sure do wish the previous owner of mine had. Saying that it has responded well to a hand polish and a wax. Ed
  9. Post a picture of the installation. It would be nice to see how Halfords do it. Ed
  10. I routed the cable across the top of the windscreen under the headlining and down the inside of the door pillar trim, cable tied under the dash and tucked in along the center console to the 12v socket where I have a splitter so can still use the socket. The cable is not seen until it enters the console by the seat belt stalk. Black cable on the black console it is not noticeable . This saved me tapping into wires in the fuse box which on a newish car with a warranty I didn't want to touch. Ed.
  11. I have not experienced this. Have you checked that you have the latest firmware? Ed
  12. Topaz isn't a polish though as it has no cut. Looks like good stuff but will not remove scratches and swirls but will fill them. Depends if you want to remove or mask them. The G3 then a coat of wax seems a good choice. Ed
  13. The finish on a new car should look like glass with no imperfections. My F-sport was purchased at a year old and has suffered from dealer washes and I suspect mechanical car washes to. Once polished however it looks superb with a deep gloss shine and only now am I seeing how nice the Mesa Red looks. Supergard on paint in good condition is one thing but applying it over scratches & swirls is pointless. Ed.
  14. I believe a polish which is silicone free is ok to use. I have Superguard but I doubt it was applied properly. My car has a few scratches and I can definitely see swirls pretty much all over it. I have polished the passenger door and waxed and it looks superb. Stuff the Superguard my top quality wax is better. Just got to do the rest of it now. Ed.
  15. My Fsport has the quite a few scratches the worst ones on the front passenger door. Not deep fortunately. I used a Menzerna medium cut polish( by hand) and got rid of them. I clayed first and then a nice layer of wax. I would have got the DA polisher out but at present we are living in a 2nd floor flat so no access to power. The finish is superb and surprisingly easy to achieve by hand so guess the Lexus paint must be soft. No more dealer washes its the pressure wash and the gritty rag effect. I have no idea what self healing paint is?? Ed.
  16. DAB is digital like an Mp3 and only at around 128k. Imagine ripping a CD at 128k. You would need 256k or imho 320k to keep the quality and detail of the original. DAB will be either on or off so no fading or hiss. FM probably will sound better if the signal strength is very strong but will fade and suffer from background hiss when the signal strength drops. I find the DAB in my car sounds better because there is no background hiss whereas the FM fades in and out a little. I would say it depends where you are in relation to the transmitter. Ed

  18. Its a fantastic looking car and I look and think one day I will have one of those and then remember that I have!! enjoy it. Ed
  19. Mounted by the rear view mirror is where most have them. On mine the screen switches off after a minute or two. The best thing about a fixed installation is fit and forget until needed. Ed.
  20. Sport mode makes the car more responsive and I think it tightens the steering up to. I kind of agree speed and boy racer driving is not its usp but it's there if you want it. When I tried it my car flew. Ed.
  21. My post was more to garner if my dealer is typical or just one of the poorer ones. I wasn't asking for advice on how to resolve the issues I had. Maybe everyone else's experience is perfect!! My F-Sport is pretty close to perfect now I am settled in. Ed.
  22. I spoke to the dealer "face to face" thats why they did the service. Thanks for the advice though not. I expected the car to be spotless but perhaps I was expecting to much. I didn't immediately notice the dirt so told them the next day. Why would it be even slightly acceptable for me to arrive and then sit there for an hour and a half and then say they have not got the parts. A phone call in the morning and the appointment could have been rearranged. The receptionist could have been told by the service manager. Do you honestly feel that it is just a rant and unreasonable to have expected a higher standard? BMW & Audi dealers dont do that well in surveys whereas Lexus come top. Thats why I was expecting better from them. They only offer a hamper if you recommend them for having impeccable service but imho they do not. I didn't post on here expecting them to read although on the Jag XF forum the customer service guy does read and did respond to posts. The reason for "ranting" on here is to see if my dealer is just not very good or if it is it normal. I may try a different one next time. Ed.
  23. I have read lots of reports of how marvelous Lexus dealers are, the best for customer service and how they come top in surveys. My local dealer is not great. They are polite enough but no better than any other dealer for other makes. Last week I sat in the show room for an hour and a half for them to tell me the parts were not in stock for the warranty repair that I had booked in a week earlier. They called the day before to remind me of my appointment to. When I first collected my car it looked clean but there was dust and dirt down the sides of the seats ect When I put the sun visor down there was a spiders web complete with a egg sack hanging down quite disgusting!! My impression so far is not great. The is300H F-sport is 10/10 but Lexus dealer more like 2/10. A few days afterwards they sent me one of those "are you happy with your Lexus" emails. I filled it in! I then got a service for free so at least I dont have to go near them for a year. Today they sent another email asking me to recommend them to family & friends and if I do they will give me a Fortnum & Masons hamper. I doubt I will be doing so!! Ed
  24. S mode makes the car more responsive faster acceleration etc. I have tried it and was soon at 90 and it felt like 70. The paddles will sort of change up and down but the car will override you if it decides to depending on revs they are a bit pointless imho. I drive in Normal mode most of the time. I bought an auto because I dont want manual changes!! Ed
  25. I doubt it would and how would they ever notice if say you had an engine fault. As long as it was installed correctly wired ect. The only thing holding me back is what is the advantage of doing it? I find the single reversing light bright enough and how often do you actually use rear fogs? If it made the car look better in some way then maybe different. Perfectly doable but for what benefit?? Ed
