  1. It was referring to muting radio or music playback when the sat nav lady speaks. The consensus of opinion seems to be that the is300h cannot do that. It is one of the very few niggles I have with my F-Sport. Ed
  2. But the is300h is not a diesel and not intended to be left in sport mode permanently especially not on the motorway!! I have hardly used sport mode because in normal driving it isnt required. I have had the occasional blast though!!
  3. I question if the GPS information is required. It could even incriminate you if your were say going over the speed limit even if the accident was not your fault. Thoughts? Ed.
  4. I have not connected the GPS to mine yet not convinced I need the information it embeds. The date and time however are set in the cameras menu. I pretty sure mine auto adjusted for daylight saving to. Ed.
  5. Good choice of camera I have the same one. Excellent picture quality. I chose it because it looks so similar to the way Lexus mount the mirror and the rain sensor so it looks factory fitted. My installation is shown in the beginning of this thread. Ed.
  6. I am 6ft and find my is300 Fsport very comfortable. It isnt a small car, its in the medium sector so not as big as an LS agreed!! When you say "basic" why do you think that? All is300`s are well equipped Can you elaborate? Are you sure your courtesy car wasn't a CT200? Ed
  7. The engine noise is no different to dropping into 3rd gear ready to overtake or as my previous car did kick down and rev up to give good acceleration. Quite a few of the reviews did call it whine or "annoying drone" I almost didn't even bother with a test drive after reading What Car & Auto express reviews. But I loved the look of it so did and bought one & cancelled the XF. At present I am averaging 40 mpg but have been doing short journeys with cold starts. A diesel would probably have blocked its DPF up by now!! Ed
  8. Perhaps they got confused with he slight motor noise heard at very slow speeds? It is strange to me as lots of the reviews I read mentioned the noise of the engine revving as you put your foot down. Are diesels quiet when revving I doubt it from the ones I have driven!! Or maybe they didnt turn the ASC off!! The CVT does not whine though that is utter nonsense!! Ed
  9. Autoexpress have a quick drive and then quote an opinion. I prefer to make up my own mind. I wouldn't have even test driven my IS300 Fsport if I had only read magazine reviews. They seem biased to whatever company advertise with them so best ignored. The CVT gearbox doesn't "whine" and is a quick enough car in normal mode with excellent acceleration from rest. In sport mode it is a quick car certainly as good if not better than its rivals. It isnt a track racing car agreed but I didn't buy it to go round the Nurburgring. Ed
  10. I fitted the A118 as it matches how Lexus mount the mirror & rain sensor so looks factory fitted. Ed
  11. Sorry to say but it comes across as regurgitating what you read in magazines & on the net. How do you get to drive loads of different cars & all of the Lexus range? Are you a motoring journalist? If you drove an is300h for any length of time you would have more to say than don`t like the heater sliders & a heavier gear change, whatever that means?? You would probably learn to turn off the ASC to. I am not a fan of the CT either but it looks pretty good and is perfect for some people. What did it drive like? Ed
  12. The ASC is a gimmick agreed but can be turned off. Heavier gear change? I had the choice to go diesel and was close to buying an XF. Our friends in Islingtoin are set to pay an extra £100 a year just to park a diesel on the street. Paris has banned older diesels. Other cities are set to follow. The government pushed people to buy diesels and now are starting to back track. Then there are DPF issues etc A 2500cc petrol engined car that can average 45mpg is excellent imho. My Lexus IS ticks all the boxes for me and doesnt really have a competitor. Electric power in the city and a powerful petrol engine when required is a perfect combination imho. The XE looks ok (a little dull compared to the IS) but not available until May. It to though has gone the diesel route but does have a couple of petrols but no Hybrid which could be a mistake. It is a little unfair to say the CT is glorified Prius and sorry to say also sounds a little uninformed. It does share some common drive-train components no doubt but that is where the similarity ends. Remember the Prius has been around a while & is used by taxi firms who run up astronomical mileages with excellent reliability so is well proven technology. Ed
  13. Apologies it wasn't meant to be personal. I took time choosing my is300 and am delighted with it. When you say a "CVT belongs in a Nissan Micra" it seems quite an ignorant thing to say. It is though what an uninformed motoring hack would come out with having read similar statements in various magazines. Ignoring Nissan Micras what do you think of the driving dynamics & overall package of the new shape is300h? Ed
  14. All this based on reading a few magazines. Be honest you haven't owned or driven any of the modern Lexus range have you!! I only have knowledge of the IS300H as I drive one every day. To me it is a better car than the equivalent BMW or Audi mainly as I dont want to drive a diesel. It is also better equipped looks great and enables me to drive a petrol that also has good mpg. It is also better built and has better reliability. Lexus still come top for owner satisfaction to. Doesn't sound like a "knee jerk reaction" to me. The CVT in an IS300h is a fundamentally different system to the original CVT gearboxes found in "Nissan Micras" Rather than utilise a drive belt and a conical pulley it uses a combination of planetary gears. Ed
  15. What says a lot about the current Lexus range? What? What is your opinion of the is300h? You own and drive one so ignore the press!! Dont take as gospel what motoring hacks write it is just one mans opinion. I made my own opinion of the is300h Fsport that is why I bought it not what What Car? numpties write. I get 45mpg mixed normal driving. It would no doubt be more if I drove slower and didn't use Sport mode but 45mpg from 2500cc petrol is pretty good imho. Ed
  16. Autosmart T0paz is a filler so will mask minor scratches & swirls. It gets very good reviews. I am temped with just one product rather than at least 3. I still think Chemical Guys 50/50 wax produces excellent wetlook shine on my Mesa Red IS. Maybe Topaz and then wax on top!! Ed
  17. Good to know Lexus salesman are extolling the features of the IS. More likely he did not know how to use it as it seems to work ok to me.
  18. Seen the mouldings look good. Sewells no longer supply to the UK which is a pain. I paid through the nose for the edge protectors from a Japan Ebay supplier. He does do genuine rear spoilers factory painted for less than Lexus uk charge for one in primer though. Ed
  19. What are the body coloured mouldings? Can you post a picture up? Ta Ed
  20. I have fitted a set of OEM door edge protectors to my F-Sport and am generally pleased with the result. What you get for your money is 4 bits of colour matched plastic stick on trim. Are they worth the money erm well no but if they save a few of the doors edges then maybe...... Ed
  21. You can mount things on the shaded area as long as you can get a clear shot obviously not through the shaded part!! Probably the mount along the bottom edge with the camera looking through the clear glass. My camera has a lens which rotates so the position can be adjusted as it was designed to be mounted in this area. Try it and see is the only way to be sure. Ed .
  22. Looks like there is plenty of space in your picture?? Thats what the shaded area is for, mounting things like toll road sensors ect. Ed
  23. Looks ok and a nice neat camera. I would have if possible mounted the other side of the RVM in the shaded area so not seen from outside. Maybe not possible if it obscures the shot though. The beauty of the one I fitted is the lens rotates as required. Ed
  24. My camera switches on & off with the ignition. :eerrrmm:
