  1. The fact it is 3 stage paint must make it cost more. The senior man is coming to redo the repair tomorrow. Finger crossed it will be a top job. Ed
  2. Can I have his number? Please!! The front bumper would have to be removed and fittings taken off running lights ect, not masked up, flattened and sprayed, a bargain if that could be done for £120. The rate stone chips are growing on mine it will need this soon. The Smart repair insurance is an insurance so peace of mind if a numpty opens a door into it ect Ed.
  3. My IS is 3 stage pearlescent mesa red I doubt a decent bodyshop would prep & spray it for £120!! The smart repair would have been nice finish he just didnt prep it properly.
  4. £200 for 12 months cover when bought at the same time as the vehicle. One repair would be £100 to £150 so well worth it. Shame they seemed incapable of repairing one stone chip. It will no doubt be done properly when they have another go! Ed
  5. imho yes as its vunerable, the bumper certainly is as the (not so) Smart repair technician noticed yesterday. The part of the rear door that has it applied is also vulnerable maybe that's why Lexus specified it. Ed
  6. I will of course be complaining to Shine Smart Repairs on Monday when they open. I suspect it was the skill of the technician rather than the actual process. I do not understand why no filler was used and from looking at what fell off no primer! Who is Justin Ballard? Ed
  7. I just claimed on my Smart repair insurance. The technician seemed to be struggling with a smallish scuff. The paint kept lifting so he said. He also said it was 3 stage paint as if that was new to him. This morning the paint had bubbled up and fell off when I touched it exposing the bare surface. At least its on the bumper so will not rust. I am not convinced with so called Smart repairs. I would of expected the scuff to be filled and flattened rather than trying to paint over it making it more noticeable. Ed.
  8. Modern car paint finishes and particularly Lexus is soft and less durable compared to older cars. My less than two year old fsport has more chips on the bonnet & bumper than my previous car had after 12 years. I see new ones appearing after every motorway journey. The rate it's going it will need a full bonnet & bumper respray soon. Modern (Lexus) paint needs the extra protection of plastic film in vunerable places. Maybe the rear door picks up road spray from the front wheels? I cleaned mine and they look ok but always less noticeable on Mesa Red than on a white car. Ed.
  9. Stone chips on the bumper will not rust the part of the door protected by the film will. No car manufacturer fits things that are not required. Ed
  10. If you value your paint finish then avoid dealer washes. They use industrial strength traffic film remover applied with a gritty brush blasted off with a hugely powerful pressure washer. My f sport was covered in swirls as a result. Fortunately Lexus paint is soft enough to fairly easily polish and my paint is looking superb once more with a decent layer of wax applied. I now specifically say no to them washing it. Dealer washes are the work of the devil!! Ed.
  11. Many "mods" when declared do not increase the premium though.
  12. The string is used to cut through the foam tape if you want to remove the camera. Not sure about the screw!! Technomoan did a YouTube review. Ed.
  13. Remove them and if concerned make some new ones using the old ones as a pattern. The protection film is readily available. Ed
  14. The Lexus OE bumper guard is made in UK. This leads me to believe that this company make them for Lexus who put them into a branded box and charge double!! http://www.rearguards.co.uk/ http://www.rearguards.co.uk/index.php?app=gbu0&ns=prodshow&ref=RBP729&sid=y51m0129e3p0qt8khw91lz5k4uu0l0k9 Ed
  15. See post 13 and yes they are available at less (half) than Lexus price all discussed in this thread!! Lexus are like a bogof in reverse so more of a buy one pay double!! Ed
  16. Please post a picture up! I may fit a set if they look good.
  17. If you were really tight you would drive an Aygo which incidentally use the same part as the Lexus!! I winced when I bought my Fsport when a similar age Insignia Sri was over 10k cheaper but dont regret it now
  18. Toyota price is £25 each though, I was ripped off by Lexus. Had I known the part number beforehand, funny how the Lexus chap didn't mention it!! Ed
  19. The Lexus OE do fit the holder fairly tight. generic ones I suspect will be a bit loose. You pays yer money.......etc I am not sold on mud flaps on any car kind of ruins the lines..... anyone fitted a set?
  20. Post the link!! Lexus ones are available for less than Lexus prices. Had I known the part number I would have paid Toyota price!! google 74102-02140
  21. Mesa red is lovely it sparkles in the sun probably why the same colour in Japan is called Red Crystal Shine!! I would have bought a white one to but none available with the spec I wanted at the time. Leather memory heated cooled seats folding mirrors premium nav reverse cam. Ed
  22. I got a set of premium mats & a boot liner with mine doubt I could have negotiated anything else!!
  23. I paid the bargain price of £90 delivered. Strange enough for a Lexus part it is made in the UK. Cheaper non OE one here. I nearly went for this but decided to pay Lexus price for the OE. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BLACK-RGM-REAR-GUARD-BUMPER-PAINT-SCUFF-PROTECTOR-new-LEXUS-IS-6-13on-RBP729-/261606094155?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3ce8f0354b Ed
  24. Sounds ace! Post some pictures when you can. My Fsport has black leather would have liked red but as it is mesa red maybe black suits it better. Ed
  25. Lexus key fobs removed the badges! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Luxury-lexus-leather-keyring-key-ring-birthday-present-/201410296600? These may be suitable to http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Badge-Logo-Emblem-Sticker-for-Lexus-GS-IS-220-250-300-250-RX-300-400-450-D-450h-/121577754157?fits=Car+Make%3ALexus&hash=item1c4e994e2d Ed
