  1. I did indeed buy my current car from these guys in Bolton. Their "specialism" is getting to private buyers quickly with cash offers for good cars, then marking them up optimistically.

I can't complain, as otherwise I wouldn't have got mine. 41k miles, one owner, serviced by supplying dealer every year. Paid £8.5k, after calling the dealer and checking. Subsequently spoke to the owner, who only used it when he had guests and needed 4 seats, hence the low mileage. It's my daily driver, and I have been happy with it. But that's no guarantee for any other car from this source.

    Good luck!

    I bought my first LS430 in 2012 - 04 plate with 112k for £3500

Interesting. Some members will recall I bought my LS430 from these guys 2.5 years ago for (I think) £8450.

A lot of people thought that was way too much then but my logic was one owner, annual service from supplying dealer, total mileage 42k made it about as good as it gets.

    Certainly haven't regretted it.

I have tried to work on a basis of £1,000 a year depreciation for quite a while now. My worst (for depreciation) car worked out at £1600 a year. As a few of you are on here, I am a little addicted to AutoTrader. The second-hand cost of Lexus cars seems to have shot up. A six year old RX450h with around 40,000 miles is nearly £24,000.  That WOULD depreciate quite quickly me thinks! Supply and demand - take it or leave it.

I paid £2,300 for my first LS430 in 2015 and sold it 4 years later for £3k. I am not expecting depreciation to work quite that well in future. Ireland ramping up road tax for big engines caused a glut and drove down prices dramatically.

A few people thought I overpaid for my current 430 - £8.5k - but it's pretty close to perfect for me, and that's not a bad price for perfection. ☺️

If it's just the Sub, I replaced mine with the Dayton-Audio one for £50. Sounds superb once broken in.
Took a little bit of modification of the plastic frame that holds the OEM sub but nothing difficult.
You can also get re-foam kits that do the job if the sub/speakers still work but are crackling.
Hopefully the silicone will do the job.

Thanks for that. Took it out today and cranked up the volume. Not a hint of the buzz that was there before. Phew!

To be honest I'd probably find the best facelift LS430 I can and have it "renewed", modified, and updated so that I effectively have a brand new LS430 for the 21st century. I'd have the drivers seat moved rearwards about 1" and completely rebuilt for me, totally new audio/nav system created based on an Android system including all the AirCon, etc. controls, and a mild power boost to take it to 350bhp.

That was my thinking, apart from the rebuild. My old 430 was fine, but I spent what was described as silly money on another one, also 2004. One owner, full supplying dealer service history every year from new, and 40k on the clock. I didn't see it as silly.

I'm afraid the used car market is possibly the most dodgy venture a person could embark on.  I part exchanged my GS300 to buy my Celsior (a GS that really I should have kept) and it appeared on eBay two weeks ago saying it was owned by a very wealthy gentleman.  That certainly wasn't me so it couldn't have been owned by a wealthy gentleman for long but the suggestion was he spared no expense etc etc!

When I bought mine the dealer said they had picked it up from the owner's underground car park in Central London. I looked up the address on Google Maps. The road ran off Grosvenor Square, and on StreetView it was the only house that didn't have an Embassy flag on it. No wonder he could afford to get it serviced by Lexus Park Lane every year!

Been looking at this LS600h LWB model, reasonable mileage and FLSH.

Looks stunning inside and out and need to measure the garage first

but should I make it my retirement treat?

Fill your garage with junk and park in front like the rest of us!
