  1. 2008 just coming up to 98,000 miles, had it for 2 years. It needed new disks and pads almost straight away despite a full service history. This was a really easy DIY job, apart from the seized rear slide pin. My local garage freed it with some heat and a big spanner. New pins were cheap from Lexus on e-bay. But that's just wear and tear!
  2. The 400h will drive on electric at nearly any speed, depending on the conditions. Slightly down hill it will use electric only at higher speeds, but at low speed, under 25, it's all electric until you run out of power then the ICE takes over. I tow a large twin axle Bailey with my 400h, it has more than enough power for any hills in the UK. The "Auto" gearbox is not an issue as there are really no gears at all. not even a reverse! It's all controlled by the use of the electric motor/generators vie two epicyclic units. Reverse is achieved by reversing the electric traction motor/generator (MG2).
  3. There must be a few usable second user parts out there now!
  4. The 100k+ service is priced at £645 from Lexus, so factor this into your bargaining on price!
  5. Install CCTV to monitor the car 24/7, then you'll know for certain who's behind it! Or wire the door handles to the mains, that will stop them!!!!!
  6. Trouble is I live in Morecambe so Glossop is a long way to go. I talked the my very local Toyota dealer and they didn't want to know, said that the service tools and diagnostic stuff was not compatible with Lexus!!!
  7. Before I stop the car I fold the mirrors in then stop the car and press the button again. When the car starts the mirrors fold out, beats messing with the wiring!
  8. Excellent car, 30+ mpg if you are careful, 25 mpg towing a 1.7 tonne caravan. You will have a big bill in 5K miles as the 100K + service replaces all the fluids and replaces the cam belt also. Lexus do a fixed price service for this but it wont cover unexpected items.
  9. Got mine from Lidl £25. These are the cross bars and clamp on to the rails, lockable too. They look good too and the price is great. You have to be in the store when they get them though cos they don't stock them!
  10. Anyone had dealings with Lexus Bolton service department, my 400h is coming up for its 100k+ service, I've heard of people ending up with huge bills because the car is not as it was off the assembly line. Also are Toyota up to the task of this type of service, I have a dealership just around the corner.
  11. I fitted a Nextbase 420G, a Which best buy, I use the power socket at floor level and run the cable behind the trim to the camera.
  12. Under normal driving, a mix of town and distance I'm averaging just over 30 mpg. Towing my large twin axle caravan I still get 25 mpg.
  13. If your caravan has a 12n and 12s the I'd go with that quote, but if you're starting from scratch I'd fit the 13 pin, as I said before they are much less prone to corrosion. Happy towing.
  14. The Lexus part does need a new loom but the add a split charger does not. It does however require two 12 V feeds as one is a sensing wire and the other is the power for the caravan. Here is the wiring diagram. The two switched outputs feed the fridge and for battery charging, The unswitched feed is for a supply to the caravan direct from the car if required.
  15. My option would be to fit a 13 pin plug and socket to car and caravan as they are less prone to corrosion. I did this on my 400h. The Westfalia tow bar is the standard fitment by Lexus, the Lexus info on fitting is a direct crib from Westfalia. You will also need a split charge relay which will require fused power leads from the battery or other 12 V source. If the tow bar was fitted by Lexus as standard the I'm surprised that it wasn't fitted with a 12n 12s or 13 pin sockets as these are the only two options supplied by Lexus!
  16. That's probably because of the age of your system, I upgraded from 2008 DVDs to 2015 and am now able to enter a destination on the move. Voice commands are a whole other ball game though, the only thing I've been able to do successfully it to cancel navigation!!!!
  17. Out of line steering wheel sugessts to me that the car may have been involved in an accident, have you checked its history?
  18. For a 1 mile comute I'd get a bike, if you didn't fancy peddling the get an alactrically assisted one!
  19. It could be an intermittent fault with one of the cabin temperature sensors, the on on the drivers side, no idea where they are though.
  20. There is no starter battery or starter motor as such on a 400H, the HV battery starts the petrol engine via motor/generator 1 so the 12v battery is only used for auxiliaries when the car in not in a ready state. The heating is via the waste heat from the petrol engine.
  21. A float (trickle) charger can be left connected indefinitely, most modern chargers have a maintenance charge state when the battery has been charged. Here is a clip from Wikipedia. "Float voltage is the voltage at which a battery is maintained after being fully charged to maintain that capacity by compensating for self-discharge of the battery. The voltage could be held constant for the entire duration of the cell's operation (such as in an automotive battery) or could be held for a particular phase of charging by the charger. The appropriate float voltage varies significantly with the chemistry and construction of the battery, and ambient temperature. With the appropriate voltage for the battery type and with proper temperature compensation, a float charger may be kept connected indefinitely without damaging the battery."
  22. In my opinion if you pay so little for a dash cam it probably wont have the customer backup in case of a fault. I have a Nextbase 420 G with g sensors and GPS, it was a which best buy. It did go faulty within 8 months but sent it back to Nextbase on Saturday and got it back on the Tuesday fixed at no cost to me! OK it cost 10 times the eBay one but you pay for what you get! It's mounted on the screen on the passenger side on the rear view mirror and powered from a 12 V socket on the floor tray. It has a built in screen for playback so no need to patch it to a monitor, also comes with some neat software which links to Google maps.
  23. The ML270 CDI I had was no slouch but the 400h I now drive realy picks its heels up if you boot it!
