  1. I suppose this is it's attempt at fuel saving. What I tend to do is just put it into sport before the hill and it automatically gears down to 4th so I don't have to pump the gas to get to change down for the hill then I change back to D once I'm over the crest. Anyway I think it is the gearbox trying to be too fuel efficient, drop it into sport occasionally, it gives me a more of a feeling of actually being in control. Thanks James. The gearbox is described as "automatic" so I don't expect to have to manually compensate. If conditions dictate a change-down, then I expect it to happen. I've had Saabs before and didn't experience this problem. I'm all in favour of high gears to save fuel, I don't go tear-arsing any more, but do expect the correct gear for the conditions. I'm off work on Friday, so will try disconnecting the battery. I'll report my results. There isn't a lot wrong as I've been to North Wales and back today (c300 miles) and averaged 35.3 mpg....not speeding, but driving with progress in mind !
  2. If I adopt Steve's solution and disconnect the battery for a while (overnight ?). Will I lose other settings than the radio code ? Seat memory positions ? Will the electric windows work correctly and everything else electric for that matter ? I'm very nervous of a "re-set" of the ECU in case there are other consequences ?
  3. That's a good shout James, but I had the brakes seen to when I bought the car last November. There was one sticking caliper and one siezed. I replaced the siezed one and had all of them lubricated, so unlikely to be the cause after such a short period of time. Unless you know different of course ?
  4. Thank you Steve. I had read about that elsewhere, but was unsure about doing it, seeking reassurance on here I suppose. I'll certainly try that, but will wait awhile in case another member comes up with an alternative solution/diagnosis.
  5. Hello everyone. Had my IS250 SE-L since November last year and I'm very pleased with it. However, I'm increasingly experiencing a problem. When I return from work, I have to turn right into a lane with quite a steep uphill gradient. I'm quite gentle on the accelerator at all times, but I have to "boot" it on this hill otherwise I get vibration from the engine labouring. It's not just a gentle increase in throttle pressure required, but quite heavy, otherwise it won't change down a gear. More recently, I've noticed similar vibration/labouring on flat roads with 30mph speed limit. It's as if the car is trying to operate in too high a gear at about 1100rpm. I'm all for changing up rapidly to get maximum return on fuel consumption, but what I'm experiencing seems excessive as I don't believe I should experience vibration and labouring. A blip on the throttle gets it to change down, but I think the car should "automatically" select the correct gear ratio to avoid labouring the engine. Can anyone throw any light on this please ? Steve.
  6. Couldn't agree more ! Only had mine since November and loving it !
  7. Nah....don't like those, sorry ! Just be careful opening your doors and train your passengers to be careful too.
  8. I'm sorry to inform you Chris that the replacement batteries you've ordered from Amazon won't be an improvement.....they'll be flat in shape too ! :winky:
  9. I recommend Listerine to make her breath better ! :D
  10. My locking nuts are ugly black !! The other four are shiny chrome ! I ordered these a couple of days ago, not arrived yet. Think they'll be the answer. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/230777926129?_trksid=p2060778.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
  11. Looks beautiful !!! Especially like the wheels. Been a gorgeous afternoon here in West Wales. Gave mine a full valet, inside and out !
  12. Sorry, don't know anything about BMWs, not keen on their over aggressive drivers ! I'm surprised you consider the IS250 thirsty. I do very local mileage, 5 miles to work and weekly supermarket trip of 30 miles and average 29mpg this Winter (only had car since November). I expect the mpg to improve somewhat through the Summer months. When I collected the car, I averaged 38mpg on a virtually all motorway run of 200 miles (70 to 75mph). When you consider, it is a very comfortable, luxurious car with a V6 2.5 litre engine and automatic gearbox........I think the economy is more than acceptable.
  13. Two years Lexus warranty was £795. I'm not sufficiently experienced to guide as what to look for. Yes, I've lubed my calipers ! I do 5 miles to work and back each day with a weekly supermarket trip of 35 miles total, dual carriageway and motorway. During this cold weather I'm averaging 29mpg. When I collected the car from Mansfield, I averaged 38mpg on my return trip, nearly all motorway at 70 to 75 mph. Hope this helps.
  14. If you like the car, I'd go for it ! I bought an identical vehicle, except mine's 17" wheels. Same colour, trim, SE-L, 65k. On a 58 plate, but 2008. After much searching and research, I paid £8,400 for mine in November. Let us know please. Good luck. I sorted a Lexus extended warranty for mine through my dealer.
  15. I use Gliptone products. There's a leather cleaner and a leather conditioner which impregnates a smell as it conditions. I quite like the smell but not everyone does ! Got mine off eBay.
  16. I use Gliptone too. The cleaner followed by the conditioner and it leaves a new leather type smell.
  17. Meant to say, I'd be taking the Lexus extended warranty with the GS450h too.
  18. Hi Les, Purely from a personal point of view, I'd go for the GS450h. I only do about 7,000 miles pa so the low mileage on the GS300 is not very significant to me. To be honest, I'd worry about taking on a vehicle that had only done an average of less than 2,000 miles each year !
  19. Try www.breakeryard.com They came up with some Saab bits for me in the past.
  20. I would assume the new spark plugs has nothing to do witb the fuel pipe faulty, wouldnt it? Correct, I asked them to do the plugs in addition to the recall work.
  21. Not sure, mine's a November reg on a 58 plate.
  22. Got mine done three weeks ago in Cardiff. Had new spark plugs fitted at the same time.
  23. I have stopped watching. It ceased to be a programme about cars a long time ago, and has also ceased to be an entertainment (or entertaining) programme. Me too. Haven't watched TG for a long time for those same reasons. Haven't caught the new Classic car show yet.
  24. www.breakeryard.com Give them a try. found some Saab parts a couple of years ago.
  25. Hope it's what you want. Pictures when you get it please.
