Lexus Servicing
steveledzep replied to bluenose1940's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Thank you for that Michael. The Lexus website also lists a minor service for an IS over five years old at £159, I was charged £245 ! There were no extraordinary items on my invoice, just oil, filter, screenwash etc. I have emailed them asking for a refund of £91.85......I'll let you know how I get on. Thanks again. -
The rattles you describe would really bug me. Mine's seven years old and I can hear my wife's dangly earrings creaking !!

That's what I thought Colin. Thanks. Well worth it if the warranty covers any defects found. Mine got a clean bill of health. -

Just last week I was charged £54.85 for MOT by Lexus, Cardiff. Did it at same time as 70k service (I have Lexus used car warranty). Was I robbed ? -
Took my car to Lexus, Cardiff today. Seven year/70k annual service and mot. I have the Lexus extended warranty in place to Jan 2017 so I have to service at Lexus to satisfy the conditions. I know that some on here would say that a seven year old vehicle should go to an independent instead of Lexus to save costs. All went swimmingly with an mot pass and only minor things highlighted in the service. My car was valeted to a very high standard with even a couple of scuffs to the alloys touched in and tyre black applied.....she looked a treat ! The staff I encountered treated me exceptionally well and I was particularly impressed with Natalie on the service desk. Did this cost me a fortune ? No......£299.85 including mot......not much more than an independent would charge ! In return, I have a shining car, mot and Lexus service stamp with no greasy finger marks from the independent guy.

Solid wood flooring is glued to the concrete floor beneath, so would be ok for driving on. Laminate and engineered generally "floats" over an underlay, so would be prone to moving with a sharp jab of the accelerator. None of the above would be suitable in my opinion as a fluid leak, or even aircon compressor condensation could ruin the floor. Personally, I'd tile it.

No, you are incorrect. Timescale of 3 or 6 months is irrelevant. The RAC warranty supplied by the trader wasn't worth the paper it was written on. I discovered a siezed caliper and the RAC warranty refused to pay out. Fortunately, the trader was very understanding and concerned and contributed £200 to the cost. I've not had cause to claim on the Lexus warranty, but it tells you what IS covered, rather than the RAC which highlights all eventualities NOT covered. After my service and mot on Tuesday, maybe I'll have made a successful claim ?......I'll let you know.

It's very easy to do 130,000 miles in three years. For eleven years working in South Wales and SW England, I averaged 50,000 miles each year. It only equates to an average of 200 miles each working day. I did my mileage in Vectras, Mondeos, Passats and Accords. It would have been a lot easier in an IS !!

You might save more by going to an independant. Say a car is £15k at Lexus, it'll probably will be £13k at an independant. As I mentioned in my post above you also have the consumer rights act 2015 which give a certain amount of time after purchase depending on severity of the fault, once this has ended you then buy the two year warranty plus a further two years later on. So, if a Lexus purchase costs you £16k inc warranty for 3 years, an independant purchase costs you £15k for four years warranty. All hypothetical of course, as the gap between Lexus and independant prices might be bigger!Sent from my SM-P600 using Tapatalk The 08 example was £13.999 at the Lexus dealer but mine was less than £10k, so the savings could be quite considerable. Totally agree. Bought mine from an independent just a year ago. I used the three months (inferior) supplied warranty and then bought a Lexus 24 month warranty in January this year. Mine's going in to Lexus Cardiff on Tuesday for an intermediate service and mot. It had just had the expensive 60,000 service before I bought it. That's a factor worth bearing in mind ! I plan to sell my IS next summer with six months remaining Lexus warranty so that the new owner can pick up the next major service. It should sell quite easily with the warranty in place and I shouldn't lose too much from my original purchase price as I bought it well to start with.

Auto Mirrors
steveledzep replied to is200 Newbie's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
Update. Not taken mine for service yet. Stripped my mirrors in order to fit led puddle lights the other week. The nylon threaded shafts of the mirror movement mechanism were caked in "muck" I used an old toothbrush and cillit bang to clean the threads and then sprayed them with silicon lubricant. All works perfectly now. -
I've experienced something similar on a Golf. Think it was a stone lodged in the brakes as Rayaans has suggested. Driving forwards was a terrible racket, I reversed and applied the brakes and the stone must have dislodged. Try it.....you never know ?

Looks lovely. great low mileage too ! Changing my IS250 next Summer, one like yours is top of my list at the moment.......Enjoy !!

I would only select Park when I am parking the vehicle. If selecting Park all the time when in a line of traffic that is moving slowly, you are also activating reverse selection as you pass through the gate, albeit briefly. That is a concern to me.

I'm very interested in this too...thanks for posting Fishboy. I tend to nudge mine into neutral when at traffic lights that I know have a long delay. Don't know if I'm doing the right thing ?

Lovely job on the wheels Carl. As most vehicles come with alloy wheels these days, I suspect the chances of theft are slim. However, you could further enhance the look of your wheels with these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-x-TAPER-SEAT-ALLOY-WHEEL-LOCKING-NUTS-LEXUS-GS-RX-LUG-BOLTS-6P-/231134281384?fits=Car+Make%3ALexus&hash=item35d0ad3ea8 I have a set myself on my IS250 and you can't tell there are locking nuts without very close scrutiny.

This thread has prompted me to "LED" my car. Did it today after watching the Precision LED video. Couldn't have done it without the video guide.....excellent ! Did the puddle lights, the vanity mirrors and the centre roof lights. Also put leds in the red lenses on the underside of the door - undecided about the Lexus projector ones. Also did the front side lights, a bit fiddly but got there in the end. I wouldn't attempt these jobs without the special trim releasing tools, they made the job both easy and non-damaging !!

Hello Trevor and welcome. My IS is bog standard except for leds in the front sidelights ! Don't go in for modifying much ! Hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy my Lexus.

Well I Guess I Just Bought An Is300h F-sport
steveledzep replied to rayaans's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Red leather in a white car is gorgeous in my opinion. They'd have saved some vat if they'd reduced the price of both cars, but keeping the difference the same of course. Price to change is all that matters to you ! It makes me wonder what you'd have done had they offered you your expected price for your p/x ? Did you consider your new one fairly priced and you'd still have bought it ? Doesn't matter, as I said, price to change is what you need to be happy with. Enjoy your new motor, looking forward to the pics. -

Gs450h
steveledzep replied to messi's topic in Lexus GS 300 / Lexus GS 250 / Lexus GS 430 / Lexus GS 450h / Lexus GS 460 Club
I purchased my extended warranty in January of this year. I paid £795 for two years cover. At the time it was being marketed as two years for the price of one ! I considered it a good deal, especially as it is £79.50 a month for ten months. This could explain why Del Lardo paid as much as he did. -
Haha ! Nice thought.......but I can't afford to be thirty again....in more ways than one !
-
Forgive me, maybe I'm being a bit simple here Is the flashing of lights done in dipped beam mode, without the need for the lens to move ? Surely, dipped or main is irrelevant as long as the lights flash ? :)

Not sure about the typewriter, but there are many young people exploring turntables and vinyl records. Quite a resurgence in the medium ! I'm 60 next year and will be changing my IS250. Staying with Lexus but unsure whether to go IS or GS, Mrs Ledzep fancies an RX !!!
