  1. That's about what I'm getting day to day with mostly 5 mile commutes to work and the occasional 40 miles run. On a motorway run to Guildford at 75ish on cruise I get 35+ mpg. My convertible is a little heavier than the saloon. You're doing very well Graham.
  2. Astonish from Home Bargains is cheap, maybe that's your problem. It may be that you're using the wrong newspaper, have you tried The Times ?
  3. Yes, I use scrunched newspaper for the final buff. Gets rid of the smears.
  4. That's nothing....I've got a tiger in my tank ! Hope you get your damage sorted, supermarket car park vandals are just as bad.
  5. I wouldn't worry too much about the ML sound system. The standard one is more than adequate in a noisy, compromised listening environment.....you can't even sit in the middle of the speakers ! I had ML in my previous saloon, my convertible has a standard 11 speaker system. I'm a bit of an audiophile with a tidy home system and the ML system wasn't anything special in the car environment.
  6. Good luck with your haggling I couldn't do a long term service plan as I'm always open to change if I see something I fancy.
  7. Sorry to hear of your plight Ray. Don't know what drives lowlife to do this....envy and jealousy I guess ! Like Phil, supermarket dings annoy me too, unfortunately, despite parking away I have a few scars from inconsiderate parkers too.
  8. My previous IS250 underwent an inspection at Lexus Cardiff before being accepted for the warranty. It had a full service history, but 2 were done by independents. My current IS250C was bought from an independent trader but was accepted for warranty without inspection because its service record is 100% Lexus.
  9. That's why I bought the 2 year Lexus warranty. Believe it's £895 now for 2 years (I paid £795) and that includes Roadside Assistance too. Excellent value as I've already had a £600 claim for water ingress into the headlamp. http://www.lexus.co.uk/owners/warranty-and-insurance/#LexusCareExtendedWarranty
  10. As my wife also drives the IS regularly, the most valuable mod-con to us is memory seats. Would really miss them.
  11. I agree, it does look cheap, but the £8,000 is only an invitation to commence bidding at that level. I think if there was a reserve on it, it would state "Reserve not met". Not sure if it needs an initial bid in order to trigger that statement ? Good luck if you decide to bid. Why not give the guy a call, maybe there's a deal to be had ?
  12. That's an excellent price ! Just renewed mine last month with RAC (did a Meerkat search first) at £270 pa. That includes the wife though, maybe she's not as good a driver as your missus Noobie. Mine includes business use, courtesy car, protected ncb etc.
  13. I used a "tar spot remover" aerosol, white spirit or meths should do equally well. Solvol Autosol is a good shout by Messi too.
  14. That one looks a lot better Bob. I had to do the same with mine. I found a lot of it was tar deposits which came off with a solvent. I finished off with fine wet & dry paper. Very easy to keep the look as I attend to the tips every time I wash the car. Can't understand people who neglect the cleaning, especially on a premium brand vehicle.
  15. If I was contemplating purchase of a car approaching 60k, I'd insist on the spark plugs being done as part of the deal. Difficult to check though ! I use Lexus Cardiff for my servicing, it's a condition of the Lexus warranty. I only do 8,000 a year so not had this one done there yet, but I purchased my warranty from them and they attended to my headlamp issue. Can't comment on power band. True to say, the IS250 is not a particularly quick car, but adequate in my view. A lot of fun can be had with the 6 speed auto using the paddles in manual mode. It can shift a bit !! As Bob says, inspect the exhaust. Mine still has paint on it, I suppose it depends if it's been driven on salt laden roads in the winter. The Lexus IS "works"
  16. Spark plugs are the major contributor to the expense of the 60,000 service, they're a bugger to get at ! My car is 6 years old but only done 36,000 and hasn't had the spark plugs done. My feeling is that spark plugs deteriorate with use, not age ? I believe the US state spark plug change at 100,000. Lexus have a reputation for not going wrong.
  17. Hi Dylan and welcome to the site. My first ownership of Lexus was 18 months ago with an IS250 SE-L saloon and in November last year I bought an IS250C SE-L convertible. Best cars I've ever owned. I bought both of them from independent motor dealers, the first from Mansfield and the current car from Southport. The 60,000 service is particularly expensive as it includes changing the spark plugs. I have the extended warranty on mine, £795 for 2 years. I've already claimed for a new headlamp unit that developed water ingress, that was close on £ 600 for the unit alone, so I consider I've had good value already. I believe the warranty prices have gone up recently though. I'm averaging just over 27mpg, but that is with 5 mile trips to and from work five times a week. A trip to Guildford to visit my daughter returns 38mpg on cruise set at 75mph (ish). Mark (200h) seems to have covered most things for you. I'm very close to you at Llandeilo, PM me if you'd like more info.
  18. I use country roads a lot too and the wheel arches collect a lot of gunk ! I have a trigger operated jet on the end of my hosepipe and I squirt this up and around the arch every time I wash the car.....at least weekly ! Now you've scrubbed them, a regular jet-wash should be sufficient....it is for me.
  19. Hi Andy. I have no experience of the RX, mine's an IS250. I've had an IS saloon and now this convertible......both only had mat clips in the driver position. My understanding is that there's a danger of the driver's mat slipping forward and interfering with either the accelerator or brake pedal.....or both ! Lexus view it very seriously when they do a safety inspection. Personally, I don't see the need for mat anchors other than in the driver's position.
  20. I had the ML set up in my previous IS250-SEL saloon. Yes, it's very good. I have the "standard" sound system in my IS250 convertible. It's very good too. Like bobmc, I'm a bit of an audiophile too. My conclusion is that both systems are more than adequate for music reproduction in the noisy environment of a car travelling along the road. As Mrs ledzep drives the car a lot too, memory seats is far more important to me than the sound system.
  21. People will always say nice things about the cars they own and drive. Choice justification I guess.
