  1. The Lexus extended warranty is very comprehensive. I took it out on my two previous ISs and the claims just about exceeded the premium. In both cases I sold the vehicles with about 8 months of warranty remaining, I'm convinced it helped me get a good price with only a £25 transfer fee. I've never used the AA roadside assistance, but it is reassuring to have, especially when my wife travels 150 miles to see our daughter and granddaughter. I took the extended warranty on my current RX and I've not made a claim in fourteen months of ownership. I'm very happy not to make a claim, just to enjoy the peace of mind. £1,000 doesn't buy you much at a Lexus dealership !!!!!
  2. I had those metal badges on the mats I inherited in my IS250C, my previous Lexus. They were all scratched and scuffed too. My current mats are an embroidered Lexus logo.
  3. I use those aluminium dust caps and they're fine if you smear a little oil on the stem and do finger tight only. After all, they're not keeping the air in, only the dust out.
  4. I've not read the whole thread either. If the OP hasn't even tried an IS250, what is he doing on here saying he wants to buy one ? To the OP: Get out and test drive a few local to you (irrespective of spec and condition). Then decide if an IS250 is for you or not. What a waste of time this thread is !!
  5. I'm not talking about an impetuous "jump on the train". It needs to be a measured and strategic approach. I always buy with full dealer service history. Talk to the seller and ask for warts and all description, with photographs. Explain you're coming a long way and will walk if not accurately described. Offer small deposit to show good faith. I've worked in the motor industry and dealers operate on a trust basis when trading cars. Tell the dealer that you expect mutual trust. I've not been let down yet. In every case that I've offered a deposit to "hold" the car until my arrival, the deposit hasn't been taken from my account. A degree of assertiveness is required and you should be rewarded with a straightforward and truthful response. Takes a bit of bottle and knowledge, but has worked for me.
  6. When you find the "right" car, jump on a train and go to get it. I've done that for my last 5 or 6 cars. £50 and a few hours of your time is insignificant where the "right" car is concerned.
  7. I find the road surface to be the largest contributor to noise. On my commute home I go from a concrete road to a tarmac road and the difference in noise level is huge.
  8. I had two ISs before my RX. Sean is absolutely correct, the IS is streets ahead of the CT. I had a CT once as a loan car while my IS was being serviced....not a patch. Does "her indoors" drive ? Let her do the test drives.....no contest ! (Alan Partridge had the previous IS model)
  9. Hi Rod, Why don't you and her indoors go out and test drive one ? Doesn't have to be at a Lexus agent, plenty of CT200hs about at independents too. Your Jetta/Bora is a bit long in the tooth, I think you'll have a positive experience in a Lexus irrespective of its acceleration. Let us know how you get on.
  10. There are a lot of lemmings about !! None of them use their direction indicators !! Rant over
  11. That would show oil and coolant mixed.
  12. In over 40 years, I've never put a car through a car-wash......not even my first Mk1 Escort. I usually wash my car weekly and enjoy it, not a chore, very satisfying when viewing the end result. I don't go in for any fancy products, usually Simoniz wax and wash and their polish afterwards occasionally. My vehicle always looks smart, but probably wouldn't stand up to showroom scrutiny. It does for me and I'm very proud of my RX. I really struggle to get the glass sparkling. I've used Autoglym and other proprietary products to no avail. Any tips ?
  13. Your list is very similar to mine John. Your car is very similar too. Great music and a great car too.
  14. Me too. I don't have time for watches.
  15. If Lexus Reading did the previous service, I'd have expected them to correct the headlight FOC. Just leaving the mot fee to pay.
  16. No need to swear. Irony doesn't always come across very well, can be confused with sarcasm.
  17. It's very unusual for blue badge holders to be able to jump.....never mind through hoops !! My Dad had one when he was driving, he'd had three replacement hip operations (not from IOM) and couldn't walk far. It was essential for him to go to town and shop.
  18. Unable to comment on the import bit, but PayPal should protect you. For you proggers, Robert Fripp and Andy Summers collaborated on a couple of albums. Check out "Bewitched".....one of my favourites.
  19. I bought something like this. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Draper-Plastic-Two-Step-Stool-for-Kitchen-Bathroom-Workshop-Office-Garage-Stora/292400211970?epid=1149191568&hash=item4414692802:m:mhnAVRpjuluVqn6dIIAO2qQ I keep it in the garage and it works a treat. Stepladders are cumbersome and pose a threat to the paintwork.
  20. That's a very neat job you've done Lee. Personally I prefer the wood look, but each to his own eh!
