I am not aware of the mk4 having the same ecu issue of older models
-
it hasnt got one, just a strainer that you can clean
-
I am going to throw a curve ball here, they could have built the quietest and smoothest diesel V8 ever, and put it in the Lsd complete with timing chain :D
-
normal apparently, mine does this too

thats a good price even with the pump as its very labour intensive
-
My anti roll bar bushes are worn so need replacing, as its a mk 4 do i still only have to remove the main under tray cover like on earlier ls400s
-
Lots of garages tend to charge 'lexus' tax though

Just had the service, and car running a lot smoother.
But with MOT coming up in 5 weeks, been advised that the following are likely to be a fail (and probably explains the slightly odd ride)
Front Tie Bar bushes worn
Rear Top Wishbones worn
Estimate to get it all done around £1300 -£1400
Mechanic charges £55 an hour, so any thoughts on this.
I am not much of a suspension expert, but once these are sorted, is there likely to be anything else later on with big cost, there was no mention of any issues with front wishbones!
my MOT is due in April and this has made my blood run very cold hmmm

it sounds like your Battery is on its way out, how many miles do you do a week?
-
my car is going in for a service on thurs, so hopefully they can test them via the obd2?
-
still wonder why they didnt change the side repeaters for clear ones

found this on a lambda website quite interesting
ECU's are progressively becoming able to accurately identify a failing lambda sensor, but for older engine management systems, this is not the case. Fault codes do exist for lambda failure but most older ECU's only detect an absence of signal, for example if you had cut the sensor wires, or average 'too rich' and average 'too lean' mixtures over a long period of time. These fault codes do not always work but the increasing number of Lambda-code related MOT failures we encounter would support their usefulness. It still applies that the absence of a lambda-related fault code cannot be taken as a guarantee the Lambda is functioning correctly. This is especially true of some ECU systems with sophisticated LOS strategies, such as Toyota or Lexus, which will cope with a failing sensor but fuel consumption will be markedly up as a result of more fuel being used to maintain driveability

hope this explains

I dont think yours has an air mix path, but its worth cleaning the throttle body with carb cleaner, and the maf with contact cleaner as general maintenance
-
I've just cleaned the throttle body air mix path and its made a huge difference to the throttle response, much sharper now.

I recently own a ls400 1998 model with 200k and in town i got around 17 mpg (uk gallons) driveing gentle...i readed that normal the comsumption its arount 20 mpg in town! It can be a problem? Thanks
i have the same issue too mines done 97k though
-
sounds about right £250 as you have to rip out half the interior lol plus the part isnt exactly cheap
-
Yes i will when it goes for the next service in 2000 miles, as i get 22 and 16 respectively
-
I checked it when it was hot and got 277 ohms so it must be working properly, so er pass, i have read that some people have had this issue with the mk4, to quote the honest john review "Fuel consumption amazingly good, particularly on the MK4 (R reg onwards) with 5 speed box Easy 30 mpg on the motorway and 23-24 round town"

***** almighty!!!! one way of getting an under chassis wash!! i suppose. (yes i know salt is no good for your car)

-
I have noticed lately when i go to start my car when its hot it takes two attempts, but when its cold it starts first turn? its on 97k, plugs where done at 63k, does anyone else have this issue?
