just got back from Lexus Cardiff, superb customer service, was greeted by the very pretty receptionist, the mechanic was superb, couldnt find any faults so didnt charge me, and they washed it too, so my car must be behaving normally then.
-
Right thats it!! i have booked mine in to lexus on fri, to get it plugged in, as i am getting between 15-16 mpg round town no matter how i drive it.
My MK4 used to do around 18 in town so you're not far out. The LS430 does about the same, and I can manage 32 at best. I suppose it's not a bad thing to have a proper Lexus diagnostic check once in a while. Did they give you a price?
60 pounds to do the diagnostic, not bad really, as i have tried to get it done at another garage, but they couldnt get into the ecu, if i do a ecu reset it goes upto 18.5 but soon drops back to 15-16.

I took my mk 4 to a garage who said they specialise in lexus amongst other cars as i think i have a fuel consumption issue, he tried 2 diagnostic machines, both wouldnt connect, he didn't charge me. so it looks like i will have to go to the main dealer.

hmmm if you get lexus parts you are talking a fair few quid to sort all that out, by the time you add labour on you wont get alot of change out of 2k
-
as i said before on the mk4 it only comes on if there is a fault
-
no, it only comes on if there's a fault, no need to worry.
-
i get around 16-17 mpg round town and about 27 mpg on a longish run, things like suspension arms may need attention but hopefully they have been done on your car allen
-
no sure, it was all done by lexus when the previous owner had it
-
i have oe on mine and they squeak like hell
-
all an induction kit will do is make more noise you wont get any more power, you cant remap these ecu's, the only way you get proper power is by turbo/supercharging
-
could be a stuck thermostat

Super unleaded is for use with high performance engines, usually with higher compression ratios. Using it in standard engines makes no difference at all.
Years ago many people would only use 5 star petrol, thinking they were really looking after their cars but in actual fact the extra lead did more harm than good.
Save your money and use the recommended fuel.
I agree, i have tried all types of unleaded ie super, super dooper, normal, and i cant tell any difference

i add a bottle of cataclean before each Mot to keep the system in check

sued? now thats a Freudian slip and a half lol

Thanks for the input guys, maybe i am expecting too much as lets face it its on original shocks that are 17yrs old so they are bound to be worn, i have 33 psi all round by the way, if i put more in the ride becomes dare i say it crashy. there is a lot more road noise than i was expecting but i have put that down to the fulda tyres around. The best riding vehicle i have been in is a range rover, a friend of mine had one, it was quite old on a 98 but the ride was incredibly smooth definitely a magic carpet ride.
-
I have been looking on the internet, alot and people keep going on about the ls400 having a magic carpet ride? hmmm i am not convinced mine has this, its a mk4 with 98k on the clock but i seem to think the earlier 400s have a smoother ride compared to the mk4, as pot holes and ridges can be felt through the car. I have been in bmws and they seems to take bumpy roads alot better than my 400.

i always fast forward the talking bits as they are so cringe worthy

in all honesty you are better off leaving it standard, as all you will end up doing is drawing warm air in from the engine bay, it may sound good, but you will reduce the engine power
-
Bumping an old thread here, my wipers are tired (1999 LS400), general consensus seems to be that the cheap ebay aero style blades are very effective, but need a slight modification to fit.
Anyone know if these are any good?:
Same style as mentioned by quite a few people on here?
i bought those type a few months ago, but no mods were required
-
it should settle down
-
Thats pretty bad, are you ok though? hmmmm there are some very idiotic people out there

Matthew, falling mpg figures can be a sign of a failing Coolant Temperature Sensor. The result is that the ECU thinks the engine is permanently cold and so runs permanently rich, hence, the poor fuel consumption. Not expensive and an easy fix. Either that, or your right foot is MUCH heavier than Messi's! To me, 30mpg is hard enough let alone 40.
I tested the sensor on the car, seems to be well within its tolerances, thats mostly round town though with a light foot, going to book it into the dealer, they want £107 to do and hours diagnostic.
