  1. Fair enough. How did you get all the black stuff off the rim. Is it just a simple clean with wheel cleaner. It seems like its pretty hard to get off. I cant see any scratches either so Im pretty happy too. Ill have to check the valves and see if theyre the same ones as I had previously but newer or if theyd just not bothered to change them Yes, some of it still remained even after using the jet wash brush....a bit of rubbing with a microfibre cloth and polish got it off fairly easily though(mind you I only had one wheel to do, bit different doing all four like you have to!) The valve does look new, although can't say for certain as didn't look before tyre change.
  2. This is normal for Lexus, 10 mins approx per tyre, 1 hour waiting for driver. Mine had the black stuff all over rim too, but no scratches when I cleaned it so happy.
  3. I think the mitts a good method too. I can't make comparisons as its all I've used, but it did a great job. The paintwork is so smooth after, cloths just slide off it and beading is amazing.
  4. Nice one! knowledge is power....as well saving you a fortune with Lexus
  5. Been watching Tesla for a couple of years now, as they gradually develop. I stumbled upon them when somebody buying furniture off me picked it up in his EV Rav4, it was then I discovered that the Tesla roadster existed. Since then, they have created newer models, widening their market at the same time. As the EV market is still in its infancy, I'm happy to wait a little longer to see what happens. Toyota have since produced a newer EV Rav4 (discontinued now) so it makes sense Lexus follow suit.
  6. classic! lol.....they've actually gone out of their way to look stupid - they could have just left at £1 per mile delivery as maths wasn't their best subject at school.
  7. Sounds very reasonable on your part Matt, cant see you having a problem.
  8. Glad to hear you reached an agreement, hopefully the whole experience hasn't been too costly for you.
  9. I usually buy mine online and get them fitted at home, which is what I was about to do when Lexus said one of my tyres were a bit low on thread and they quoted me £98.00 for a front tyre fully fitted. Anyway, just before the cars due to get serviced yesterday I got an email from Lexus saying they price matched tyre retailers with a ten mile radius, so I found the tyre they mentioned (dunlop sportmaxx rt) for £80.00 ff (not a bad tyre judging from the reviews I read). On the phone there was an attempt to fob me off, so basically after a bit of a performance to make it look like they are losing loads of money and doing me a massive favour....and when we were face to face, they price matched it for £80. Actually, the whole service experience was pretty good, with me in complete content customer mode when I eventually got my keys back. RESULT!! I do find mine quite reasonable, even when haggling on new cars. Some would say £70 when full price is too much to fit 4 tyres but I'd rather spend £30 more at a deaper and get them to sort it out if something goes awry than dealing with kwik fit lmao Oh yeah, its definitely worth paying a bit more and getting top service.....mind you, its even better if you can get a deal! I just noticed these dunlops even come with a rim protector, what a shame its the only wheel I've kerbed already though!
  10. Your first mistake - don't buy privately and then go into a dealer (any manufacturer) and expect honesty. I would never trust any dealer to do a 'free' check and NOT find something. I may have agreed with your view in the past, but experience has taught me otherwise. I let the seller's recommended garage (halfords) look at my car when I complained about a leak under the bonnet and a brake noise. Halfords found nothing wrong with the brakes and said the radiator was leaking. Still not happy, I insisted Lexus look at it. Lexus found the discs were corroded, the pads were missing shims, and correctly diagnosing a leaking water pump. The seller agreed to Lexus fitting the pump and the dealer got their in house garage to replace all my discs and pads (lexus parts). Best thing I ever did was taking it to Lexus.
  11. There's no question about it, if theres any faults with the brakes the cars not fit for purpose, the garage can either put it right or you can return the car....which is why I wouldn't fancy being a small dealer, far too much to be responsible for!
  12. Obviously its budget dependant, but an is200d like mine might be worth looking at, as it had major engine updates - although its reliabilty hasn't been proven yet as its still quite young, mpg certainly appears to be much better. Whatever happens, good luck returning your is220d, and please keep us posted.
  13. Try this for starters...http://agreenroad.blogspot.co.uk/2014/01/fukushima-radiation-contaminated-cars.html Interesting link......mind you with this particular car my initial concern would be image not health.....all you need is the suit SIr Tom was wearing on the Voice last Saturday and you wouldnt look out of place in 70's Harlem
  14. Good decision, as others have said you shouldn't have a problem returning it under SOGA.....that mpg is good for around town, but on the motorway I'm averaging 60-70mpg on my dash, so somethings not right!

  16. I had the is300h premier yesterday as a courtesy car and found my experience very similar to the reviewers. The seats are a little firm and the sat nav is more irritating than useful (somehow I managed to turn the navigation upsidedown, or is that an automatic annoying feature), but the car is quick enough for me and certainly very relaxing (particularly after a usually very stressful 50 mile cross central London return journey). The car seems to wrap itself around you when you get in, with everything in easy reach and loads of storage space. I got an average of 47mpg, which is pretty good for stop start driving, mixed with spurts of hard throttle pumping.
  17. I'm thinking of investing in one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00FPCHNBW/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ACZM1ZIB906UA and wondering if anyone knows if its compatible with is200d's. Any advise is much appreciated before I hand over such a vast amount of money! Update: it finally arrived the other day and it works(after initial Bluetooth connection issue)....now eager to discover what I can do with the torque app!
  18. After about 6 months ownership of my is200d, I’m really pleased with the costs, both for fuel and car tax. I fill up the tank about every 5th week, and the tax for the year is £135. My driving is mainly short trips in traffic day to day averaging 33-34mpg, so airport runs about every 6 weeks are handy to clear things out. I also use the A40 instead of back roads going into town putting my foot down whenever possible, so that helps keep it healthy. My old 2.4 petrol Toyota needed filling up about every 3rd week and tax was double the amount what I pay now, so this car is definitely cheaper to run in comparison. Lexus clearly didn't have boy racers in mind when they designed the engine and gearbox, instead providing an economical and capable motorway mile muncher, which shifts rather quickly ( but very serenely) when required. Initially bought it as a stop gap, but the more I own it, the less I think about changing it. Reading about mileages of 160k and 180k from is220d owners like Shano76 and Chris-abr is extremely reassuring as well!
  19. Well done KC14, its good to hear you had a positive outcome, particularly after all the scaremongering from 'experts' you had to endure!
  20. Actually, if I remember rightly, all of them are dressed in black...further fueling the possibilty of subterfuge.
  21. "I'm pretty sure the "trained technicians" flit between the Toyota and Lexus services bays when they are on the same site or near each other. If the workload demands it, I suppose you can't blame" I'm amazed this doesn't occur to more people. You walk in the Lexus dealership, they take your keys, Lexus technician drives car to local toyota/lexus garage. This is why it sometimes takes ages to get your car back after the jobs done, you have to wait for the next available driver!
  22. I can understand the extra costs involved, I mean someone has to pay for coffee, toilet rolls, light bulbs and attitude training
  23. Reminds me of a mate who happlly updated his old Ford Galaxy to a model 4 years younger, only to find his tax was doubled...talk about taking the shine off a new motor
  24. Lexus fitted a new one on mine for around £300 (will edit when I find invoice) and it was a while you wait job. As Steve pointed out you can probably shave quite a bit of that price by going to a good independant with the part.
  25. My local Lexus appears to be recommending the dunlop as well, quoting me for dunlops when giving me service prices, so they must good. So, any opinions on the tyres longevity?
