  1. Time has come around for it's annual service (won't be going back to Lexus this year after last years fiasco).

So... my question is about which parts do people use.... In my Toyota days, I used to fit either Toyota or Blueprint parts  (quality of both seems similar to me).

Now,I see " HERTH+BUSS" parts at a few stockists... looks interesting

So, what's the view out there, Lexus/Toyota, Blueprint, Herth+Buss or something else??

  2. I recall my Avensis (mk2) would switch back to old fashioned (reliable) intermittent mode if you disconnected the rain sensor.... It's a shame the same trick doesn't work on the IS, as I'd assume it's the same

For my IS, I have the windscreen replaced recently... (AA windscreens) ... he connected it all back up and n problems... but I'm sure there was a 'black box' sealed to the screen near the rear view mirror... I assumed it was the sensor, but I could be wrong

  3. I have to agree with the general consensus .. ... Lexus service is no better than any other dealer.... very polite when setting it up, but all down hill fro, there :-(

For my experience, I had promises to fix a couple of things under warranty, just to get my business for the service. however, I later discovered they had only done the service and nothing else... and when I queried it, requests for money start coming back .... or even pushed to sell me a newer model!!!

I will not take my car back to Lexus, and really don't see the point complaining (I wouldn't want them to work on it again, loss of trust)... it will soon be out of warranty and I will look after it myself.

  4. Does anyone else have this problem with their Lexus? .... is mine just normal, or is something wrong? The centre console is the worst, touch it and it creaks, round a corner, over a bump, brake, accelerate .... just really frustrating.

The dealer say they have used both felt tape and silicone spray, on two separate attempts to fix it, but it's more loose and more noisy than before they started... they now say it will cost for any further work.... I think I'll let it fall out of warranty and get stuck into it myself... certainly need to fix it, along with the clutch bearing and brake callipers if I ever want to sell the car (something that's more likely at the moment :megaangry: )

  5. I have been looking after my own cars for over 20years, so all I need is a 'good reference' for this model... such as torque settings, and procedures for any unconventional set-ups... my Lexus is about to drop out of warranty, so I can start getting stuck into the problems the Dealer won't fix.

There are various options to share a file of that size... do you have a windows account? (could use my one-drive account), or if not, I could set-up a drop-box of some kind.

If you're happy to up-load the file, I can PM details to you, let me know. and I'll set it up.

  6. My 2012 IS200d is driving me nuts ... .the plastic in the centre console and the door card are constantly creaking, every corner, bump, slowing down, speeding up ... just like the sound you get when you squeeze a Lego house together.

It's been with the dealer now for the second time, came back worse than before..... frustrating as they won't let me speak to the mechanic, and sales people only interested in selling me a new car. (They sub out their mechanic work to a local Toyota garage, but as it's under warranty, it has to go via the sale's outlet).

Loosing confidence with the garage, as they also suggested the fix for a worn clutch bearing was to re-grease it... worked great for the drive home, but noisy clutch is back again the next day... perhaps just trying to avoid having to replace clutch bearing under warranty.

Anyone else have the same problems with the centre console and door card in the IS200 ? It feels to me like cheap plastic components have gone hard, need replacing with something more pliable.... its a real shame as it's pretty basic build quality issue... for a car that is otherwise superb.

  7. I had the same problem on my old Avensis, just the same ... I struggled at home, then figured my friendly local tyre dealer would come across this all the time.

no problem they said.... two blokes, one with a socket and the original key held in place and the other with a big hammer.... job done ... all 4 wheels no charge!!

(and I bought new locking nuts very similar to the ones you have chosen!)

  8. one thing that really annoys me with my 2012 IS 200d is the lack of storage.... particularly for my sunglasses.

I understand we cannot have the overhead storage, like they do in the US, because of some EU style security electronics that occupies the same hole in the roof.

But I have read about some people buying a kit to convert the ashtray into a storage box.... I can see some pics on line, but no more details :-(

    Has anyone done this?

Is there a part number or website to get it from?

  9. If your not looking at the numerous Toyota/Lexus 'service kits' available on eBay (usually good value), then here's a few I've used before

IMO, blue print is always very reliable. good alternative.... and available from most independent stockists... I used them for most of their part on my old Avensis without any problems

My personal preference is to use MANN or HENGST for oil filters, as they are frequently regarded as higher quality than OEM (never buy cheap filters!).

For Fuel, again my preference is for Denso (original Toyota supplier).

Oil ... it's all about the spec .. and frequent change (6k IMO is the most you should allow)... I usually use COMMA or millers, again, make sure the spec is correct as per user manual.. I personally don't think much of Castrol, but just my opinion..

I opt for self-servicing, not so much for cost, but more about knowing your using decent components and knowing it's been done to your satisfaction... and my love of Toyota/Lexus has only increased the more I've see how they put them together (compared the horrors of my wife's s--max)
