Just an update on this one.... They had a look at this, all sorted under warranty. They could not identify the fault, but replaced some parts and so far it is working perfectly.... on constantly (my wife has it on even in this heat, helps with her back).
They lent us the new style model ... little bit more space and slightly newer tech, but they seem to have gone for a BMW style dashboard, but with lots of creaking plastic.... just our opinion, but we think ours is much better build quality..
Top marks to Tunbridge Wells team ... best Lexus dealer we have used so far for both sales and service.

Yes, I have the procedure, just can't get a pair of pliars and my fingers to the hoses.... is it worth loosening the filter first? I didn't want to, as thought it would make it harder.
Yes, I will drain the sediment trap also... again appalling design, especially for a Japanese car.
-
I got the procedure from the lexus website... few quid and downloaded all of the procedure for basic servicing.
As for a pic. .. I have stolen this from some else's thread.... problem I am concerned about is reaching and removing the hoses... I want to know if there are any tricks to getting them off and on again !
-
I've finally got around to the second part of the service... fuel filter and read diff check.
wow!!!.... who the **** designed this ?!?! ... did they they get a British Leyland team in ???? Cannot think of a worse design for a serviceable part!
I have the official Lexus procedure, got the car nice and high on my ramps ..... I can see all the bits I need to touch ... just can't figure out how reach one of the bolts and worse, dealing with the two pipes... can only get finger tips to them.
With the fear I might not get the pipes back on, I thought it prudent to postpone this job and ask a few questions!
Has anyone managed this on their driveway?
Any tips??

We've just finished our 1000mile road trip holiday in our 2015 Rx450.... apart from a puncture, no significant problems... even managed 36mpg for one tank!
We did notice the heated seats seemed to behave differently.... the passenger seat warms up and stays warm.... the driver seat warms up then goes cold for a while before warming up again.
Just curious if this is expected or common behaviour.
-
Thanks, that's the detail I wanted to discover..... not worth it.
I know sometimes all you need is a couple of bits (like just adding the stalk to give cruise control on an avensis) .... but sounds like this isn't one of those cases!
...... I'll just have to ban my wife from driving my IS
-
I have a 2012 200d (Advance) and it has electric seats and mirrors, but does not have the memory option.
Has anyone investigated what the upgrade involves? .... ... is it just the switch panel in the door, or a few extra bits?
Just wondered if its worth a trip to a scrapyard to find a few bits....
-
Just been out for a good drive... we were getting just over 33mpg on mixes country roads ... and fuel gauge has barely moved, so assume all is well..... just have to leave the 'fun driving' to my time in my IS
-
Really good post, thanks Rayaans ..... will pass on your advice my wife ... but to be honest, asking her to drive in a 'relaxed manner' could start a 'robust discussion'.... I'll update later from the hospital!
-
can't see any problems... will keep an eye on it now we have filled it up. Reassured other people getting 30mpg... I get about 47mpg from my IS, so was expecting better from a hybrid. Maybe we need to learn to drive a hybrid differently from a diesel!
-
yes 30mile... we left the garage with 1/2 tank and had to fill up when we got home. seems to drive ok, and trip computer showing about 30mpg
-
Just added a White 2015 Rx 450h to our family (to join my IS200d) .... wife is a very happy girl!
However, surprised to get through 1/2 tank of fuel on the 30mile drive home, just normal driving...... appreciate it is a 3.5v6, but expected the hybrid to help a little!
Out of interest what sort of mpg do people get through normal use?
-
OK. .. the deed is done ... pickup a white 65 plate advance next week, doesn't have dvd, only single CD. Bit disapointed by the 2% discount, but managed to get them upto the same trade in price as webuyanycar, which was a bit harder than I expected.
So, soon to be a 2 Lexus household!
-
Yes, that's my point, what's for sale doesn't seem to match the published specs ... so seen a few advance edition models with 6cd changer, or maybe the dealer adverts are misleading. Salesmen we have spoken to don't seem so sure, contradicting themselves.
-
Been looking at a few now, seen all sorts of variations, like 6cd auto changers on 2015 models and others without ... either a inaccurate advert or just Lexus fitting bits at the end of the production run.
Anyway, we've seen talk of some models having a 'snow mode' .... does anyone know what this is and what models or options that comes with ?
Same for adaptive cruise control... see it in the old brochure, not seen an advert yet with it fitted .... is it standard?
-
thanks for your reply Rayaans .... it's a shame they have done away with the 6disc audio ... my 2012 IS200d has it (as well as the aux & bluetooth) and saves a lot of faffing around with CD's when driving
If it has the DVD option, does that mean it has the HDD option also?
-
OK, we're getting really close... but have a few questions we couldn't get confident answers from the dealer.
We're probably looking for a 2014/15 model (just before the change).
1# - is reversing camera standard base model (it isn't always listed in the adverts)
2# - does DVD + DAB only have single disc ? ( my 2012 IS has a 6disc CD changer)
3# - where in the range does advance fit?
-
Thanks for your reply, I've not had a great experience with my local Lexus dealer for servicing (or their warranty)...when you point out work that wasn't done, or done badly, they were very quick to point to the small print ... maybe just one dealer to avoid (note, they didn't recognize the gold membership discount either!). I ended up paying them over £400 for an oil change and map update, then doing the rest myself!
The IS200d is a normal car so servicing is straightforward ... but I appreciate the Rx is a bit more involved. Oil, filters, brakes should all be simple.
-
I assume you have tried scrapyards?... you can do an on-line query that goes out to loads of them
-
My wife loves my IS200d and is trying to choose between a Volvo XC60 and an RX450 (probably new'ish 3rd gen)
We had an Rx as a loan car once and loved it, but my main concern would be the servicing costs..... I normally do my own servicing, but not sure how far I can go with that with a hybrid, plus heard some stories about the gearbox and air suspension that might make home servicing tricky.
Anyone have any thoughts about servicing an Rx450?
Also, any recommendations on features to avoid and/or things we should be looking out for?

Lexus UK came back and confirmed they quoted the wrong part... they confirmed the correct part is 23390-0L030, at a cost of £21.12.
-
This is what they quoted......
Fuel Filter 23300-26101 RRP £140.88
Oil Filter 04152-YZZA3 RRP £11.88 -
yes, they quoted £140 for just the paper filter, I did query the price! This was the official Lexus UK parts store on eBay.. I asked them for a quote for basic service items... got the part number, will be buying the same part number from someone else!
Just curious if anyone had preferred parts as opposed to official Toyota ones
-
trouble is, Lexus quoted me £140 for the fuel filter...!

on our 2015 Rx450, we had the same experience... it was all sorted under warranty and now they are on a constant temperature (great news for my wife's dodgy back)
