    Hi,

    Id second all the other comments here. My MPG averages around 29-30, but can get 32 If I make a bit of an effort (gentle right foot, good anticipation) and thats with very few motorway miles.Do the usual stuff, such as keep on top off correct tyre pressures etc. and these figures are fairly easy to see.

    Auto box is fantastically smooth. A really brilliant bit of engineering. V6 makes a satisfying noise when revved, but its also a comfy cruiser.

    I had an e90 3 series saloon (previous 05-12 model) a few years back, a 325i straight six petrol manual.

    The main difference between the two in my experience is the interior material and build quality. Better on the Lexus. Ride was also harsh on the BMW due to run flat tyres being standard. The BMW has better cabin space. Im 6'2 and sit comfortably in the Lexus but the rear is cramped. Overall ownership experience I have to say goes to the Lexus. And the BM loses its special feeling quick as they are so common.

    What to look out for - not an exhaustive list but the spark plugs need changing at 60k miles service and its expensive (£500-£600 at main dealer), the brake calipers are prone to seizing up. Seach this forum for lots of good info.

    You dont say what age\mileage of car you looking at but BM diesels dont like big mileages. My neighbours have a 120d and 320d and both needed expensive turbo rebuilds before 80k miles. The 320d needed two come to think of it.

    Overall - Personally I wouldnt have a diesel 3 series auto over the IS250 auto.

    Thanks, that puts to rest any doubts I had, I will be going for the IS250. I am going to be doing mainly town driving so I dont think I will benefit too much by having a diesel.

    I also agree with what most people have said here. To me the BMW just looks too ordinary (maybe because it is so common) and dull/dated from inside whereas the IS250 just grabs your attention straight away.

    Also have to agree with the point on the favourable reviews BMW's tend to get. The main point that seems to get emphasised all the time is the handling of the BMW's when pushed to the limits. I am looking for a car to drive in my every day life not one that I will be using for rally driving. To me confort and economy are more important than how the car handles at high speeds around tight bends. The level of equipment you get with the IS250 is just miles better than what you get with a BMW 3 series. For example you will struggle to find one with electric seats whereas this comes pretty much as standard with the IS250.

    Yes the IS250 wouldnt live with a 3 series pushed to the limit on a track - but who cares? Its a fantastic car in the way we all use them. Look at Clarksons shocking RCF review on top gear - couple of drifts on an disused airfield and dismisses it as useless. On the limit handling is something some people want to to know about and makes for good slow-mo atmospheric tv pictures - but its not the basis on which 99% people actually buy or use cars.

  3. Ive never noticed with any car Ive had it being perceptibly faster with less fuel - they must be too a small degree - simple physics as outlined above.

    Quick bit of googling shows a litre of fuel = 0.7 kg. So from full to 10 litres remaining is only a drop in weight of 35kg which is very little difference to a car whose weight is around 1600k.g. with driver. I must make a difference, but I doubt you can actually percieve this. Placebo effect maybe?

I've had my IS 4 months now, and I've recently started to get bad muscle pain in my left leg\hip\groin Getting in and out of the IS is becoming very painful (and I'm thinking could be a cause) I'm 6'2 and I'm starting ti think what's caused this is the the small door aperture * - I have to contort a bit to get in and out. I'm wondering if any other tall drivers have had any issues with discomfort? Actually sat in the car I'm fine. Its getting bad enough now that Im thinking I might have to sell the car (very reluctantly)

    *My last 3 cars have been a 4x4, MPV and Ford Mondeo, all of which have had big doors, both in length and hight, compared to the IS.

  5. Thanks for the responses. This has now stopped happening on its own. Due the the intermittant nature Im thinking its temperature related. After a spell of temps around zero its now a few degrees above, and has not occurred for a few days. Ill keep an eye out for it, but to start, be intermittant then stop does roughly tie in with the coldest days, so Im going to monitor the behavoiur vs temp.

  6. I have been after some mat clips myself and was unsure about getting the correct ones on eBay. My IS had no mats when I bought it so I got some IS tailored mats from Halfords. I mentioned I was wanting some clips to secure the drivers mat to the dealer when I had my IS in for the fuel sensor recall yesterday. When I picked it up they had supplied and fitted for free. Might be worth trying a lexus fealer - they are £12 to buy I think.

    The service guy also commented that although not official Lexius mats they were a very good fit.

    I had tried a Toyota main delaer first assuming they probably had the same comonent for less, but they were not sure on which Lexus models the clips thay had would match - they only had reference to the matching Toyata models.

  7. There is the most unbelievably exhaustive thread on the PWR button on a US forum, I'll post a link if I can find it again.

    Having done an awful lot of reading on this, these are the conclusions in a nutshell:

    1. It doesnt change throttle response. Holding onto gears so you get higher revs is making the car more responsive.

    2. It doesnt seem to affect the MPG in like for like driving vs normal mode - in fact some claim it improves MPG

    3. Its quite good fun.

    personally dont really use it, just switch it on from time to time when I have a clear road :driving:

  8. FIXED!!! IS 200 newbie take a bow. Under the car below the drivers seat is a plastic panel. A few inches in fron the sill are 2 bolts holding this on. Both were loose. Ive tightened them both to finger tight (for now) and the noise has disappeared. As you look at the side of the car, one bolt is parallel to the front of the door handle, the other is a bit further back parallel to the front of the pillar (between front and rear doors)

    Bluenose 1940 - I have eaten fewer beans, this didn't fix the noise but the interior smells better ;-)

  9. Hi all

    I've got a very specific noise coming from the drivers seat, right hand side, low down, towards rear of seat. It only happens turning to the right, occaisionally under braking. It's a clicking noise and appears to be when weight goes to the right hand of the seat.

    I've wd40'd every metal bit I can see but to no avail. I can't find anything loose. I cannot recreate the noise with the car static at all, which means I'm struggling to find the source. It's not particularly loud but starting to really get on my nerves. It's leather electric seat.Any advice appreciated
