  1. Enquirer today and they are the original ones. However I also have a new CT as a courtesy car, so when I drive home tonight I should be able to compare.
  2. Well on dipped beam mine are utterly useless and quite terrifying. the contrast between dip and main is huge. Suspect these are the originals so will get a price when it goes in to the dealer tomorrow to be dried out and leak checked.
  3. Just to clear a few things up. I’ve owned the car for 90 days. Due to some ill health on my part, it’s not been used much and only covered 1200 miles in that time. The sticking brake occurred last weekend and was first noticed as a slight dragging on a half mile trip to a supermarket. It was taken back to the dealers as soon as they could fix to, which was last Wednesday. So I collected the car Friday. Therefore I’ve had the car two days since the repair. Me personally, I would not have put that wheel back on until cleaned on the inside. What they do is up to them provided the repairs are sound and does not cause any further damage or degradation. I am looking at the car now and I see no way a cleaner can access the inside of the wheel without removing it. Which he won’t. So that’s the technicians job. What really concerned me was the over 1 inch of water around the battery. If, as Rayaans said, these do not leak, how did that get there? The dealer has previously admitted problems with the valeter, soaking cars, so one would expect them to keep an eye on the new one for a few months. If that much water penetrates the electrics or goes under the carpets, I’ll have a huge job getting it dry. Most of it is at the moment, the dampness is mainly confined to the boot, but there is a question to answer.
  4. I’d normally not be concerned if the valeter hadn’t done a good job, but this time the technician put a contaminated wheel back on, then relied on the valeter to do it. I have no idea if he expected him to take a wheel off to clean it but that’s what was required. Given what had happened I think it should have been down to be inspected after the valeter. I only drove the 15 miles to Stockport on the sticking caliper at low speed on the local roads, previously it had had very little use. The inside hasn’t been cleaned at all and I wouldn’t expect it. I lost this morning trying to put it right, and think they should do the job, so for now I have emailed the head of Aftersales.
  5. Yes, this is with Lexus Stockport. Not impressed at all and have just spent some time writing to their Aftersales Manager with some suggestions for a resolution. I’ve had the car for 90 days so I don’t think I can reject. What I want is it sorting and with the water ingress, if it’s not bone dry in there, I’ll make sure they fix it or come up with an alternative plan.
  6. Sometimes it really hard to love a Lexus. Collected the car yesterday and only managed to have a really good look over it when I got home. Although the car had been ‘cleaned’ this didn’t extend to removing the baked on brake /caliper residue that was all over the front wheel, passenger door and back along the car. I can’t quite believe that the technician had actually put the wheel back on in that state. If I hadn’t needed the car urgently yesterday I would have taken it back and left it. So as it’s a 45 minute drive each way I decided to try and shift it myself. After a morning of of cleaning, nothing had shifted it. It’s going to need the wheel removing and some heavy duty acid wheel cleaner on it. As for the bodywork, it was in the door trim, handles rear wheel, the dust had got everywhere. Shifted a lot with tar remover, but even wonderwheels didn’t touch the wheel. Phoned the dealer to give them some feedback who offered to ‘give it a clean’ next time I’m passing! How the h@ll does a mechanic, who has just fitted clean new caliper, discs and pads, then put back on a wheel thick with baked on grit? To ice the cake, I decided as I was cleaning the car, to clean the boot properly. Yes I am the proud owner of a Lexus swimming pool. At least one inch of water was swimming round the battery. When I bought the car the boot was wet, the speaker grill stained and the jack slightly rusty, all of which they put down to their now dismissed vaulter who had been washing the cars with the boot open! They dried it and assured me it wasn’t a problem. So either I have a soaked battery because of the usual leak issues which I have read up on, and have to find that problem, or more hopefully whoever half washed the car this time again at the dealers was careless and got the boot wet. I really don’t want to go back to the dealers, and would rather get the car privately detailed so I know all these things are right, but I feel they should put some of this right at least. Any thoughts?
  7. That’s a real relief and one that will have me pricing up a warranty next year when this first 12 months expires.
  8. Turns out it was a hole in the side of the piston. This then seized and wrecked the caliper. Dealer is replacing all this as well as pads and disc. Have to say I’ve had a few corroded pistons over the years, but even with pitting or corrosion they simply become stiff, I’ve never had an actual hole!
  9. It’s not just Lexus, Porsche once told me they hadn’t stamped my service book after a service and some work, because they couldn’t find it in the car. As it was in the holder under the steering wheel I wasn’t that impressed. I was even less impressed when I had two inches of water in the car and fried electronics, because the roof latch which they had replaced let water in. They hadn’t thought to pour some water over it after replacing it, to leak test it. £2500 bill later paid for by the dealer and a complete new interior. Glad they hadn’t done anything life threatening like work on the brakes or engine. God help us in the hands of these people. Lexus have no excuse. If such a small, well known issue causes such expensive problems, there should be an addendum to the service schedule. I shall be asking to look at the previous service sheets for the car when I go back in. It’s called preventative maintenance and I bet they didn’t do it. Now it’s going to cost them what, about £1000 in parts, labour etc.
  10. I’m certainly going to ask when I collect it. I pointed out that I wouldn’t expect it to seize so soon after a service, but that was without knowing they didn’t bother greasing the pins! Surely if it is a known issue, they should do it?
  11. well turns out the front nearside caliper has bound on. new caliper pads and disc apparently. all under warranty. no idea yet as to why this should happen to a car that was serviced a little over 8 weeks ago and has only done 1200 miles in that time. any ideas?
  12. Just found out that the Nexens on the front were put on in 2014 and have done 30000 miles. Pretty sure that’s why there’s no grip. Measured the tread all round and there’s actually 4 mm on each tyre, looks less on the Nexens, so a quick glance can be deceiving.
  13. I’ll find out tomorrow, it’s going in to the dealers.
  14. Had another look this afternoon and the front wheels are covered in a thick red dust. Black dust only on the rears. No idea what this means but somethings not right. Shame I couldn’t get any answer from Lexus Stockport today after 4 goes and a message!
  15. It is outside for now, but I tried the heavy braking yesterday and it didn’t help.
  16. It’s very likely ud if it is and doesn’t sound great! It is parked outside and I thave ied the heavy braking yesterday, didn’t help.
  17. Thanks for the advice. I’ll give it back to them to sort, as I’ve done barely 800 miles since I picked it up. Hopefully they should do it all under warranty. I’d be disappointed if they asked for anything or said the pads/discs suddenly needed doing. Will start using the foot brake as well.
  18. Only bought it two months ago from the Lexus dealer, so I hope not, barely done 400 miles! If it’s a case of replacing the slide pins and checking the pads/ disc edge for corrosion, I wonder if my local Toyota dealer would be up for doing it cheaply? Would save the slog into Lexus Stockport but is it something they could do?
  19. Loud metallic rasping noises from the brakes on my RX450. It seems to be both front and back from what we can tell. It can be heard at low speed, driving slowly out of the drive and down my street, it isn’t really a noise I want to hear from a Lexus! Don’t think the discs are warped or it would have come up in the recent MOT. There’s no judder at all on hard or soft braking. Seems to go at higher speed. Always park with the parking brake off whenever possible and at home when left for a few days. I did have a slight problem on my old IS250 but nothing like this. If anything needs greasing, easing or releasing, can someone point me to a picture or manual extract so I can do the work?
  20. Hi. Well I do about 6-8000 a year. That’s come down a lot and I also have a classic car which I use a lot in the summer, so that has reduced the Lexus miles. I generally make two trips a year to Austria, summer and winter, hence the all year tyre being a money saver if I can go that way. It also saves on storage space as I age two sets for the wife’s car already! I’ll check the Wintracs out as well. I actually have Vredesteins on my classic, which does 3-4K a year, of fast driving and they are a super tyre in my opinion. Need up as they were the only ones I could get in 15” but have done over 12k and barely look worn. Will be needing snow chains too but not until the end of next year.
  21. Yes, I’m now looking into getting the year round M + S marked tyres as I travel out to Austria in the winter and don’t want to have two sets. Cross climates should be a good deal if they drive ok in the summer.
  22. Thanks for the feedback. I certainly appreciate the weight difference, it takes a bit more stopping for sure. I'm probably going to look at all year tyres soon but for now might just replace the Nexen.
  23. When I bought the car six weeks ago, I asked the Lexus dealer about the tyres on it as I'd never heard of them and wanted to negotiate some discount for replacing them. Bearing in mind this is the main dealer. The car had a pair of Bridgestone Dueler H/L 33's on the back, and a newish set of Nexen N8000's on the front, which I was a bit suspicious of. Dealer principal assured me that these were a 'Lexus Approved Tyre', good quality etc and that they had fitted them for the previous owner. Nothing to worry about etc. Drove the car for the last few weeks in the dry with no apparent issues. Went into work this morning on a wet country lane, doing about 15-20 winding along in a queue, car in front stopped suddenly and mine didn't! Absolutely no grip from these at all, T/C scrabbling to try and stop. In the end the back of her car stopped me at about 5mph! Not the best way to start the day. So now I get to have a bumper replaced and my first fault accident in over 20 years! Has anyone come across these tyes before? I can't find anything about them on the Lexus site and feel a bit stupid for not changing them myself right away. Are the Bridgestone Dueler's a good replacement, ? Otherwise have read the other threads, I'll go for the Michelin Latitudes.
  24. I've searched the old posts and need something a bit up to date. Previously had a Nextbase 512 in the IS250 I had, which was utterly useless, froze all the time and flattened the battery. I'm looking for a reliable camera, that can be hardwired into the RX. Must be a good basic camera most importantly - I saw two traffic accidents today in the space of 30 minutes. That was only driving to the tip and back! Also I need a good parking mode, one where the camera goes into it automatically. Been recommended the Thinkware F100 pack as a front and rear system, parking mode has options to record via motion/G sensor or in 1 sec TimeLapse for 3-4 hours, which sounds quite good and should protect against a lot of carpark damage. Has anyone any experience of these?
