Car Multi-function Screen Stuck "checking Usb Device.. Wait"

Thanks for the reply Colin but I tried that as well. As I have had no other suggestions I guess this a software problem unique to my car. -
Can somebody please help me ... Today my car screen (for no apparent reason) is stuck with the message "Checking Usb Device.. Wait". Please see attachment. I have unsuccessfully tried absolutey everything to clear the message or even move to another mode i.e. radio. I have tried to turn the engine off and then back on, remove the USB and restart engine (etc) but nothing seems to work. Has anybody experienced this problem or does anybody have a solution?
