220D For 250?
toffee_pie replied to claytow's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
well, it depends in what you are driving, an auto in a run of the mill 4 door saloon will most likely be crap. Lexus is250 is from what I have heard better in auto but its probably borderline in terms of cars which would definitely need an auto, in comparison with a LS range where no one would buy a manual. Same for a Honda Legend, no one would drive that barge in a manual, it all depends on the car itself. Lexus did not crown themselves in glory with the mechanics of the manual box in the is250 but I am used to it now and don't actually see anything wrong with it, its certainly fast enough for me. Any of the cars I drove up to now would not warrant an auto box, they were not worthy of one. *Edit, Honda Accord 8th gen not meant to be anything special too in a Auto, Manual is what you should get on that. -
hope its fixed for good.......!

220D For 250?

looks good, white can be a dog to keep clean, worth keeping in mind. looks pricey enough for a 08 if you are doing a cash deal you should get a bit off that price. I got a manual, its not too bad at all. I drove manuals all my life. You get used to them. -
will cheap-o readers do a full diag scan? i shouldn't think so. I know the cheap ones would not read all the codes on the Honda Accord. You need to find a semi decent garage who can scan the car for errors, any decent mechanic should have a professional scanner to read codes on modern cars (most of these cost quite a bit).

Just Test Drove A Isf
toffee_pie replied to Number86's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
I am all for an IS-F also, seriously, with the specification of the C63 you would expect it to be quite a bit better than a IS-F, plus the Lexus is going to be far more reliable down the line. I do not buy into these people swayed by the general population and brainwashed into German cars, apple i phones etc (own a galaxy note 4 which is about a billion times better than a iphone 6, but that's another thing). In summary i usually buck the trend and go against the grain. Lexus IS-F is a fine car, was in Andys one, economy is pretty incredible too considering its a 5 litre. -
John, have you physically disconnected both mirrors, with a control box in place? i would say not, but it would be a way to isolate the mirrors.

re program the central locking? i would start from basics, something is causing that control box to blow up, its connected to the drivers door it seems, you already replaced the loom and the box so its not either of them. what else is there, even if you want to get this fixed you need another control box, not knowing if you can fix it or not, can you get one from a breakers yard? i would take off the loom from the passengers side too and see if that has any effect.

I told you, wasting time going to lexus, all they will do is swap out parts, (at your expense) and hope it works, they wont debug or find the root cause, they have bigger fish to fry than dealing with your car, truth be told. This does look like a short circuit for sure, is your key ok? i mean when you lock and unlock are you sure thats all it does? maybe the whole signals are gone haywire. Can you get a multimeter can check for continuity/shorts across the points mentioned previously on Mikes schematic, Its not easy to do but this its the predicament you are in, either get someone else to do it or do yourself. I would definitely stop taking this car to lexus, look for some local garage and explain the fault, usually they can barter a decent price.

this problem is fixed? if the milage is that low, its surprising. :) I would be gutted to scrap a car like that with such low miles.

I think that car has reached an untimely death, or is very close to. I would be weary of spending anymore money on it, its 9 years old., can you write that off with insurance?

I have a price of £100 from a guy here in Southampton, same guy polished my car last year. Looks a good enough price, he said it looks like a trolley or a bike scraped against it, looks about the height of a trolley too. I was at sainsburys, so....... -
If it was my car i would not take it to lexus, unless you got very deep pockets or bargain a good deal with them. of course i hope he gets a good outcome, im just voicing my own thoughts.
