  1. its pretty cheap for Lexus, but it would be even cheaper if it was not flushed in the first place Glad your motor is back running as it could have been very costly indeed!
  2. why did you buy a car with a error code? do you know how much transmission's cost? sorry to be abrupt but you really should not buy a used car with such a malfunction, or any even. You might get lucky and have the error correct itself with a fluid change or then again you might be very unlucky and need a new transmission. Transmission flushes are totally unnecessary - Japanese cars like Lexus are precision engineered - they don't need 'flushes' what they do need is correct oil changes. That is all - and anyone who says its lifetime fluid is talking BS, just change it. Totally unrelated but the OEM gearbox on my Subaru costs around 12K euro, these things are not to be messed with. When you flush the transmission you may inadvertently clog delicate solenoids with gunk and screw up the entire system, its totally unnecessary and just snake oil - another money spinner for garages
  3. These guys are terrific - my rear calliper was seized on the Subaru and got one on this site - bargain price compared to the OEM cost also https://brakeparts.co.uk/shop/Lexus/Is220/05-12/Is220 Gse20 2.2 Diesel/Rear - Brake Calipers and Wheel Cylinders/BCA5034
  4. now I see why they charge £25 or whatever crazy figure it is for a pint in Norway.😐
  5. Don't take a 2006 IS220D to a Lexus dealer FFS unless you like throwing money away, a caliper replacement is bread and butter for any mechanic, I am not a mechanic but could probably do it had I some work bench since I have already done all fluids, coolant and tricky spark plugs on my Subaru, all 6 of them. I am an Electronic Engineer however coolant, oil, PS fluid, spark plugs etc are all pretty easy so I suggest you invest in some good tools and do it yourself and you know for sure the parts are actually fitted, good quality ones at that. For brakes and any serious safety critical work its probably wise to get a mechanic Yes, this is very true, if the pistons are seized its new caliper time - pins can be regreased and fixed up
  6. I had a IS250 and did put on a K&N intake, nice extra noise but zero extra performance - I sold the Lexus due to the lack of performance and bought a CL55 AMG with 500 horses - but that turned out to be a lemon so I bought an AWD Subaru SpecB a month later which outperforms the Merc on all road conditions and reliability and sounds amazing to boot. If you want to stick to Lexus get a IS-F its an awesome car itself and if my Subaru was not so reliable and lasting me over 5 years I would probably have got one of those
  7. Indeed, buy a new battery. Tanya is a great source
  8. Seized calipers on a 2006 car = new caliper, my rear caliper seized on my Subaru and I replaced with a new one. For the time and effort you go to getting your old one working again to find it will seized again in the future you are better off with a new one. School of hard knocks and all that...
  9. change oil frequently, no need to waste money on snake oil. I would change oil on a high miler every 5k miles, use good quality fully synthetic oil. An oil change is easy on the wallet, a replacement engine not so easy
  10. I am looking at a XFR as a potential purchase, they seem to have gone completely under the radar
  11. Modern BMWs are pants but kudos to the marketing gurus for getting so many cars out to punters - anyone can lease them out now they are all over the place and with grills exponentially increasing in size. Quality certainly has taken a hit. The Inline 6 was a great engine, the only BMW I would get would be with one of them engines, robust and reliable. 2 words than cannot be used on modern BMWs
  12. erm not really no. 😀 I answered the OPs question so just doing my bit for the community is all.
  13. I find most of the idiots seem to be driving POS cars - diesels in a lot of cases like the 118d in the news recently for the wrong reasons People driving high end BMWs with 300bhp+ seem to drive more reasonable in my experience, they don't really have anything to prove as they have ample power under the bonnet they just don't act like morons about it
  14. German cars is done to the death on many forums, the fact of the matter is they are putting profit before quality - BMW are churning out about 40 types of cars now it seems everything from 1 series to 8 series and M/////Power variants and everything in-between with grills exponentially increasing in size, so quality control has nose dived big time but profits are up and that is all they care about at the end of the day. BMWs also seem to be driven by morons, a recent tragic news incident just another episode I wouldn't touch a BMW with a barge pole, give me a 300k mile LS460 it will get me to Mongolia in comfort without breaking down, a BMW wont I would take a ISF over any performance BMW also, I know it wont be draining my bank balance
  15. A F Sport has a firmer ride due to the suspension setup, the clue is in the name. My Subaru has Bilstein struts and my wife hates it but I drive it not her - the OP certainly wont like it but would like a S-EL as its a far more comfy ride
  16. I had a IS250 prior to my Subaru, I sold it because it was too good - too comfortable and not very engaging to drive so on that basis it should work just fine for the OP BMWs are money pits, don't get one. Lexus are galaxies ahead of them for build and reliability quality
  17. Worth contacting these guys, I have visited many battery manufacturing plants in China - they make very good batteries and very bad ones so you due need to exercise caution but its certainly worth exploring. That or spend thousands to Lexus https://ennocar.com/#product
  18. Right, well if thats the case i would just get a knock off pack from China tbh - connecting up the full pack to a load and discharging that etc wont work as you need to isolate the cells within the pack itself.
  19. This load can discharge cells -- this is the sort of way i would approach this https://www.banggood.com/ET5411-Programmable-Professional-Battery-Tester-DC-Electronic-Load-Battery-Capacity-Tester-400W-500V15A-RS485232-High-Precision-p-1613466.html?gmcCountry=GB&currency=GBP&createTmp=1&utm_source=googleshopping&utm_medium=cpc_bgs&utm_content=lijing&utm_campaign=ssc-gb-100-all-0819&cur_warehouse=CN A charger here - should be able to deal with the charging side https://www.wish.com/product/5e5923e717e8927fb2923a18?hide_login_modal=true&from_ad=goog_shopping&_display_country_code=GB&_force_currency_code=GBP&pid=googleadwords_int&c={campaignId}&ad_cid=5e5923e717e8927fb2923a18&ad_cc=GB&ad_curr=GBP&ad_price=22.00&campaign_id=6493229882&gclid=CjwKCAjw34n5BRA9EiwA2u9k3xkXDkhTkCS0zaV5N9RZwIuqeY3OObynDSLn4iYovdRvTrE2QClDkxoCuF8QAvD_BwE&share=web
  20. You need more advanced ways to balance cells, that wont quite cut it how many cells are in this pack? this is what i would do 1. strip out EVERY cell, number them all 2. Measure Voltage - any dead ones with low voltage - Chuck them out and replace 3. This is where it gets hard - to cell balance you are just getting them all the same capacity and basically working in harmony with each other, a weak cell will degrade others - eventually they will all peter out because of a single bad one 4. You need to charge them up and discharge them many times - ideally 3 or 4 but twice should do for the moment. 5. Get one of these 6. Charge up the cells, taking not of how much energy is put into it 7. Discharge, again noting the energy displaced. rinse and repeat - twice 8. Reassemble You need to be creative in how to charge them up - get a nicad charger that tells you the energy perhaps... likewise with discharging - you need to monitor the energy going in and out. its not easy but its possible for much less than what Lexus would charge.
  21. I am an Electronic Engineer and have worked on battery products and used expensive Maccor battery equipment before. So, Malcolm do not pay Lexus this amount of money. 1. share photos of the batteries you need - the more info you provide the more help you can get 2. cell balancing is crucial, without this any battery fix is useless. Maccor kit can do this quite easy but there are other ways to do this without spending 40k on test equipment. all you need is some load to discharge cells and a way to charge them. It may take some time but its possible - what are these individual cells? manufacturer, type? http://www.lithiumlifepo4battery.com/sale-11542621-lexus-gs450h-hybrid-car-battery-288v-hybrid-vehicles-type-hev-ima-6500mah-capacity.html I found this https://himaxelectronics.com/product-item/nimh14-4v-repalcement-hybrid-car-battery/# I would try replace the dud cells but it maybe easier to get an entire pack if you have no time, expertise or patience
  22. or try these, its not a huge job as long as you know what you are doing https://www.cartronics.co.uk/case-studies/Lexus-IS250-repair-touch-screenpanel
  23. My Lexus is long gone, have one of these now for over 2 years :p https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfVkKYncxsE Dont pay 2,300 to anyone to fix that, I did mine myself - you need a new display and replace that with the broken one, job done. its about 3 /4 hours work not sure. I am in Southampton and have some free time over the next 2 weeks if you want me to help, just order a new display
