Screen black after battery change

Seems you are ok with paying 500 quid to get a battery replaced. check google.com - lots of Lexus models appear, not just 13+ models -

Not sure, seems to be common amongst lots of different owners? That's still too much - if its a design flaw and it looks like it to me, then the owner should pay £0.00 -

Like I have previously said, there clearly is a serious flaw with Lexus cars, there should probably be a sticky about replacing batteries but that would not reflect well on the brand itself. I am an Electronic Engineer myself so have a good understanding of this, Lexus seem content to sweep everything under the rug and ignore everything it seems which is poor. Replacing a battery in any car should not damage your entire navigation unit. -

seriously f****d up navigation design from Lexus Should be a sticky about this and replacing batteries -

I had this problem, it was common on the IS250 navi unit - Its so long ago I forget the full drill but I opened up my unit and replaced some circuit board module and it worked again - going back a while, I think its the ribbon connector or something is flakey -

read my last comment on this, as the previous poster said Lexus certainly wont tell you how to repair this. You will not be able to do much yourself however there are a few tell-tale signs. 1. Smell it... most repair shops, Electronic gurus smell it, burnt components have a distinct smell 2. The above may lead to diodes or components fried Now, if the above is no success its pretty difficult, ideally what I would do is power the bugger up and see what is going on - are the power rails working? you will be getting 12V into the unit and it will be chopped down to 5V or 3V3 volts for the Microcontroller - are all the voltage rails present.. if individual components are damaged its an easy enough for me if the parts can be identified from markings What I think happened is a transient event damaged logic but diodes and specifically TVS diodes should be placed around the input of the supply line to limit this damage, if no diodes are used well that is not a very robust design. If logic is damaged such as the Microcontroller it would explain why its not working and in this case probably not repairable, even if you found a replacement Microcontroller - I have the skills to replace all these SMD parts at work - but it needs to be coded and that I cannot do -
I would not tolerate this absolute nonsense, England is gone to the dogs at the moment - should these water canons fail I will gladly reverse my two tail pipes into the faces of these idiots and give them an ear full of 286g/km of a 6 cylinder petrol engine until they pass out

was worried about what type of Gin you could get for 10 litres at 9 pound.. not sure I would fancy it!
-
big fuel tanks = big costs, I did put in over £100 a few times into my Subaru also - years ago when aviation fuel was high at one stage too
-
gin powered aviation fuel -- why have I not thought of this

Petrol fill up on the 26th for me - 55.1 Litres @ 1.579Litre - so almost £90 for E5 Shell One of my most expensive fills for a number of years and that was not even a full tank. When will it end... The government roll out of E10 was really a ploy to eradicate petrol for good I think... I am looking at some novel fuel now, Prince Charles said he uses cheese and crap on his Aston Martin, I have some nice mature cheddar here and some red wine - what could go wrong

well UK Legacy - a Subaru forum is 'sponsored' if that is the word, by Chris Knott-- they are just as bad, they were also a former customer of mine. Its just the way car insurance goes, its ridiculous and they do not respect people with a good driving history and NCB record. My current insurer, I will not name looks to be bucking the trend and have had decent quotes on my Subaru which is modified for the last few years so I have not left them.

if there is a hardware fault it wont make a difference if the radio is on or off - I suspect there is some underlying issue here - TVS diodes absorb voltage spikes, the question is do they have them fitted to the amp and navi unit - if they don't its like a wtf question. I am developing something for my company now and fitting these to the dc input of anything is a mandatory thing, not only to prevent units getting damaged but to aid them passing EMC compliance and stuff. I wouldn't pay £4k but would send a stern letter (via a solicitor if needed) as to why a simple battery change caused this to occur and do Lexus have some problems with the units fitted to the cars and if so why are they asking customers to stump up thousands for replacement parts -

Do you have the dead unit still? if so take a hi res photo of the PCB and post up here if you can -

You could save 150 pounds by connecting the new battery in parallel with the old one thereby not disconnecting any power -

That is exactly what manufactures want - chuck out broken things with a part that costs 50 pence the culprit and lets charge the customer for the entire unit - same with the fancy modern LED headlights than can do moves that would be a killer in a nightclub - dead unit - sorry sir that is 3 thousand pounds People still 'fix' things you just need to find them - then send the bill to Lexus HQ and see what they say - even to the HQ in Japan at that -

I would have looked at it - poor on Lexus - looks like a shoddy design and I would be weary of replacing a battery on any modern Lexus -

My engineering brain is saying three things about this Battery changes can cause multiple issues, its not uncommon on modern cars but most should be easily solvable by either a main dealer or if lucky a diag scanner - not a difficult fix - to reset modules or such Now if the above does not work I am thinking its a s/w bug or issue that is freezing up the unit but then again Lexus scanners can read the ECU from this navigation and should be able to reset it - if they cant its their problem - you should not be in a position where you need to replace the entire thing - or amplifier or whatever The next thing is damaged hardware, now there will or should have safety features in place to mitigate voltage surges such as TVS diodes and fuses /capacitors -- these could possibly be damaged but not difficult to diagnose or repair, certainly not thousands of pounds - if there is no safety features in place then its entirely possibly the brains of the unit are fried and that is down to a poor design itself. The reason the main fuse is not damaged is voltage surges happen in milli seconds and fuses themselves do not react quick enough - however a TVS diode will. -
Scandalous, just take your custom elsewhere

I am an EE and am a bit concerned from these reports, in no way should flat batteries or a battery replacement fubar you navigation or amp - period looks like a serious flaw going on here and Lexus need to admit it, getting used parts as a fraction of the OEM cost is not how one should be dealing with these issues I would like to see these failed units and see what is going on - It is rather surprising for Lexus tbh as I really rate these vehicles but this doesn't sit quite well with me, and no way on earth would I fork out thousands for a fix Modern cars can be very finicky on battery replacements and starting a car with booster leads is usually a no-no, you need a portable battery pack. And even with that its not uncommon to get an array of Christmas lights afterwards than can usually be reset with some scanners or diagnostic equipment but having actual navigation systems and amplifiers fried is pretty unlikely unless there is some underlying flaw going on.
