  1. They are sold as a 'premium' car but most people, certainly those with knowledge know that is far from the case. Business is all about making money, its how you go about it however.
  2. I agree on the Tesla fast charge network, its probably the best thing about the cars. I quoted you as you were talking about the negatives on EVs, I just added another (lack of heaters in winter -- but wait, you can get a winter heater pack! - powered by batteries I guess...😍)
  3. Are you buying EVs for environmental reasons or purely for lower TCO over a combustion car? I would never get a EV as I dont have patience to faff around with one, I could get one if I wanted but they dont fit my charqacter. My local Tesco is one of the largest in the land and they have no EV chargers as far as I know. If I was driving on a long road trip I would be forever worried about my speed, will I run out of juice, there are several cars in front of me here can I overtake them? where is the next charge point and will it even work - if it does do I need to book and hotel stay or drink 50 cups of coffee and pass out while waiting for it to charge. They have no redeeming driving characteristics either, which is nil points for me too, I want a car that I actually look forward to driving each day and is relatively quick - EVs are quick, or can be for about 10 seconds on acceleraton but try maintaining that speed or doing overtakes and your range will plummet - I can drive a constant 70mph on my Subaru and get around 350-400 on a tank, that is just pressing on and not dwadling - if you tried that in a EV you would need to book a hotel room for the night. If I was living in a urban environmment with plenty access to EV charge points I probably would consider one but it would be on my terms, not because I am doing my bit for saving the planet or listening to 'experts'.
  4. You cant warm your cojones either in the winter with a EV- as per my previous post there is nothing wrong with a EV itself, but the Government's demand that everyone get one is what is wrong - very wrong. We are told all the good stuff about EVs but no one is telling us the bad news and if they were as good as the manufacturers make out Scotty Kilmer would be reviewing EVs on his channel for the last year non stop - but he has not got one. Any Tesla is not able to compete with a high end Lexus for build quality and finish, heck even a IS250. They cost 30K dollars to make and are sold for three times that - hence the money Musk is earning
  5. EVs have their place in society, but not at the way I am seeing it -- ie forced to purchase one to save the planet - which is absolute bull It will be a bleak future for motorists I was attending a webinar a while back about Electronics and EMC and all that stuff but the chap presenting who was some highly experienced bod from the USA was doing some nice comparisons to get across the point he was making - in one situation he referred to manual transmission and autos -- what has that got to do with EMC and Electronics? well he was discussing the 'wizards' so popular now in EDA tools that allow you to do things .. basically, anything really autonomously, and his point was that people are using these wizard shortcuts without fully even understand what it is they are doing. Now the transmission comparison comes into play – if you drive a mechanical box you are fully aware of the consequences of your actions and what it is you are doing. Cars of the future will be so fully loaded with tech and rubbish no one will have any idea of what’s going on half the time, nor will they be in control of the car itself -- well that is perfect as that’s what the government want.
  6. My bad, its 85% - since it was installed in March 2021 - so 15% gone in 12 months so, how is your BMW i3 going with its 100% battery? You dont have a clue about batteries, so trying to argue your case will be a hard sell
  7. @Boxbrownie Laughing because you haven't a clue about batteries, makes sense that, how's your i3 with its 100 percent battery? 👌
  8. If you have the patience of a saint and can handle anxiety get a EV. I've absolutely no time for faffing with electric vehicles and would sooner use a reliable 6 or 8 cylinder Petrol car any day of the week.
  9. Batteries degrade, it's not up for debate. I would trust testing batteries with hardware rather than built in software. Remember the diesel gate... The correct way to assess a battery performance is to do several charge discharge event's and repeat at different conditions and see how much cell resistance has increased, compare with the OEM specifications. I have used Maccor equipment which is what I would use for such tests. Furthermore when batteries reach 60 or 70 percent capacity they are at the end of the road and no longer hold charge very well, the first 30 percent will hold charge for quite a while but it's downhill from there on.
  10. Sorry was directed to the previous post above...!
  11. They are not fine, the previous guys i3 with its 100 percent charge capacity Like what Scotty said, give me your vehicle's. I can check capacity, we have all the gear at work. My bet is 1000 pounds they are no where near full charge capacity, who is in or out? Heck let's make it 2000 pounds. I'll guess nobody, just as no manufacturers in the USA gave Scotty a car for him to critique
  12. What constitutes abusing an EV? Can you drive over 50mph and overtake traffic? Do you need to drive moderately all the time? Do you need a pill box telling you the times to charge it up to keep the batteries in prime condition.
  13. How is this heat pump system operated, Flatulence?
  14. It's impossible to have the same capacity as when it rolled out of the showroom, and you know nothing about cell balancing So like I said previously, you always get people jabbing on about tin foil hats when they know absolutely nothing Can I put in a smiley, ok then 🤣
  15. EVs have lot's of electronic bits, you need to step back and put your feet into the people who designed them and wrote software for them. It's not nice and I had a news article saying today that EVs are less reliable than combustion engines, does that surprise me? No. My 2008 3 litre Subaru on 136k miles had 2 boot joints and a rear caliper replacement, outside of fluid changes, no EV will be that reliable ever and they will be horrible to drive, unless you want to live a life of anxiety. Batteries are complex, lithium plating is a constant worry, each cell needs to be individually balanced, a weak one can collapse the entire pack. There's stuff going on here that most people haven't a clue about. I do however as I have developed commercial products with Texas Instruments ICs used for cell balancing and so forth. You need to talk to knowledgeable people. Mainstream media and governments are only spreading the gospel that they are required to save the planet.. which is tosh
  16. And you know it's five percent how exactly? Seems far etched for five years. Batteries are more complex than most people realise, a few weak cells will write off an entire battery pack, probably writing off the car in the process.
  17. You always get these 'experts' sticking their nose in jabbing on about conspiracy theories and tin foil hats. They don't have any understanding whatsoever about batteries.
  18. Touche, there is a reason not one EV manufacturer have given Scotty Kilmer a vehicle to try out, they know they would get hammered. You can't fool that chap, unlike others.
  19. Most reputable companies give private health care, if this is what you mean. But yes, it's apple's and oranges compared to free health care which itself is good for what you get but no competition to a private scheme
  20. I understand more about batteries than you ever do outside of what you get on Google. You never heard of lithium plating, I don't need Google to tell me You are just another person spaced out from government propaganda
  21. I suggest you speak to an electronic engineer, I've worked on batteries, have done regulatory compliance and all that with them. You need to open your eyes a bit. You probably know next to nothing about how a battery works or how many are installed in EVs or how much cobalt will need mining for billions of batteries to power the vehicles in the future. Fossil fuels will charge most anyway so ..ugh
  22. They are all corrupt, it's a well known fact but they try hide as much as possible their ill doings. Hancock wasted 11 million on track and trace, Its the tip of the iceberg. Then you have Boris having parties each weekday or weekend during lockdown. My local Tory has been seen canvassing in Southend and Birmingham when he is based in South Gloucestershire. The corruption is rife, down to and including the brainwashing to get Electric vehicles and new boilers that are expensive and inefficient. Diesel was great too they said..
  23. The minute you drive a EV out of its show room it loses full charge capacity. My HP omen had a new laptop battery put in just over a year ago, it's currently at around 75% of full charge capacity. If you drove a EV hard it's capacity would plummet, also you can't fast charge the cars in winter or risk lithium plating and severe reduction in capacity and indeed may need extra layers of clothing to keep your private parts warm as climate control is not dependent on the combustion engine anymore, it's dependent on batteries.
  24. Yeah, its the brainwashing doing the harm - Politicians never have the taxpayer in mind, ever. They are all lies and bull. I am quite worried actually about the future that awaits us
  25. Scotty Kilmer, he of waving hands fame is quite the knowledgeable chap - cant fool him He asked EV manufacturers to give me your goods - how good are your cars let me find out and I will test them in all road conditions. No one got back to him - says as much as you need to know and doesnt surprise me one bit
